Mike is seven years old now and begins(开始) to go to school. His father is a driver and takes him to school in his car. Mike studies very hard(努力地) and all his teachers like him very  much.
   One day, Miss White teaches the students to count from one to ten. Mike can count them. Miss White is happy and asks him, “How many people(人) are there(有) in your family, Mike?”

    Liu Mingxiao, 13, is a pretty and smart girl. She comes top in her class. But many students try to stay away from her because her mother has AIDS(艾滋病). Liu's father has died of AIDS. But Liu didn't get it.

    AIDS means fear(惧怕)for most people. “Nobody wants to play games with me. They call me bad names behind my back. Even a teacher who used to like me turns her back on me now. It makes me feel sad.” said Liu.

    Liu's mother didn't know what happened to her daughter until one day Liu came back home with her nose bleeding(流血的)，“ She fought with a boy who said something bad about her father.” said Liu's mother. “My heart really hurts. My daughter did nothing wrong!”

    For many of these children, the biggest problem they now face is how other people look at them. Many of them have to drop out of school(辍学)because they can no longer stand others' indifference(冷漠).

    “People are afraid of AIDS because they know little about it,” said Wang Chongrun, head of a group to help children living with AIDS. Wang went to the villages and gave lessons about AIDS to the people there.

    “Many of these children are just as healthy as others,” Wang said.

    “Even if they have AIDS, it's still safe to eat and play with them. They need our love and understanding. A friendly smile means a lot to them!”

One day, a father is doing some work when his son comes and asks,"Dad, can I ask you a question? How much do you make an hour?"

His father gets a bit bored and answers,"Why do you ask such a thing?" The boy says, "I just want to know. Please tell me." His father then says that he makes about $50 an hour.

"Oh, that's too much!"the little boy answers with his head down. Looking up, he says,"Dad, can I please borrow $30?" The father gets angry and says, "That's why you ask about my pay? If you want to borrow some money to buy a boring toy, then you'd better go back to your room. I work hard every day and I do not like such a thing."

down. He goes to the boy's room and opens the door."Are you sleeping, son?"he asks. "No, Dad,"the boy answers. "I am thinking—maybe I am too hard on you earlier," his father says. "Here's the $30 you want."

The little boy sits up with a smile. Then, he takes out $20 from his schoolbag, and looks up at his father. He says,"Dad, I have $50 now. Can I buy one hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."

With no words, the father's eyes turn red.
