Do you live in a city? Do you know how cities began? Long long ago, there were only a few thousand people in the world. These people moved from place to place. They moved over the land,hunting (打猎) animals for food.

A long time passed. These people began growing crops. No one knows how or when those people learnt about growing food. But when they did, their lives changed, and they did not have to move houses any more. They could stay in one place and grow it. People began to live near each other. And so the first villages grew. Many people came to work in the villages. These villages grew bigger and bigger. Then people had machines, and lives in the villages changed again. They built factories. So the villages grew into cities. Some of them grew very big.

Let's Protect Animals in Danger

Animals are our friends. I'm sure most of us like animals. But now many animals are in danger, such {#blank#}1{#/blank#} pandas, tigers, giraffes and elephants. 

Why are these animals in danger? One reason is that people kill these animals for their meat and fur{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(get) money. I'm sorry to hear that many wild animals lose their {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(life) every year. Another reason is that people are taking away their homes. People cut down a large number of {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(tree). Many wild animals don't have a safe place {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(live). That's {#blank#}6{#/blank#} villages and farms are getting bigger and people are taking away their land and forests. 

So what can we do {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(protect) animals? First, we must stop people from killing animals {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the wild. Second, we should plant more trees and protect the animals'homes. Third, we can raise some money{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(save) the animals in danger. Animals are our friends. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(help) animals  is to help ourselves. So let's take steps to protect animals from now on!

Earthquakes happen without warnings. But {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(not worry) because most are so weak that you won't feel them. Only a few big ones hurt people. However, it's very important{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(know) what to do when an earthquake happens. Let's learn some. 

● Don't go outside. You could get hurt from {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(fall) glass, windows or furniture. If you are outside, stay away from{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(build) and power lines. 

● Stay under strong furniture. Hold onto it. Or stay in a corner of the room. Cover your face and head {#blank#}5{#/blank#} your arms and cover your mouth with a towel(毛巾) or clothing. Don't go outside {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the shaking stops. 

● Keep away from falling things. Most people get injured (受 伤) by falling things during {#blank#}7{#/blank#} earthquake, not by the shaking itself. So {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (not stand) too near to something that could fall and hurt you. 

● Stop and stay inside your car. If you are driving when an earthquake happens, stop the car if it's safe. Stay inside your car until the earthquake stops, and {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(not drive) near bridges. Try {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(not stop) by power lines or trees. These might fall and hurt you. 

 Robots become a bigger part of daily lives, like in teaching, taking care of us, and even being our friends. Today, designers are considering how to get humans to trust robots. They pay special attention to voices, accents(口音), and dialects(方言) that robots use.

 Imagine a"robot voice" in your head. Maybe it sounds like a robot from science fiction movies or TV shows. It could be robotic, unnatural, and sound like a boss. Nowadays, however, machines are starting to talk more and more like real people.

 Here comes a question. Do people like robots that speak with a standard accent, or with accents and dialects from their own region? Some people think robots with standard accents sound smarter. But other researchers say robots with accents and dialects might feel more friendly and comforting. They might even seem more trustworthy(值得信任的).

 To find out more, a group of researchers in Germany did a study. They wanted to know how people feel about robots based on the dialect they use. Katharina Kühne and her team asked 120 Germans to watch a video of a small robot called Nao. Nao spoke in either standard German or the Berlin dialect.

 After watching the video, the researchers asked the participants(参与者) which robot they thought was more trustworthy. Most people liked the robot that spoke in standard German, but not everyone did. If the participants spoke the Berlin dialect well and often, they thought the robot that spoke it was more trustworthy.

Kühne's team knows there are many other factors that could influence how people feel about   robots, like how they look, if the voice sounds like a man or a woman, and the meanings behind different dialects. But their study still gives us a good idea of how language can change the ways we interact with and think about robots. The results of this study can help make robots that meet the needs of people from all kinds of backgrounds.
