When I was a university student, I{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(attract) by the Chinese. Unless exams were approaching, my weekends were devoted to having fun or perhaps a part-time job. My Chinese students{#blank#}5{#/blank#}the other hand, seemed to spend their entire waking hours studying. I understand that competition in Chinese universities is extremely fierce. Nonetheless, their energy and motivation put{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(I) to shame.

    My first year in China was also my first year as a teacher. It was both challenging{#blank#}7{#/blank#}rewarding. One thing I know for certain is that my year in Wuhan changed me for the{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(good). Thanks to the{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(polite) and warmth of Chinese students, I overcame my fear of speaking in public and became more self-confident. Most{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(important), I met dozens of nice people and made many excellent friends.

    Folk music includes many musical variations over the centuries. This form of music is{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (energy) in English-speaking countries.

    In the 1960s, folk music{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (become) very popular thanks to artists like US song-writer Bob Dylan and Canadian singer Leonard Cohen.     Their songs are rich in reference to the Bible and poets as well. And most {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(important), their songs are nice to listen to and sing along with.

    When I was a child in 1970s, my family was very poor, just{#blank#}1{#/blank#} other average families in the countryside.     Today we talk about a word that is a feeling as well as a place. For example, you could say, “Police are homing in on the suspects.” That is also where we get homing pigeons－pigeons that can find {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (they) way home after being released.

    But today, “home” is more often used as a noun. And it has a very emotional {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(connect) for American English speakers. You can remember the meaning of the word by the expression “home is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the heart is.” That expression means home is anywhere you feel love and comfort. It is a place where you belong, and often a place you consider your origin. In other {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (word), “home” is not {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(simple) a building where you live—that's a house. Today we use this title to mean that the ideas and feelings that you had as a child often change when you are an adult. So, even if you return to the place where you grew up, time and distance have changed your perspective (观点).

    In many countries, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} is not unusual for families of different backgrounds to live together in the shared space. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, in the United States, this idea may still be considered strange.

    But this type of housing, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (call) co-housing, is getting its {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (popular) in the United States, too. Co-housing complexes (综合设施) appear across the country. For many people, this way of life is a good {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (choose) in the busy modern society. A co-housing community has {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (private) owned houses and shared land. There is often a “common house" with a kitchen and dining room, meeting room, and maybe a workshop of library or music room. About 25 co-housing communities {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (build) in recent years, and 150 more are planned.

    A co-housing complex is a place {#blank#}8{#/blank#} citizens shop, cook, and eat together. Citizens of a co-housing complex like its sense of shared community. Children have other kids to play {#blank#}9{#/blank#}, which many families like. Other citizens like the feeling of living in a “village”. Citizens also say that they can live in co-housing for {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (little) money than they would pay for nearby apartments.
