    One day I got in a taxi, and we left for the airport. We were driving in the right lane（车道）when, suddenly, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver stopped his car at once. The tire（轮胎） made a very loud noise, and at the very last moment our car stopped just one inch from the back of the other car.

    I was frightened. But then I couldn't believe what happened next. The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, turned his head and started yelling at us. I couldn't believe it! But my taxi driver just smiled at the guy. So I asked, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost sent us to hospital.”

    This is when my taxi driver taught my what I now call, “The Law of the Rubbush Truck（垃圾车法则）.” He explained that many people are like rubbish trucks. They run around full of rubbish, full of anger and full of bad feelings. As their rubbish piles up, they look for a place to throw it away and sometimes they'll throw it at you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their rubbish and spread it to other people at work, at home or on the streets.

    Successful people never let rubbish trucks change their moods. Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so love those who love you and pray（祈祷）for those who don't.

    A taxi hit a truck. A policeman spoke to the taxi driver and the truck driver. He also spoke to Tom. Tom was a witness(目击者). This is what they said.

    Truck driver: I was driving from the airport to Newtown. A car crossed the road, so I slowed down. I did not stop. A taxi hit the back of my truck. Nobody was badly hurt but both vehicles were damaged.

    Taxi driver: I was driving behind a truck a few kilometres from Newtown. The truck stopped suddenly. The driver did not give me a warning. I was driving very slowly. I could not pass the truck because there were two cars coming near from Newtown. My taxi hit the truck, and some glass cut my left hand.

    Tom: I saw the traffic accident about a kilometre from the airport. A truck was going to Newtown. It was not going very fast. There was a taxi about two hundred metres behind the truck. It was going fast. When the truck slowed down, the taxi hit it. The taxi driver was not looking at the truck. He was looking out of the window at something. My friend saw the accident too.

    Tom's friend spoke to the policeman and agreed with Tom.

I'm from a small town. It lies in(位于) the east of Zhejiang Province near the East Sea. You can't see it on the map of China because it is too small. There are not many tall buildings in the town. The tallest building is the primary school. 

The population of the town is fifty thousand. The East Sea is to the east of the town. To the south is the flat land. Some low hills are near the town. And a river runs through the town. 

The weather here is comfortable. It's not too cold in winter or too hot in summer. There is a big garden in the town. We can hear birds singing everywhere in the garden. And there are many kinds of fishes in the town. The fishermen(渔民) in my home town are all living a happy life. 

I love my home town and I hope it will become better and better!

In a village,there lived a young man named James. He always felt pain because of his hard life. One day, he visited a wise old man and told1 about his troubles. 

The old man2 James patiently and then gave him a handful of salt. James was confused(困 惑的). He wanted to know whether the salt was magical and could wash away all the3 in his life. 

Then the man4 James to put some salt in a glass of water and drink it. James followed the man's instructions(指示). 

"How does it5 ?'asked the man. 

"That is awful,"said James as he spat(吐)out the salty water. 

The old man laughed and then led James to the nearby6 . "Put the same amount of salt in the lake and drink the water from it,"said the man. 

"It is perfect. I can7 taste any salt,"James said. "I am so8 . I can drink a lot!" This time,James enjoyed the cool water of the lake very much. 

The old man then sat next to James,took his hands and said,"The pain in life is just like salt. How it tastes depends on the container we put it into. So,when you are in pain,you can make your heart9 . Stop being like a glass and10 being like a lake. Then the troubles in your life will cause you less pain and you can enjoy your life better. 

Nadia Comaneci, a famous gymnast(体操运动员), was born in Romania in 1961. 

When she was doing cartwheels(侧手翻) on the playground at the age of 7, a PE teacher saw her. He told her family that she was very good and advised Nadia to train in the capital of Romania. Although it was a long way from her home, Nadia went because she loved gymnastics. 

After that, she trained hard and took part in lots of competitions. Later, she was named as one of the Athletes of the 20th Century. 

In 1976, Nadia went to the Olympics in Canada. She was so fantastic in the competition that everyone waited for the score, a high score. But the scoreboard showed 1. 00!

Everyone was surprised. There wasn't a sound for a moment. Then a voice came, " Ladies and gentlemen, Nadia Comaneci. . . 10!"

The audience(观众) cheered very loudly. So what happened? Well, when the scoreboard was built, no one thought a score of 10. 00 was possible. The decimal point(小数点) was in the wrong place! In fact, the scoreboard only had three digits(数位) to show scores, such as 9. 50 or 9. 85 at that time. 

In the 1976 Summer Olympics, Nadia Comaneci scored a perfect 10, which was thought impossible before. From then on, she was looked as a hero. In 1984, she got retired(退休的).
