The holiday's upon us．After months of study, you have some time to yourself．So, why not read a book? Well, some people will say, “Why trouble with books? We have the Internet and other media (媒体) that offer a lot more colorful programs．Books are history!”
But don't be fooled．There's still a lot to be said for reading-and reading as widely as possible．
(1) One clear reason is that a well-chosen ______ is a wonderful collection of ______ and expressions, so long as you have a good dictionary, of course．Believe me, it's far easier to get new English words and expressions from a book or article than it is from the TV or the Internet．
(2) But an even more important point is that books give you something that modern media simply cannot. The webpage（网页）is always full of pictures and the text is often designed to make it as easy to read as possible．
Though “easy” may be welcome, unluckily it's of little use for any long-time development of reading skills and the general language level．For that, there's still no substitute(替代品)for a book．
But perhaps the best single reason is that simply choosing what you read and doing it by yourself means that it's something you do by and for yourself．You can choose what you want to read．It's hard work, but while you are reading, you'll find that what once seemed like a duty is now a pleasure．Reading can bring us pleasure.

    Minoru Yamasaki was a well-known American architect (建筑师). He was born in 1912 in Seattle, Washington. Minoru went to college to study architecture. Every summer he worked in a fish factory to help pay for college. He slept in a room with 100 other men.

Recently, Chongqing Three Gorges University has held an activity named “Cell Phone Ninja”(手机忍者). They would like their students not to use cell phones for 21 days. It is really a challenge( 挑战)for most students.

The activity started on April 12. Each student who volunteered to take part in this activity got a bracelet(手环). If the students did not use their cell phones, there would be a photo on the screen of the bracelet to show that. If they used their cell phones, a different photo would appear on the screen of the bracelet. After the last class of each day, the students sent the photos to the school's public Wechat.

More than 800 students wished to take part in this test, and 400 were chosen. After seven days, only 103 students remained. The test was set for 21 days because some scientists believe that 21 days is long enough to help people form a habit.

There are some very good things about open education. This way of teaching allows the students to develop their own interests in many subjects. Open education allows students to be responsible(负责) for their own education. Some students do badly in traditional classrooms. The open classroom may allow them to enjoy learning. Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules. But many students will not do well in an open classroom.

For some students, there are too few rules. These students will do little in school. They will not make good use of open education. Because open education is so different from traditional education, these students may have a problem of getting used to making so many choices. For many students it is important to have some rules in the classroom. They worry about the rules even when there are no rules. Even a few rules will help this kind of students. The last point about open education is that some traditional teachers do not like it. Many teachers do not believe in open education. Teachers who want to have an open classroom may have many problems at their school.
