Do you know something about the holidaycamps in Hong Kong? In the past, the students in Hong Kong usually join anEnglish holiday camp in their holidays. And their parents didn't go with them,though they were very young.

    Now they still enjoy joining many kinds ofholiday camps without their parents. Many parents let their children join somekinds of holiday camps in order to learn some useful knowledge in the life andalso learn some knowledge about living skills, science, reading, writing and soon. The most important thing for the children to join the holiday camps is tolearn to look after themselves.

    Holiday camps in Hong Kong are not soexpensive. Most families can afford to sent their children there for study orfor making their bodies strong.

    It is said that students in Hong Kong havemuch knowledge about many things. Perhaps it has something to do with all kindsof holiday camps.

There are two mice, Bill and Paul. They are good friends. One mouse lives in the country, the other mouse lives in the city. On a sunny day they meet in the street. 

Paul: Hi, Bill! Have a look at my house in the country. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. 

Bill: I'd love to. But I hear that the food is not delicious, and your house is small. Is that so?

Paul: No, that's not true. Come and see by yourself!

Then Bill goes to the countryside with Paul. 

Bill: Paul! Why do you live in a hole in the field*? You should come and live in the city. You will live in a nice house made of stones. You will have better food to eat. You must come and see me at my house in the city. 

Paul:Thanks! Maybe you are right. I'll visit your house one day. 

Several days later, Paul visits Bill's house in the city. The house is big and beautiful. They are sitting in the living room, having a big dinner comfortably. Suddenly, there is a great noise. 

Bill: Run! Run! The cat is coming!

Paul: Oh, no! Both the house and the food are nice, but I do not like living in the city. I love my hole in the field, for it is nicer to be poor but happy than to be rich but afraid. 

My father was busy fixing Belinda's spaceship all afternoon. In the evening, I went to the landing place. "Dear Father," I said politely. "Have you found Belinda's parents yet?"

"Not yet, my dear." He shook his head.

I felt relaxed. I didn't want to meet Belinda's parents—they might be ten times as loud and bossy as she was.

But Belinda had followed me.

"Not yet?" she shouted. "Why not? I'll send them a message! They'll listen to me!"

Belinda ran to the radio. She shouted into it so loudly that I had to cover all my four ears. "Mummy! Daddy! I'm on an awful spaceship full of purple people! Come and find me now!"

"Poor Belinda!" my sister came and said. "Her parents must be missing her."

"Huh!" I snorted (发出哼声). "Missing her? You're joking! Who would want such a bossy kid back? They probably lost her on purpose."

Belinda's face clouded. I thought she was going to shout again, but she didn't. Instead, something very strange happened — her eyes began to water!

"Oh, help!" said Roa. "Is she dying?"

I felt terrible. "Don't die, Belinda! I didn't mean it."

Then Belinda opened her mouth wide and shouted, "What if it's true? What if they've gone away and left me here forever?"

We were all so busy comforting Belinda that we didn't notice the soft knock of a ship landing outside. We didn't see two tall people come out of it until Belinda ran out in excitement.

"Mummy! Daddy!"

Belinda's parents were even uglier than she was, but they looked polite. "Hello, dear," the female said. "We're sorry we kept you waiting."

We smiled as the three of them boarded their spaceship. "Goodbye!" shouted Belinda. "Goodbye! Thanks for taking care of our baby girl!" said her father.

None of us answered. We waved (挥手) cheerfully as the ship took off and went far away into the stars.

On a cold winter morning, Mamothy, the lead elephant, set out with her family for breakfast. The cold weather made 1 difficult to find food in the wild. So Mamothy decided to take them to the village where humans lived. When they reached the village, they were 2 .

"Wow! Look! There are so many flowers in this place! How big and colorful they are!" the baby elephants said 3 .

"They don't look like real flowers. Let me find out 4 they are before we eat them," Mamothy told everyone. Suddenly, she saw 5 cow and went to ask her.

"I'm sorry to trouble you, but could you please tell me what 6 ? Mamothy asked when pointing to the colorful things. Is it safe7 them?"

"Oh no! Don't eat them! Humans call them plastic (塑料的) bags. They throw them in a dump nearby. But the wind spreads them all around. You may choke (窒息) to death 8 you eat them." answered the cow.

"How terrible! Thank you for 9 me this." Mamothy went back to her family and told everyone the news.

Then Mamothy said, "Humans' world is too dangerous now but it used to 10 SO safe! What a pity! Tomorrow, we shall all go to another place to look for food." All the elephants agreed and then they seldom set foot on the village.

When I had something difficult to do, I used to ask my mother for help. But she always said, "Do it yourself, dear." I was not glad at all. I thought she was the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} mother in the world!

For example, one day, I decided to invite some friends to my home. My bedroom was not in order. Books were everywhere. And I didn't {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. I asked my mother to help me clean it, but she still said, " Do it yourself, girl."

Because of my "lazy mother" , I have to {#blank#}3{#/blank#} my clothes and clean my room. I have to help my parents cook food and I even have to go to the dentist by myself. It is really hard for me to do everything {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, but I have learned a lot.

As time goes by, I understand my mother. She makes me clever and hard-working! 

What a great mother!

I was in line waiting to pay. A little boy in the front was buying some clothes. I noticed that   the little boy was paying mostly with change(零钱). It seemed that he broke his pig bank(猪形储蓄罐) to do this shopping. However, the cashier told him he was $ 8.00 short after counting his money.

 It was clear that the boy already used all the money. The lady in front of me said, "Well,I could pay half of that." I told the boy that I could pay the other half. We searched our handbags. However, both of us only had ten-dollar bills (纸币). Other customers behind began searching their pockets to find some change. It was amazing and moving that all these strangers seemed to have the same idea. All of us wanted to help the boy. Within minutes the cashier said, "I have too much money." The cashier didn't need our ten-dollar bills. Then the lady in front of me said,"Wait! I didn't get a chance to give anything!"

I smiled at her and said, "You did your share, because it was your idea and you started all this." The little boy smiled and thanked us. I was left with a good feeling. I saw the love and goodness of others all around me. The woman in front of me smiled and said, "It feels good to give, doesn't it?" I smiled back and said, "Yes!"
