四川省甘孜州2020年中考英语试卷

阅读理解

On a weekend during Spring Festival, my parents and I were sitting in a restaurant. The drinks and food were good, so when we finished, my father left a tip(小费). As we were about to open the door, the waiter caught up with us. He gave the tip back to us. My dad forgot that here is China, and tipping is not common.

However, in some countries, tipping is the norm. That's the way it is in the US. It's said to be good manners to tip your waiter, taxi driver, hairdresser, doorman and so on. And how much you tip depends on the service, which can really put your math skills to the test! But we usually give a tip that is 15-20% of the bill.

So why is there a strong custom of tipping? In the US, waiters have a very low income(收入). They depend on tips to pay their bills. As a US writer once wrote about her experience as a waitress, "It was difficult and I lived and died by my tips."

(1)、What did the family think of the food at the restaurant?
A、Delicious. B、Cheap. C、Cold.
(2)、Where were the parents when the waiter stopped them?
A、At the table. B、At the door. C、Outside the restaurant.
(3)、What does the underlined word “norm” mean in Paragraph 2?
A、Idea. B、Custom. C、Bill.
(4)、What can be the tip for a $100 bill according to the writer?
A、$8. B、$10. C、$18.
(5)、The last paragraph mainly tells us __________.
A、who need tips for their life B、how the US writer made her life C、why tipping is popular in the US

My grandmother left me almost 18 years ago but I still miss her every day. She was such an important part of my life. My mum, dad, brothers and I lived in her old house for most of my childhood. When I close my eyes and open my heart. I can still see her in her flower print, cotton dress. I can hear her high voice saying "hello" as I opened the door after school, while her arms opened to give me a big hug and a kiss. I can even remember the smell of hers. When she hugged me, I could feel the love and joy coming from her heart.

I thought I knew everything about my grandma, but amazingly, I am still learning more about her even today. Just yesterday an old family friend stopped to talk to me at the post office. She told me what happened once she visited my grandma when I was still a little boy. They were sitting around the dining room table talking and our friend noticed the lovely earrings my grandma was wearing. She told my grandma how much she liked them and asked if my grandma could leave them to her in her will(遗嘱). Without a second thought, my sweet grandma took them off and gave them to her.

I decided then that I want to regard my grandma as my role model. Be nice and care more about people and less about things.

 阅读下面材料,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

I am worried about my teeth. My front teeth are so big that they almost look like buckteeth (龅牙). When I take photos, I never laugh. I am also afraid my classmates will laugh at me. If I had smaller teeth like other people, I would be very happy.

(Mari, Lima, Peru)

I want to change my pessimistic attitude (悲观的态度) to life. Sometimes, things are not that bad, but I take everything too seriously. Once, I thought I didn't do well in an exam. I became very sad. But when I saw the result, it was not as bad as I thought. I worried about it too much. I think I shouldn't be so pessimistic.

(Troy, London, UK)

I want to change my bad temper (脾气). I often get angry and hurt the people I love. Every time my mother cares about me, I think she talks too much. Sometimes, I even argue with her. But I know ____. I shouldn't do that. I will try to change my temper.

(Jake,Ottawa, Canada)

I often dream about having long legs. They would make me look more beautiful, and help me run faster. I like running and always join the running races at school. But other runners always pass me during the big race. I try my best, but it doesn't work because of my short legs. So I want to have longer legs.

 (Nancy, Sydney , Australia)
