山东省泰安市岱岳区(五四制)2019-2020学年八年级下学期英语期末考试试题(含听力音频)

阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中, 选出最佳选项。

When something goes wrong, it can be very satisfying to say, "Well, it's so-and-so's mistake. "or "I know I'm late, but it's not my fault; the car broke down. It is probably not your mistake, but once you form the habit of blaming(指责)somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to remedy(补致)the situation. This is the winner's key to Success.

Winners are great at solving problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly (按部就班地). Or, you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, if your colleague(同事)causes you problems on the job for being short of responsibility (责任) or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather an just blame the person. Ask to work with a different person, or don't depend on the person. You should accept that the person is not dependable and find creative ways to work successfully. This is what being a winner is all about -creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens.

Winners don't have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and chances to develop their own talents. So, stop focusing on "whose mistake it is. "Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stones for success.

①On Sept 7, 2023. famous Chinese archaeologist (考古学家) Fan Jinshi, 85, was awarded by UNESCO(联合国教科文组织) for her protection of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang.

②Called the "daughter of Dunhuang", her story with the caves started in 1963. At that time, Fan finished her studies in Peking University and had the chance to work at the Mogao Caves.

③"Seeing Dunhuang for the first time was very exciting. But only when truly staying here did I realize that inside the caves is a world of divine (神圣的) beauty while outside is a land of blowing sand and yellow earth," Fan told Gansu Daily.

④Back in those days, it wasn't easy to work in Dunhuang. Fan and her coworkers had to live in mud houses and drink salty water. They stayed inside the caves to do research, copy murals (壁画), and do whatever they could to protect them.

⑤As time passed, Fan found a serious problem. The increasing number of tourists visiting

Dunhuang might harm (伤害) the caves. A solution needed to be found.

⑥In the late 1980s, Fan discovered computer technology by chance. She realized that this might preserve the Mogao Caves forever. After over 30 years, the Dunhuang Academy built a digital database (电子数据库) to protect cultural relics there, allowing Dunhuang's art to live forever and people to visit the Mogao Caves online.

⑦"In my whole life, I've only done one thing: protect the world cultural treasure of the Mogao Caves,"she told People's Daily. "My heart belongs to Dunhuang."

Every morning at 5 a. m., workers of Disney World Resort prepare to deliver food to the pickiest (最挑剔的) eaters: thousands of animals that live there. "We make meals tor creatures from big cats to sharks." animal nutrition assistant(营养助手) Cori Coleman says. So how do Coleman and her coworkers at the animal restaurant feed hundreds of animals every day? Nat Geo Kids takes you behind the scenes of the wildest"restaurant" ever.

Most animals aren't"ordering" the same dish. Their food is based on what they need to stay healthy. Nutritionists use a digital program to prepare catch animal' s daily diet. "Some animals are growing, and others need to lose weight," Coleman says. "It's not as simple as giving every animal the same meal."

After the diet is decided, the"chefs" deal with items that need to be broken down, like large pieces of fruit. Then they weigh the food to make sure each animal is getting the right amount of food. Finally, they put the meals into boxes so the food can be transported to the animals across the park.

Keepers watch the animals to record what they like and what they don't. "Our bats love most fruit," keeper Erica Hoffstadt says. "But they can't stand strawberries!". Notes like these are shared with the nutritionists so they can displace food for picky eaters.

Many people dream of going on a great travel. Most of us keep dreaming; others make it happen.

Gregg Bleakney's dream was to travel the Americas from top to bottom (底部). He got the idea after he finished a 1,600-kilometer bike ride. Gregg's friend Brooks Allen was also a cyclist. The two friends talked and made a plan: They would travel from Alaska (阿拉斯加) to Argentina (阿根廷) by bike.

To pay for the trip, Gregg and Brooks worked and saved money for years. In 2005, after four years of planning, they set off. Once they were on the road, they often camped outdoors or stayed in hostels (青年旅社). In many places, local (当地的) people opened their homes to the two friends and gave them food.

In May 2007-two years, 12 countries, and over 30,500 km later-Gregg finally reached Argentina, at the southern tip of South America. Halfway through the trip, Brooks had to stop. He returned to the United States and Gregg continued (继续) without him.

Gregg and Brooks kept a record (记录) of their travel in an online blog. The trip taught both men a lot about traveling. Here is some of Gregg's advice.

. The fewer bags you have, the less you'll worry about.

. Don't plan everything. You'll be more relaxed and happy.

. Be polite (礼貌的). Nobody wants to fight with a nice guy.

You may see some herons(鹭) in the park using bread or insects as a tool to catch fish. This is just one of the ways in which birds have changed their living habits because of humans' activities. Now, a new study has found that birds that are able to change their behaviors(行为) in this way are less likely to die out. These changes may include adding new food to their diet, developing new hunting skills, or living in a new environment.

Scientists studied reports of new behaviors among different kinds of birds around the world. The study includes more than 3,800 new behaviors among 8,600 kinds of birds. They discovered that the more new hunting skills the birds learn, the larger population they will have.

However, scientists also found that innovation(革新) can only protect birds from changes in their living place, but not from over-hunting or the danger from other animals. For example, some animals are very dangerous to some birds: snakes can eat little birds; some hungry mice steal birds' eggs. Above all, humans often mean the greatest danger to birds. They always take up too much space, cut down trees and even cause various kinds of pollution.

This shows that, unlike what is usually believed, the ability of innovation protects animals from some but not all of the rapid changes in the environment.
