Hi, Liam!

      So you're my new pen friend. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I'm 14 years old and I live in Calgary, CanadaI have two older brothers, Brian and Sam. I'm the only girl.

      I love sports and I'm always looking for exciting new hobbies to try. I like playing baseball in winter.

      It's fun beating the boys! But summer is my favourite time of the year. I love skateboarding and rock climbing in summer.

     Skateboarding's great because it's so fun and easy to learn! I often skateboard after school. There are many placesin the park where I can do stunts. I'm good at stunts like jumping and turning the skateboard!

     Rock climbing is also really fun. I usually climb with my dad on weekends. We can't do it on real mountains very often because we live in the city. We do indoor rock climbing instead but it's not as challenging.

Round the World

    Mr and Mrs Spencer both had very busy jobs and didn't have much time to spend with their young children. They wanted to change this, and because their hobby was boating, they decided to sail round the world together.

    It took six years to prepare everything for the trip. First, they bought a new boat. Then, both the husband and wife had to take advanced(先进的) sailing lessons and learn all about the sea and the weather. Mr Spencer also did several courses in repairing engines and Mrs Spencer spent an hour in a restaurant learning to cut up fish.

    In October, they had one year off from their jobs and sailed away from England with their two children. The next year, in August, their long journey ended in Australia.

    The boat was not big, but they took a teacher for the children with them. None of them found the trip boring because there were three computers, many CDs, a TV and a DVD player on the boat.

    The family loved being at the sea and seeing the stars in the sky. But, most of all, Mr and Mrs Spencer enjoyed spending time with their children while they were still young.

    Erin and her friend Amy flew into San Diego last week. They are both in their mid-20s，and both are nurses who live in Georgia. It was their first visit to California，and they were excited.

    They headed north to Los Angeles. They visited many places in Hollywood. They hoped they would see lots of actors and actors' homes. If they got lucky，they would get some autographs and maybe even some photographs of them standing next to a movie star.

    But they were disappointed. A car took them on a tour past actors，homes，but no actors were outside their homes. The homes themselves were hardly visible (看得见的).They were often hidden by tall gates，fences (栅栏)，walls or trees. Later，however， Erin and Amy were able to put their hands and feet into the handprints and footprints of movie stars at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

    Erin and Amy drove to Burbank the next day to watch the taping of a Jay Leno show， but the line was so long that they decided to give up. Instead they went to a mall and had a great time shopping. They flew back to Georgia with souvenirs，photos，and wonderful memories. Amy said，”Next time，we're not leaving until we see some real live actors!”
