Give water, save lives

A bottle of water may not seem like much to you, but thousands of bottles will be of great help for people who live in drought-hit(遭受旱灾) areas in China.

Since last autumn, there has been very little rain in Southwest China. Some places, especially in Yunnan, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, have experienced a serious drought. Crops (庄稼) died, the land cracked(裂开), and wells (井) and rivers dried up. More than 20 million people are having difficulty in finding safe drinking water.

After learning about the drought, many people around the country helped by giving water, money and other things.

Last week, every member of the Communist Youth League (共青团员) and Young Pioneers(少先队员) were encouraged to give one bottle of water to the drought-hit areas. Students in primary schools and middle schools quickly joined the activity. In Yuhua Primary School in Xi' an, 900 students bought over 1,000 bottles of water with their pocket money. They also wrote their wishes on the bottles.

The serious drought has also made students realize the importance of saving water. Students from Nanshan Middle School in Huizhou, Guangdong went on the street to tell people to take part in water-saving activities.

"I've heard that some children in drought-hit areas don't have enough drinking water. They have to drink muddy ( 含有泥土的 ) water. I feel really sad about that," said one student. "I decide to take a shower twice a week instead of every day to save water," he said.

Last week, our school held a "Green School Project". In order to reply to the call, our class did something meaningful as a team. Some of us wrote down the whole plan. Some prepared the necessary materials. I found it was much easier and faster than doing something alone. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Of course, team activities aren't always easy. In fact, they can be stressful if people don't know how to work well together. Here are some tips to make team work successful.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}There's a saying, "If you don't know where you're going, you probably won't get there." So the clear goal is important. Before doing a class project, you need to check the goal and instructions carefully.

Teams work better when people have their own roles. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} There might also be a note-taker who writes down the team's ideas during meetings, and a time-keeper to make sure people don't waste time chatting.

For large projects, divide the work into smaller tasks. Team members can choose tasks they do well in or enjoy. Other people might be good at writing or making reports. Of course, you shouldn't always do the same task. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

When you're working in a team, respect is necessary. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Do your fair share, so other members don't have to do work for you. Finally, try to stay active and enjoy yourself. Everything is easier when you're having fun!

What do you usually do on Saturday? I usually go to Michael's Farm (农场) to see my grandfather and my cousins on Saturday. Michael is just my grandfather's name. 

It's far from my home to Michael's Farm. This Saturday, my friends Eric and Jim go there with me. At 10: 00 am, we start off by bike. We take a lot of food and drinks with us because we want to have lunch on our way to the farm. First, we ride on Blue Road for one and a half hours. Next, we have lunch under a tree near a crossing. After lunch, we turn left at the crossing and ride on Sky Road for another (再一的) hour to get to my grandfather's farm. Along the way, we are tired (疲劳的) but happy. 

My grandfather lives in a big farmhouse. He is very happy to see us. We help him water vegetables, feed (喂) animals and do some cleaning. We play games with my cousins. My grandfather cooks lots of food for us. 

We have a good time with my grandfather and my cousins on Michael's Farm. The next morning, we ride back home.

Charity(慈善) took one famous lady far away from her home. Mother Teresa spent most of her life helping others She was born in 1910. When she was eighteen years old, she decided to be a nun(修女). Soon she was sent to India. At first, she worked in a school in Calcutta. Most of the students came from the rich family, and Mother Teresa's life was comfortable. Twenty years later, she left the school and Started to help poor people. First she opened a free school. Some of her former students came to help he rather new school, In 1950, she started the Missionaries of Charity(仁爱之家) that was made up of nuns. In 1952, she opened the first home for the dying. Some people didn't like it because they were at raid of having dying people in their neighborhood. But slowly people changed their mind. They began to see all the good that Mother Teresa and her nuns were doing. Later, Mother Teresa became very famous, and received a lot of money from people who wanted to support(支持) her work. In 1979 she won the Noble Peace Prize. More people have begun to do charity work since then. Now there are homes for the dying in many different countries. Mother Teresa died in 1997, but she is still remembered all over the world for what she did for the poor. 

My school will hold an English Week. The activity time is from 10 March to 15 March. All1 and English teachers will join in the activities. We will have many activities, such as singing English songs, holding speech contests, and watching English movies. But we have a 2 about the plan for the English Week, and all of us have  3 opinions. Some students think it could be a 4 of time, "We should learn English by ourselves, and studying in groups would 5 a lot of time. What's more, we have much homework to do, and there's no time 6 for us to do anything else." However, some other students said we should hold the activity of English Week because we can learn to 7 in groups in that way. It could 8 our English a lot. Studying together would be more interesting. I agree on the second 9 . We need after-class activities, and English Week is 10 useful and meaningful. I think it is worth well being held.

People usually hate mice, but one mouse has won the hearts of people all over the world—the famous Mickey Mouse (米老鼠).

Ninety years ago, most movies were silent. A man called Walt Disney made a cartoon mouse that could talk in his movies. He named his mouse Mickey Mouse. People both young and old were very excited at the talking mouse. Children loved to see their friend, because he brought joy and laughter to them. Mickey was a clean mouse right from the beginning. Perhaps this is one reason why people hate real mice and love Mickey Mouse. In his early life, Mickey made some mistakes. People were angry. They wrote to Disney and said that they didn't want Mickey to do silly things. So Disney made a new animal named Donald Duck. He also made a dog called Pluto. This dog does stupid things and makes mistakes wherever he goes. Now our Mickey Mouse is not only clean but also important. He appears as a beautiful and clever star. He has his friends in almost every country.
