Emilyand Alex were happy when their family moved to a house with a very big garden. Theycould climb up trees, grow flowers and even play badminton. They liked to watchthe birds flying among the trees in the garden. They even started to put food outto attract(吸引)more birds.

Everythingwas fine for a few days until one afternoon there was a strange bumping noise ona window. Emily went outside and found a small bird dead on the grass. Its neckseemed to be broken.

"Itmust have flown into the window," Alex said when his sister Emily called himto have a look. "Ah, yes, look here. You can see the mark where it hit thewindow. There are a couple of tiny feathers stuck(粘贴) on the window."

    "Poorthing!" Emily said.

Duringthe next month, another five birds died in the same way. "Why would they flyto the windows?" they wondered. Finally they found out the truth. When thebirds were flying, they couldn't see into the rooms. All they saw was the reflection(反射) of the garden. They thought that they were flying into trees becausethey saw trees reflected by the window.

"Somethinghas to be done to save the birds." the parents decided.

At first,he family tried keeping curtains(窗帘)across the windows, but thismade the room dark. Then they bought some strong black paper and cut out the shapeof ahawk. They made six hawks—one for each window. They stuck the hawks to the windows. They lookedpretty and did not keep out much light. When the birds saw the hawks, they wouldfly away.

Afterthat, there were no more dead birds. The family were much happier.

This was an English park. Was this an English summer? I was shaking with cold! It didn't seem warm enough. Perhaps I should explain. I'm from Brisbane in Australia. But today I was visiting my family in England. And they were taking me out to enjoy London.

"What a fine, bright day!" my Aunt Jess said happily. I nodded and smiled politely. In England it's not polite to disagree, especially about the weather. But inside I was thinking: It looks awful. Brisbane's winter is warmer than England's summer!

It was sunny at first. But, as our picnic went on, it turned darker. Storm clouds suddenly covered the sky. British people often describe their weather as "four seasons in one day". But for me, one season was missing from that day: summer!

Aunt Jess said," When I was young, the summers were much longer and sunnier. I don't remember a single bad summer's day in the 60 seconds!" Weather records show that she was wrong. But again I did not disagree. My cousin Jane said, "Maybe we will have a white Christmas this year." That would be wonderful , but I doubted (怀疑) it. After all, it has only snowed at Christmas five times in the last fifty years.

Suddenly it turned windy. A heavy rain began to fall. We ran to hide from the rain. But my "summer" dress still got very wet. As I watched the rain beating down, I began to daydream. I dreamed about long, hot summer days in Brisbane.

"Well," said Aunt Jess, "We had a few good hours. And at least, the weather gives us something to talk about…"I smiled politely once more, but had a secret thought. Yes, let's talk about my English relatives moving to Australia!

 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项A、B、C、D中,选出可以填入空白的最佳答案。

It was a snowy day. I 1 the friend who sat with me on winter evenings, talking about our experiences and thoughts—a true 2 .

I had almost given up hope of finding another friend like that after I 3 to this city. I wanted to invite a woman I'd met only twice to come share my dinner, 4 she lived an hour away, and it was snowing. I was sure she wouldn't 5 to come. However, I decided to have a try. So I made the 6 .

"Don't feel you have to come if you don't want to."

"Is it snowing? I have a7 , and I'm in bed. I'll think about it later, if that's OK with you."

"Of course it is. And here are your choices, if you decide to come. I've just been shopping, so I can8 you macaroni (意大利粉) and cheese or fresh vegetable salad."

There was a 9 for a moment. She was thinking.

"Since I'm sick, not the macaroni and cheese. Too rich for a cold. I 10 the vegetables," she said, "Vegetables. If it's not snowing too hard."

An hour before dinner, the phone rang.

"I've got up. I've been in bed all day. Looking forward to the 11 ."

I was happy.

An hour later, she 12 , holding a piece of chocolate.

We sat by the fireplace, eating and chatting. The smell of the vegetables filled the house. And we 13 love, art and travels. Everything was warm and good.

As she left, she said. "Those vegetables were delicious. They kept me from 14 I didn't choose macaroni and cheese."

"Next time," I promised. And I went inside, quite satisfied, because I knew there would be ad next time, and I didn't feel 15 anymore."

 1题完成句子;2、3题简略回答问题;4题找出并写下最后一段的主题句;5题将文中划线句子译成汉语。

At 15:40 on December 9th, 2021, the "space teacher", Wang Yaping, made some experiments in the Tianhe Core Module of the Chinese Space Station.

"Welcome to the ‘Tiangong Classroom!' " said Wang Yaping.

Taking a "spacewalk" is difficult. Ye Guangfu was working hard to walk, but his body floated! Then he tried to turn around but he couldn't. "In space, astronauts are in a weightless environment. So we need to use nearby devices (装置) to move," he said.

The paper flower "blooms". In the "Tiangong Classroom", Wang Yaping made a beautiful water film (水膜). Then she took out a paper flower and placed it on the film of water. The pink flower slowly "bloomed"! "I hope your dreams can bloom in the huge universe!" she said.

"Space Happy Ball" rings fun. Wang Yaping asked the children on the ground to put their ping pong ball in the water. The density (密度) of the ball was less than that of the water, so it floated up. In space, when she put the ping pong ball into the water, it did not float up to the surface. It stopped in the center of the water! "The buoyancy (浮力) disappears in a weightless environment in space so the ping pong ball cannot float (漂浮)." Ms. Wang explained.
