It has been eight years since US astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian astronaut Mikhail Kornienko returned to the earth after living on the International Space Station(ISS) for 340 days. Times goes quickly, but it still means a lot as it is a record-setting journey — the longest time humans have spent living on the ISS.

"I Can Look Down on the Earth"

From the ISS, I can look down on the earth. Some parts of the world are covered by gases(气体) from factories and cars. These parts make the earth look sick.

But one of my favourite parts is the Bahamas, which are islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean is a mix of deep and light blues. I am lucky to see it.

"My Room Is Small"

I've been here for three weeks already. Sometimes, I wake up and think I'm upside down. My room is just big enough for me. I sleep in a sleeping bag. However, from the outside, the station looks like huge cans (金属容器) connected to each other. It is about the size of a football field.

"The Hardest Thing Is Putting On Socks"

Getting dressed is a bit hard when you can't "sit" or "stand", but I've got used to it. The hardest thing is putting on my socks. There is no gravity(重力) to help me bend(弯腰) over. I have no trouble deciding what to wear. I wear the same things every day.

One morning, when I was leaving for my business, a middle-aged man came up and asked me for help. He said he had no money to get food for his large family. "You look1 . Why don't you work?" I asked. "Simply because I cannot get work, sir." "If I give you work, what pay do you want?" "As long as I can get bread for my family, sir." he answered.

I decided to find out if he really meant what he said. "OK. I'll give you one pound an hour, if you 2 a brick（砖块）under your arm and walk around the square for five hours without stopping." "Thank you, sir. I will."

I found a brick and started him on his walk before I went to my 3 . I never thought he would do what he had said.

When I came back five hours later, I saw him still 4 , with the brick under his arm. I stopped him and gave him five pounds. He thanked me and told me that some people had5 to help him when they knew why he was doing all this. He said they would give him work directly, but he6 . Before leaving, he asked if I would give him the 7 , I did.

Several years later, a well-dressed man greeted me on a train. Seeing I was not sure who he was, he 8 that he was the brick man and had his own business now. "You know, I still keep that brick and always consider it as the most9 thing I have because it has brought me luck and success."

In fact, it was not the brick that made the man successful, but his faithfulness（坚定）in doing 10 a very little thing.

First Impression

The day that I met my best friend for the first time, I was full of anxiety. I was trying to do some revision for an important oral exam in the local library and people kept disturbing（打扰）me. I was getting more and more annoyed and the more upset I got, the less I was able to concentrate. I couldn't stand when I heard someone singing loudly behind me. I turned around and glared at the person who was singing. It was a tall girl about the same age as me and she was standing with a book in her hands. I picked up my books, looked at her and said angrily, "Thanks to your noise. I've been unable to study. You're so selfish!" Then I left the library in a hurry.

When I got home, I realized I'd left my textbook behind and there was nothing I could do as the library was closed. I was so upset that I almost cried. Just then, the phone rang. A girl named Jenny had noticed my book in the library and she got my phone number from the librarian. She said she didn't live far away and could bring it around for me.

I was so grateful and agreed to meet her at the store down the road. When I recognized Jenny was the girl I had shouted at for singing, I was filled with shame and apologized several times for my rude behavior.

Jenny was kind enough to pardon me. Ever since then we've been best friends and we got along very well. I often think how lucky I am! We two girls are much alike and I trust her more than anyone else.

From the experience I know that the first impression is untrue sometimes and we can't judge a person only by the first impression.

$38. 27. It was almost enough. Maybe by Monday Margaret would have enough to buy the bicycle. 

All of Margaret's friends had bikes. If she didn't get a bike, the girls in her class would forget all about her. During summer holidays, they planned to ride their bikes to each other's houses and they talked about bike trips to different sections of town and to the swimming pool. It would be a long, boring summer without a bike. 

In Margaret's family, there wasn't enough money for extras like a bicycle. That's why Margaret had to work in spare time. 

Margaret headed for Mrs. Perry's house. When she rang the doorbell, Mrs. Perry opened the door with her usual greeting. 

"Well hello, Margaret. Here's my little Miss Sunshine, right on time. "

"Let's see, " Mrs. Perry said, "I put the envelope on the table, 1 think. No, here it is on the kitchen counter. " Mrs. Perry handed the envelope to Margaret. 

"I'll be back soon. " Margaret said. She put the envelope in her jacket pocket and walked quickly down the street. Mrs. Perry could only get around with a walker (助行架). Margaret was glad she could be helpful. 

When she came to the park, she saw Gina and Alice sitting at a picnic table. "Hey, Mags, " Gina called. "Alice's mom made cookies. Come on, there's enough for the whole world, "

"We're going to my house anyway, " said Alice. "You could come after you help Mrs. Perry. "

"Thanks, but . 1 promised the Smiths I'd keep an eye on their dog while they're gone. " Margaret was feeling Warm so she took off her jacket. 

"People really trust you to help them, " said Alice. "Nobody asks me to do anything. It must make you feel great to volunteer. "

Margaret nodded. For the first time she thought maybe she should help Mrs. Perry for nothing, just "volunteer". After she got the bicycle, she might try it. 

"I'm on my way, " Margaret said to Gina and Alice. "See you on Monday. "

A block away Gina caught up with her. 

"I found this by the picnic table. Is it yours?" Gina handed her the envelope. 

"You're a lifesaver, Gina!" Margaret said. "Mrs. Perry's grocery money and the check for her medicine are inside. Thanks, "

At the supermarket, Margaret looked inside the envelope but she saw only the check for the medicine. 

Margaret searched for the money on her way back to the park. She looked carefully around the picnic table but she didn't find anything. She stopped at her house and sat on her bed, wondering what to do. Mrs. Perry might not have any more money, Even worse, she might think that Margaret had just kept the money for herself, She could say it was Mrs. Perry's fault for not sealing the envelope, but that wouldn't be fair. Margaret knew that if she had gone straight to the supermarket, this wouldn't have happened. There was only one good solution. Margaret took her own money from the shoe box, went back to the supermarket. 

Mrs. Perry was surprised when she saw Margaret. "How did you manage to get the groceries, Miss Sunshine? I found the grocery money in this envelope on the TV. I must have put the check for the medicine and the grocery money in different envelopes. Do you have time to take the money to the market?"

①Every happy child has a hobby. That's what my mum always says. My hobby is studying the night sky. My sister's hobby is playing the piano. Many people have hobbies like ours. But some people have strange hobbies. 

②Jim, a friend of mine, collects rocks. Everywhere he goes, he stops and looks at rocks. If he finds an interesting one, he will take it home and add it to his collection. His mum says that he has to stop. His room is getting full of rocks. 

③My mum's friend collects salt and pepper shakers (胡椒瓶), but not just any salt and pepper shakers. They have to have something to do with bears. They can have a picture of a bear or look like a bear. 

④When I was in Germany last year, I saw a boy called David reading a book on a train. I said to him, "That is a good book. "He said. "Yes, it is a good book. You can see that it has a green cover. I love collecting books with green covers. "That's a strange hobby. His dream is to have a wall in his house with only green books on it!

⑤And as mum always says, "Every happy child has a hobby. "What's your hobby? " 

David wanted to be an airplane pilot one day. He loved everything about 1 . 

David was so interested in his air projects that he didn't remember the time. Sometimes he even 2 to do his homework. Once, he was late in preparing his part of a group report. As a result, all the three students in his group got low(低的) grades. "I'm sorry, 3 look at this fantastic model plane!" 

One day at school, David spent his lunch time under a tree drawing a picture of his new spaceship design. He heard the bell at the end of the lunch, but could not make 4 leave. Surely Mrs. Carl would understand 5 he was late when she saw his wonderful idea, he thought.

An hour later, David walked back to his classroom. "Where were you, David? I sent many people to look 6 you." Mrs. Carl said.

"I'm sorry, but I just had to finish this spaceship design." said David as he tried to show Mrs. Carl his 7 .

"But we had a special speaker this afternoon, an airplane pilot who talked about his job. He just finished his speech(演讲) and left."

David's smile fell, along with his 8 . "I forgot! How could I miss him? I can't believe I missed the 9 part of school for the whole year." 

After this, David learned a lesson. He 10 not only look at the sky, but also come back to earth.
