What does it mean to be green? Green is more than just a color. It also means taking special steps to protect the environment. Buying a green product is a small step everyone can take. Deciding whether a product is green, however, isn't always easy. We need to consider the whole life cycle of the product even after it's of no use. Here is what we may keep in mind.

The materials of a product are usually our first focus (关注). What is it made of? Are there any harmful chemicals in it? Green products are made of more natural materials which are free from harmful chemicals, so they can be good for our physical health.

Packaging is important. How is a product packaged? Is it over packaged? We'd better choose glass, metal and paper packaging, as these can be reused or more easily recycled. We can also look for less packaging or even choose unbagged products whenever possible.

Location (地点) matters. Where was a product produced? Where are we buying it? Think about how much energy was used to get it to us. Try to choose local products. When it comes to food, it is a good idea to order directly from local farmer, shop at markets and buy fruits in season. Buying from stores near our houses is also a good choice, because we can go there without driving a car.

Look into what the company tells us about their products. It's easy to say that a product is "green" or "all natural" but the words may be too good to be true. So much of the information about a product should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, companies try to make us believe that their products are  environmentally responsible.

The greenest thing is certainly the one we don't buy. Things like food and clothing are necessary for life. But many others are not. Better than buying is choosing to leave an unnecessary product in the store and doing without. It sends a message to the producer, keeps money in our pockets, reduces (减 少) waste and keeps the planet healthy.

When I was a student in France，a local friend invited me to have lunch at her home. During the meal，I found all her family had their hands on the table，except me. Later I learned that it's impolite to put your hands under the table.

When I was a student in the UK，I went to a pub with two local friends. We all had a drink and I drank mine quickly. My friends still had half﹣full glasses so I bought another drink，just for myself. My friends said，"You can't do that. When in a pub in the UK，you should buy drinks for you and your friends. "I was so embarrassed（尴尬的）.

I spent a year studying in Germany. I was shocked the first time I went to a lecture（讲座）. At the end of the lecture，all the students started knocking on their desks. How strange!A student told me that in Germany，students don't clap their hands（拍手）to show they like something. They knock on their desks instead.

②Your values are taught to you by different influences that you grew up around and that every person has, your parents, friends, teachers and the society in which you live. Your values are to guide you throughout your life choices.

③I've come to have many values of my own, and my most important value is compassion. I began to know and feel it from a young age when I realized that I enjoy helping others. Growing older I did as many things as I could to help anyone in need, I didn't care what I got in return. I just enjoy the thought that someone needs me. I would babysit during the summer for my neighbors and didn't ask for pay in return. Makayla, my childhood best friend and I would volunteer to help the old people in the old people's home.

④Another main value that is important to me is politeness. When I walk through a door, I always tell myself to look around and see if anyone is near me. If not, I will continue through the door, but if someone is close behind, I prefer to wait a bit longer and hold the door open for them. I enjoy smiling at people and let them know that I care, even if I don't know them.

⑤Aristotle said, "You are what you repeatedly do. Excellence is not an event, it is a habit." Now I'm still being taught many values that will become a habit in the future. Although my main two that I talked about are so important to me, I still have many more values. These values will help me in deciding my future and point me in a positive direction.

 On December 4th,UNESCO(联合国教科文组织) added Spring Festival to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity(人类非物质文化遗产名录). This great honor shows that Spring Festival is becoming1 popular around the world.

 Spring Festival used to be celebrated mainly in China, by about one-fifth of the2 population. In recent years, a" Spring Festival fever"3 abroad. Celebrations, such as traditional dragon and lion dances and temple fairs,4 around the world. These events allow people from different cultural backgrounds 5 a taste of traditional Chinese culture. Now we can even see some foreigners post their vlogs online to show6 they spend Spring Festival with their Chinese friends. They say that the festival provides them with the joy of togetherness.

 Now as Spring Festival enters the List, its cultural meanings7 be seen by more people. As the most ancient and important festival in Chinese culture, Spring Festival is a time for family to get together 8 welcome the new year. Besides, its name" Spring Festival" shows the greetings and 9 of the spring season. Most importantly, the festival carries common human values, including peace, love, and a sound relationship10 man and nature.

① The Christmas party is over. The gifts are opened. The Christmas tree has finished its work. Every year, people around the world buy lots of trees for Christmas. In 2022, people in Americabought 20-30 million trees! But where do the trees go after the holiday?

② Many countries recycle(回收) the Christmas trees. For example, in Berlin, people take off toys from the trees and leave the trees on the streets. The trees will be sent to the power stations. Every year, Berlin recycles about 350, 000 trees. They can make electricity(电) for 500 families to use for a year. 

③ In New York. people always send their trees to parks. There, the trees are cut into small pieces. The wood pieces are used in gardens to keep the plants warm. 

④ In some countries, many Christmas trees are sent to zoos. Once a year, elephants in Austria get their favorite food. The trees taste sweet. 

⑤ The lives of Christmas trees are short, but they bring people so much happiness.
