Tim was reading a book at office. Someone knocked on the door. He opened the door.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}  .
"My name is Rebecca," said the lady. "You've got to help me!"
"Take it easy." {#blank#}2{#/blank#} "What happened?"
"My grandma died last month. She left all her money, about $1,000,000 to me. She told me she had saved the money in a bank.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} . "
"But yesterday when I went to the bank, I only got an envelope with nothing in it. he money is gone!"
Rebecca took the envelope out of her handbag and gave it to Tim.
Tim looked at it carefully under the light. It was just an envelope with two old stamps on it. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} 
“Don't worry, Rebecca," he said. "Your money is still here.”

    Mr. White lived in the country. One day, he bought a second-class train ticket and went to London to buy something. All the seats in the second-class carriages had been taken when Mr. White got on the train. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    Half an hour later, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} So he went into one of them and took an empty seat. The other four men seemed to be rich people because they all wore fine clothes. But just before the train started, a different kind of person jumped in and sat down.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} It was clear that he was very poor.

    Everyone in the carriage looked unhappy with the young man. Mr. White thought that he would not be the only person to pay more. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}If so, he was wrong. For when the train had traveled an hour, the door opened and the ticket-collector came into the carriage. Of course, Mr. White had to pay more money for his ticket. But to his great surprise, one by one each of the four men held out a second-class ticket. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} He was the only man who had the first-class ticket in the carriage.

    The Internet is generally(通常) considered to be the world that belongs to young people. But some old people in Shanghai don't think so. Recently, more than 8,000 people over 50 took part in a web page designing contest in Shanghai.

    The contest lasted for two months and attracted a lot of old people. Among them, the oldest is a 79-year-old retired (退休的) lady. She had learned web page designing for 4 months before attending the contest. She finally got an honorary ( 荣誉的) title of “The Most Senior Participant(参与者)”. About 30 other old people got different prizes such as “The Best Creative Work” and “The Best Fine Arts Work”. Their works' themes included science, technology, Olympics, personal life and so on.

    The organizers of the contest hoped to encourage more and more elderly people to learn more about the Internet world. And many of the participants felt they really got a lot from the contest. “Designing web page enriches my life and makes me feel much closer to the young people,” one participant said.

    The designing of web page is not an easy job. But that doesn't mean it is the patent(专利) of young people. In fact, as the saying goes: “It's never too old to learn.” As for the teenagers, perhaps they should know“It's never late to learn”, whether it is English, piano or others.

    You may know that more people drink coffee than tea around the world．And that, after oil, it is the second biggest traded commodity (商品)．You may also know that the drink comes from beans which are first roasted and then ground (研磨)．But what else do you know about this popular drink?

    It is said that the story of coffee started with an Ethiopian goatherd (牧羊人) named Kaldi．One day Kaldi was surprised to see that his goats were behaving very strangely．Instead of grazing (吃草) quietly, they were jumping around, almost dancing．He also noticed some red "cherries" from a plant that the goats were eating．He tried some himself and was surprised by the feeling of extreme happiness and excitement．He felt like dancing too !

    But it wasn't used as a drink at first．It was used as food．The coffee berries, mixed with animal fat, were used by monks to stay awake during long hours of prayer．From Ethiopia, coffee was later cultivated (培育) in Yemen and the first hot drink was developed there around AD 1000．Three centuries later Muslims were keen coffee drinkers and as Islam spread, so did coffee．Coffee houses appeared in Cairo and Mecca．

    For hundreds of years the plants were protected safely．But some beans were smuggled (偷运) out of Arabia and taken to India．In the 17th century, coffee was soon grown in a new continent．From India to Indonesia, a century later the beans were once again smuggled to Brazil．Brazil is now the largest coffee producer in the world．

    It was the caffeine that made the goats dance and kept the monks awake．Although it is found in other soft drinks and tea, coffee has the most caffeine．In the short term．a couple of cups of coffee can prevent fatigue and delay sleep．But several cups a day, every day, can cause anxiety and restlessness．

    That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in the city I lived. There I was, walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theatre. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked. I thought seriously about giving up both acting and the life in this awful place.

    As I walked down the empty street under tall buildings. I felt very small and cold.

    "Run!" I told myself and began to do so, both to keep warm and keep away from any possible danger.

    About a block from my flat. I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun, but the street was empty. The noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. I didn't realize what the noise had been until I reached my flat and unlocked the door. It had been my wallet falling to the street.

    I wasn't cold or tired any more. I ran out of the door and back to where I had heard the noise. Although I searched the street for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.

    Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard a rubbish truck stop next to me, A voice called from the inside, "Alisa Camacho?" I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name？The door opened and a man jumped out. "Is this what you're looking for?" he asked, holding up a small square shape.

    It was nearly 3 a. m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn't get much sleep that night. But I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life.
