    I had always considered acupuncture (针灸) old-fashioned. But the drama of my recent strange illness and recovery changed my mind {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (complete).

    Acupuncture originated in China 2,000 years ago. Essentially, it functions {#blank#}8{#/blank#} improving the smooth flow of life force energy, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (know) in Chinese as "qi". Although acupuncture may not cure all illnesses, at least it creates a good starting point for a healthy body.     When Mr. Wang, a Chinese calligraphy(书法)master and painter, invited me to his studio, I got extremely{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (delight) . What a treat!

    His apartment doubles as his studio, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he creates calligraphy works and paintings as well. The living room has a long desk with a collection of{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (brush) of varying sizes, two big ink pots and a pair of paper weights.

    Mr. Wang showed his latest work, a scroll(卷轴)of the Great Wall at Badaling {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (wind) its way along the steep hills, which {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (recognize) as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations in 1987. The beauty of the seven-meter-long scroll painting was beyond {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (describe).

    He told me someone had offered a large amount of money for the painting, but he refused {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(part) with it as he wanted to donate to the National Museum.

After that, Mr. Wang invited me to practice calligraphy, and it was the first time that I had {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(true) experienced the beauty of the line. It was then{#blank#}9{#/blank#} I noticed Mr. Wang appeared to have a healthy body. I wondered if practicing calligraphy kept him so fit. Whether that is true, one thing is certain; as Mr. Wang put{#blank#}10{#/blank#}, "Only do one thing and do it well—that's the secret to success"

    There was a young flower in the desert{#blank#}1{#/blank#}all was dry and sad looking... It was growing by itself,{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(enjoy) every day and saying to the sun, "{#blank#}3{#/blank#}shall I be grown up?" And the sun would say "Be{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(patience) ! Each time I touch you, you grow a little." She was so pleased,{#blank#}5{#/blank#}she would have a chance to bring beauty to this corner of sand. And this is all she wanted to do - bring a little bit of beauty to this world.

    {#blank#}6{#/blank#}one day the hunter came by and stepped on her. She was going to die and she felt so sad, not because she was{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(die), but because she would{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(ever) have a chance to bring a little bit of beauty to this corner of the desert.

    The great spirit saw her, and was listening. - Indeed, he said... She should be living... So he reached down and touched her -- and gave her{#blank#}9{#/blank#}second life.

    Finally she grew up to be a beautiful flower. And this corner of the desert also became so beautiful because{#blank#}10{#/blank#}the little flower.
