Several months ago, a couple with a little girl moved in next door to me. The girl seemed too quiet to make any noise, while the parents were always 1her loudly. Whenever we met my new neighbors, I always spoke, but the only 2 I ever got was a hello from the 4-year-old girl.

I usually go out for breakfast and one day when I returned, they were just coming from their home and the little girl was holding the door open for others. I stayed in the car doing unnecessary things as I wasn't in a 3. The parents were telling her to get into the car immediately. I looked up and saw the little girl was still holding the door open, waiting for me.

As a disabled man, I can't hurry at 4, but I hurried as much as I could and thanked her. She was smiling like a lovely angel. I was so 5 by her small act of kindness. That afternoon I was shopping and I saw a white bear. I thought of the girl and said to myself. "I believe she would like that" so I bought it.

The next day there was a knock on the door and it was the little girl and her parents. She was so 6of her bear and thanked me as if I had never been thanked before. The mother and father both thanked me.

Now when we meet, we all speak, and in a friendly manner I might add. As time passes, I don't hear that shouting as often.7, hardly at all.

Last night we had about four inches of snow. I looked out at my car and wondered 8 I was going to keep my doctor's appointment(约会). When I opened the outside door, there was my car with all the snow cleaned. I can't express how I felt at that moment. The man next door was the only person I knew in the whole building,9when I saw him the next day, I asked him if he was the good man that cleaned my snow. He said No. He wanted to but his wife said she wanted to do it.

Isn't it amazing that a 4-year-old girl can change so many things for the better? It is said that good things usually come from 10.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中选出最佳选项。

When I was walking back home at around 12:15 pm during my lunch break one day,an apple came flying toward me. It landed just before my feet. I was surprised and thought I was very lucky not to get hit by it.

The apple was thrown over the fence by a school student. I live opposite a school. A wall separates my apartment building from the school.

Thinking it was a one﹣off experience,I told my friends, and we laughed about it.

Then, the week after,I was walking along exactly the same spot at exactly the same time and bam!Another apple came over. This time it landed on the roof of a shed(棚屋)

"Is it my destiny(命运) to get hit by an apple?"

Last week I was walking back home. I checked my phone. It was 12:15 pm. I kept thinking about those two times before when I'd seen an apple thrown over the wall. But suddenly,my thoughts were interrupted by ANOTHER flying apple!This one was a big one. Only one bite(一口) had been taken out of it

Enough was enough. Someone could be really hurt by these apples. Did the student(s)not realize that people live across the wall?Or do they not care?

I told my friend about it. "You should just throw the apple back over the wall. That will teach them,"my friend suggested. But I don't want to play that "game". As they say,an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. Besides,I might end up hurting someone when I throw it back.

Maybe I'll call the school and let them know. The student(s)responsible need to know that they might end up hurting someone if they keep throwing their waste. What's more,waste belongs in the bin

One day, Jenny brought her only son Max to a restaurant. When they left, Max wanted to throw away half of the sandwich that he couldn't cat. But Jenny stopped him "Wait! You should never1 any food!" The boy replied in a loud voice, "But I'm too 2 now!" Jenny didn't say anything but took it into her hand. As they walked out of the restaurant, Max spilled (洒出) some 3 on his coat because of carelessness. Without thinking, he just took it off and wanted to throw it away again. Jenny came up4 and said, "We can wash the juice off the coat. And do you know someone is wishing to have a coat like that?" However, Max answered angrily, "I don't care!"

At this, Jenny was very surprised and decided to do5 . For a while, she turned to Max and said softly, "You know when you don't 6 what you have, there is someone else wishing for all that you have. "Max just kept in 7

On their way home, they saw an old man8 around the corner. Mother asked Max to give the piece of sandwich to him. 9 he was unhappy, he walked towards the old man and handed the sandwich. "I'm not sure whether you want this or not. It's just our leftovers (剩菜). " "Oh, my God! I can't tell you10 this means to me. I am so hungry now. " The old man thanked Max again and again for giving him food, which really made Max feel ashamed. Some 11 later, they met another old man with few clothes on him. This time, Max 12 before him without thinking twice and asked, "I wonder if this coat will help you. But there is a juice stain (污渍) on it. " The old man was so glad that he 13 the coat immediately and said, "Thanks so much. You don't know what this means to me. It is so14 these days. "

With his face turning red, Max went back to his mother and said, "Mum, I am so 15 . You're right. " And then he could see a big smile on his mum's face. Exactly, in life what you want to throw away may be the very thing someone does wish to have.

Konchog Rapten is ten years old. He is in the fifth grade. His school stands as the highest school in the town. It is in Nyingchi, Xizang autonomous region (自治区). It is about 4, 000 meters above sea level (海平面).

The school is now holding 397 students. Most of the students are from alpine pastoral regions (高寒牧区). Some of them live more than 50 kilometres away. As a result, most students choose to live at the school during the school year.

The school is filled with modern facilities (设施). It has indoor and outdoor basketball courts and two soccer fields. Every classroom has a smart touch-screen computer.

To make it easier for students to travel to/from school, the school has a special timetable. Students go to school for ten days and then enjoy a four-day break. For Konchog Rapten, this is perfect during the summer. It is when the family moves to the pasture (牧场). He helps his father with the animals and his mother with her work. "If there is no boarding (寄宿), it would be very difficult to do well in both school and daily life," the father says. He added that their summer pasture is about an hour's drive to school.

Every day, after washing up and having breakfast in the morning, Konchog Rapten begins his day of study with his classmates. They have all their breakfasts, lunches and dinners at school. They also enjoy snacks like bread, fruit and yogurt during breaks. After evening self-study classes, students go to bed before 10 p. m.
