One afternoon, four black youths walked into a restaurant that served “whites” only. They sat down and ordered bread and milk. The white waiter just said “We don't serve blacks”. The young men did not move. They were tired to death of segregation（种族分离） and of being kicked around. The manager was called. When he saw the angry look in their eyes, he said that he was sorry, but it was not possible to serve them.

    The next day, more young black people came, and even more came the day after to the restaurant. Then a gang of white youths came in and attacked them. Most of the blacks were beaten up and were black and blue all over. After that the police rushed in, the several people were put in prison—all of them were black, although they had not done anything wrong—just because they were black.

    The news spread quickly through the black living areas in the city. A large crowd held a meeting round the restaurant the following day, forcing(迫使) the restaurant to shut. Young men, black and white, made speeches protesting against segregation and pointing out that black people only wanted to live a life in the same way that whites did. They gave out leaflets and soon the movement spread to other cities. Business became so bad at that particular restaurant that the owners were forced to give and served blacks.

    Nowadays, all the blacks are served in all restaurants open to the public in America.

    Indonesia is my mother's homeland and one of my favorite countries. Since I was young, I had learned a lot about the country and become interested in it. For a long time I had wanted to do something for the country and people there, and I thought volunteering（做志愿者） would be a good and fun way to do so.

    I received the greatest pleasure from being with the children.

    Teaching my first English class in Aceh was exciting, but I was rather nervous. As time went by, I learned how to be a better teacher. Teaching was actually the most enjoyable of my many responsibilities(责任).

    Many children were shy at first. But when they relaxed, they would start talking and telling you a lot of funny things. I believed we were helping them build up their confidence.

    For the children who are more in need. The Education Program（TEP） will collect donations(募捐) to help them.

    As a volunteer, I had to visit the TEP children at home once a month and help them write a thank-you letter to their sponsors. This was a way for the children to communicate with their sponsors. Sometimes the sponsors would write back to the children. Seeing the children's happy faces, I had a great sense of pleasure.

Meiyu, born in 1991, is from Turkey(土耳其). She is the youngest child of her family. After high school, many people learned English or Japanese, but Meiyu decided to learn Chinese in university. She learned Chinese for four years in Ankara University in Turkey, and got her name Meiyu there.

Meiyu fell in love with Chinese after going to university. She became more interested after she knew more about Chinese history. In the beginning many people did not understand her decision. But they all said Meiyu had made a right choice when she graduated from university in 2013. Since then, more Chinese have been visiting Turkey. The trade between the two countries also requires Chinese-speaking people. ＂Speaking Chinese means more job opportunities.＂ said Meiyu.

Now Meiyu has been in Wuhan, China for about two years. Besides going on studying Chinese, she shows great interest in Chinese kung fu as well, so she spends her free time on kung fu training with her coaches. Not only can kung fu help improve her health, but she is also fascinated by the history and culture behind it. Meiyu said, ＂The more I know about China, the luckier I feel to have been here. But the truth is that fun and pain go together in the process of learning.＂

Meiyu will graduate in June this year. Her friends want her to stay in China, but her parents hope she can come back home. Meiyu thinks it is difficult to decide. ＂Even if I go back to Turkey, I will choose Chinese language education as my job,＂ said Meiyu.

When I was a child, I was shy, quiet and fat. And that made me never get on with any friends around me. Almost no one used to talk to me or invite me to parties. I always lived in my own world.

What was worse was that someone always bullied(欺负) me, even my closest"friend".One day after school, an older boy kept calling me"Fat Boy"all the way home on the bus. I was shy and afraid, and wanted to cry. At that time, I hoped my best friend sitting behind me might stand up to help me. However, he jumped up and also laughed at me. You must know how I was feeling then!

And later I became older and got to know what I should do. I started exercising more and eating less. And I kept working hard to get better grades at school. Just half a year later, I was much thinner and healthier. And I was a top student in our class too. Quickly, I became one of the most popular students at school.

Being fat isn't a crime (罪过). However, you can't stop other people from laughing at you. So you must do something to help yourself. Remember that only you can bring yourself hope and success.

One Sunday night，I was sitting in my kitchen half-listening as my 15-year-old son Tommy quarreled（争吵） with his younger brother Kevin. I didn't pay attention when Kevin went upstairs with a look of 1 on his face. 

About thirty minutes later，I heard Kevin 2 in his room. I knocked on the door immediately and asked，"Kevin，what's the 3 ？Why are you crying？"No answer. I tried again. Still 4 happened. So I took a piece of paper from a notebook and wrote，"If you don't want to 5 ，we can write down to each other. "and slipped（塞） it under the door. 

An hour later，I was still sitting on the floor 6 his door with a stack of（一摞） notes in my hands. As I read one of Kevin's notes，I couldn't7 crying. It said，"Nobody in this8 loves me. I am not the youngest or the oldest，and I am not the 9 to get good marks. Tommy thinks I am too weak. Dad thought I should be taller. 10 ，he always wants me to be a basketball player. And you 11 listen to me，even notice me. " 

He was 12 about my part. Feeling sorry for him，I wrote back，"Kevin，I do love you，and you are loved in this family. " 

He didn't reply for a while，but I could hear him crying 13 . Kevin ran out of paper，so he wrote"Thanks" on a paper cup. I wrote back"For what？" It was returned to me with the reply "14 " written on it. 

Since then，I have tried my best to care for my family. When one of us 15 that the other is unhappy，we'll smile and say，"Write it on a paper cup. "

My grandfather often said "I won't" to show his dislike of dishonesty. When he was young, he worked 1 a furniture (家具) maker. One day, a neighbor invited him to make some furniture. When arriving, he noticed the wood provided was a little 2 , so he said, "I won't start right away." He chose to let the wood dry for a 3 . He knew working with that wood could cause problems later on.

A month later, that furniture maker received his money and went back home. When the wood was 6 dry, my grandfather began to make strong and beautiful furniture. A few months passed and the furniture made by 7 began to break. The neighbor then realized he was wrong and 8 doubting my grandfather. At that moment, people started to understand his honesty and skill, spreading his fame far and wide. 

Influenced by my grandfather, my father also follows the saying "I won't". He always provides the freshest food, which makes his restaurant very 9 in town. Now, my brother and I keep in mind what our grandfather and father taught us. Through ups and downs in life, we've come to deeply understand our family 10 behind this saying—to be truthful and honest.
