Becky was in the bathroom. She was brushing her1 and the tap（水龙头）was on. "Turn that tap off. " a voice came out. Becky was scared. She looked around，but saw no one. "Turn off that tap. You are2 water!"

"Who. . . who are you?" Becky's voice was3 . 

"I'm a drop of water. Do you know4 I'm from?"

"From the tap，I think，" said Becky. 

"Yes. But a few days ago，I was in a cloud. Then I dropped into a river. The river carried me to a lake. Then I travelled to your city and it was time5 cleaned up. "

"Get cleaned up?" Becky asked. 

"Yes. I was6 during my journey，so they must clean me up. Then I travelled7 the pipes（水管） under the ground. I waited there8 you called me，and here I am. After you've finished with me，I'll go to a sewage plant（污水处理厂）. Then they'll push me into the river and I'll go 9 to the sea again. "

 "Again?"

 "Yes，So10 not to pollute me or waste me!"

Haili Smith, 16, says she and her sister, Brooke, "have very different tastes in books." Haili likes horror stories. Brooke, 13, prefers fantasy. What they share is the belief that kids are more likely to read if they are connected with a book's characters. That's why, in 2020, they started Books Like Me. The nonprofit group donates (捐赠) culturally different children's books to schools.

"We didn't really like reading a few years ago", Haili told TIME for Kids. "[Then] we started to look for books that had characters we saw ourselves in. It made us want to read more. We thought we could share that with students, because we knew that this wasn't something that changed us only."

Haili and Brooke started with an Amazon Wish List of books they liked. They shared the list on social media, asking for donations of these titles. Soon, they began receiving boxes of new books to give away to schools. As word about their organization has spread, requests have come in from schools nationwide. So far, Haili and Brooke have given away more than 16, 000 books.

Anitra Carter teaches fourth grade at a primary school in Florida. She says donations from Books Like Me have gotten her students more interested in reading. "It excites them when seeing a character that may represent (代表；象征) them or look similar to them," Carter says.

Over the years, Haili and Brooke have been invited to speak with educators about the importance of culturally diverse books. They've also taken books directly to students. At a book fair in Florida, "I was at a table showing kids the books and they were picking them out," Haili recalls. "They all looked so happy when they found a book that really resonated (共鸣) with them."

That, of course, is the goal. "I hope, and I think," Haili says, "that all kids should ____ so that they enjoy reading."

Queen: Did he say why?

Amram: He told us he saw some ants hurrying along in the sand of the road. He said he heard them say they were afraid that the horses would walk on them.

Queen: And that was why?

Amram: Yes, your Majesty. King Solomon turned off the road to save the little ants from being hurt ・

Queen: Then he must be as wise and as kind as people say he is ・

Amram: Now you can believe it, can't you?

Queen: I won't fully believe it until I see and hear him myself.

Amram: Then why don't you come to our country and pay him a visit, your Majesty?

Queen: Yes, I shall do that. You may go now, Amram.

On December 9th, 3:50 in the afternoon, many students in China watch TV. It is a very interesting science class from the space station(大空站). They all like it very much!

Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping, and Ye Guangfu are the three teachers. And Wang Yaping is the only woman teacher. She is great fun!

First, she says hello to all of the students. Then she lets the students have a look at their "rooms" in the space station. She gets an apple from the fridge（冰箱）．She says, "This apple is in the space station for a long time but it is really fresh. In her class, Wang Yaping helps the students to know much about water in space. She puts a ping-pong ball in the water. The ball doesn't go up but stays in the middle of the water. It is really interesting! Things in the space station are not the same as we know. Many students ask questions about space science. They are happy to help them.

Wang Yaping has a flower. It is from her daughter. She is only five now. She watches her mom in the space class, too! After one hour, the space science class finishes. Wang says, "All of you are flowers of China. One day you can come to space yourselves and find new things about space!"

Near Aunt Rabbit's house, there are five apple trees. She always asks her friends to eat her apples.

One day, a little monkey Jim comes. Aunt Rabbit says to him, "Little Monkey, come and have an apple!" Jim is so happy he likes apples very much. He goes up the trees and gets many apples down. He eats very fast. He thinks they're yummy.

The next day, Jim comes again( 又一次). "Aunt Rabbit, my grandpa is ill. He wants to eat some apples. Can you give me some?"

"Sure! There is a bag of apples. You can take it!" she says.

"Thank you!" Jim says happily. But after(在……之后) he leaves Aunt Rabbit's home, he eats all the apples.

After two days, Aunt Rabbit goes to ask for her bag. On the way, she finds some apple pits ( 核 ). "Jim cheats(欺骗) me!" She thinks. Then, she takes them to Jim's home.

After seeing them, Jim's face turns red and he says, "Sorry".

"That's OK. You are still(仍然) welcome to my home." says Aunt Rabbit happily.

On December 2, China Media Group introduced the official mascot for the 2025 Spring Festival Gala:"Si Shengsheng." This cheerful mascot brings good wishes to Chinese people around the world, hoping that everyone has a new year filled with health, happiness, and good luck.

 The mascot"Si Shengsheng"is inspired by Chinese traditional culture. Its design is based on the ancient character"已" from the oracle bone script(甲骨文), which represents the Year of the Snake. With a cute and classic look, it shows both modern charm and historical meaning.

 Connected to the gala's theme, "Si Si Ru Yi, Sheng Sheng Bu Xi"(Year of the Snake, Keep Your Spirits Awake), "Si Shengsheng" is full of good energy. The shape of its head and the spiral(螺旋) on its cheeks are inspired by the gilded silver Ruyi (鎏金银如意) from the Tang Dynasty found in Famen Temple, which symbolizes"happiness from beginning to end." The bat-shaped decoration on its head and the longevity knot(长寿结) on its tail add more wishes for prosperity and good luck. The mascot's eyebrows and eyes, inspired by a bronze snake-shaped artifact(青铜器) from the Sanxingdui Ruins, which shows the rich variety of Chinese culture. The back has woven branch patterns, symbolizing endless life, while flowers like magnolias(海棠花) and peonies(牡丹花) show the arrival of spring.

 The mascot's main color is bright green, symbolizing the new life of spring. Its color scheme(组合) includes traditional Chinese colors like parrot green, turquoise blue (青绿), lapis lazuli(青金石蓝), lotus white, and mandarin orange, mixing together to create a lively and festive mood.

 As"Si Shengsheng"is introduced, the 2025 Spring Festival Gala is getting closer. The mascot invites everyone to join this big celebration and welcome the Year of the Snake with joy and good fortune!
