At many Thanksgiving dinners, everyone around the table shares something they are thankful for. As we know, most can do this easily. It's more important to know how to be thankful people all the time.

    Be positive(乐观). No matter what happens, it's best to remember the good things. Find the bright side in bad situations, and push back against negative(负面的) opinions. Also, do your best not to compare yourself to others. But when you're around others, give expression to what you like about them. By keeping good in mind, you'll gibe thanks for it even more than before.

    Accept the negative. At the same time, we can't pay no attention to bad things that have happened. We should learn from mistakes. It makes us become strong. Before we know it, we're thankful for negative things, too. Our mistakes can also make us humble(谦逊的), which is not all bad. Humble people have better relationships and see life's blessings(祝福) much more clearly!

    Acts of kindness. Thankful people know that it's muh better to gibe than to receive. When you're thankful, you feel it's your duty to show love to others. Some people volunteer to help people in need. Studies show that volunteers might feel happier and healthier.

    Use of time. By spending time with others, you show them how much they mean to you. But being thankful is also better realized by spending time alone. When you're alone, you can think about the best parts of you day. You can list them out and think th em over. You can find your way to make thanksgiing a part of you life. How wonderful it is! Just enjoy it every day!

Some birthday customs（习惯） are quite similar（相似） in many parts of the world—- birthday candles, birthday games，and birthday cakes. But some customs are more special to some countries. Here are some children talking about their customs.

Linda—I am fourteen. I come from Aruba. In our country, children take something special to school for their classmates and all teachers. Every teacher gives the birthday child a small present like a pencil, an eraser or a postcard. The birthday child doesn't need to wear special uniform(校服). He or she can wear family clothes.

Lucy—I am one year older than Linda. Denmark（丹麦） is my country. We hung a flag(旗帜) outside a window to show that someone in that house is having a birthday. Presents are placed around the child's bed while they are sleeping so they will see them at once when they wake up.

Tom—I am as old as Linda. I am from Brazil(巴西). The birthday child receives a pull on the earlobe(耳垂) for each year in my country. The birthday person also gives the first slice of cake to his most special friend or relative, usually mom or dad.

    Xie Wanying (October 5, 1900-Febrary 28.1999), better known by her pen name Bing Xin, was oneof the most well-known Chinese writers of the 20^th century. Many ofher works were written for young readers. Her pen nameBing Xin carries the meaning of a pure heart, and is taken from a line in aTang Dynasty poem by Wang Changling.

    Bing Xin was born in Fuzhou, Fujian, but moved toShanghai with her family when she was seven months old, and later moved yetagain to the coastal port city of Yantai, Shandong, when she was four.Such a move had akey influence on Bing Xin's personality and philosophy (哲学)of love and beauty, as the hugeness and beauty of the sea greatly opened youngBing Xin's mind and heart. It was also in Yantai, Bing Xin first began to readthe classics of Chinese literature, such asRomance of the Three KingdomsandWater Margin, when she was just seven.

    In 1913, Bing Xin moved to Beijing. She started herwriting career as she wrote for a school newspaper at Yanjing University whereshe was a student and published her first novel. Bing Xin graduated fromYanjing University in 1923 with a bachelor's degree, and went to the UnitedStates to study at Wellesley College, earning a master's degree at Wellesley inliterature in 1926. She then returned to Yanjing University to teach until1936.

    In 1929, she married Wu Wenzao, her good friend whenthey were studying in the United States. In literature, Bing Xin founded the"Bing Xin Style" as a new literary style. Shecontributed a lot to children's literature in China such asA Myriad ofStars (1923),Spring Water (1923),Six-one sister(1924),ToYoung Readers (1926),Homeward South (1931),The Collected Worksof Bing Xin(1932-1933). Bing Xin's literary career was productive. Shewrote a lot of works — prose, poetry, novels, reflections and so on. There is aBing Xin Literature Museum in Changle in Fujian Province. The Bing XinChildren's Literature Award is named in her honour.

I'm Cameron Davis. I'm 13 and I've visited 45 countries. I have been travelling for as long as I can remember.

Before we left on our first trip, I was very nervous. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(在……期间) the trip, I noticed that if I didn't talk to others, I couldn't make any friends. On my travels I have tried a lot of new things, from {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(高山) biking in Whistle r to camel {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(骑行) near the Great Pyramid of Giza! When you travel to certain places, you start to learn about the different {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(文化). I learned to cook Pad Thai in Thailand, ate curries in India, and tried dumplings in China. I learned that food was great in different countries. My trips also {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (教) me how to become more independent. When we {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(计划) to travel, I always had to pack my own suitcase. Also, when we weretraveling I saw a lot of families that really had to depend on each other to live. Now we wash {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(餐具),make our own lunch and more. I don't love these chores but we have learned that this family is like four gears(齿轮); if one stops

The {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(最好的) thing that I've learned about traveling is that sometimes you will have to take risks. When I was in Vietnam,I was playing with a little boy when out of the blue, he bit me. I still have the mark!I learned that there are {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(都) good and bad risks. Take the good ones.

19-year-old Peng Huidi is a student of Central South University. For her, taking part in the Chengdu FISU World University Games in 2023 was a life-changing experience.

In fact, Peng's journey to the games began in her early childhood. When she was two, she got hearing problems as a result of a high fever. She became quiet and was afraid of speaking to others. To help Peng, her father took her to the nearest swimming pool. It was there that Peng found her interest and her talent was discovered by a coach. Later, she spent much time training.

Peng wanted to do her best in both swimming and schoolwork, which stressed her out. She once thought about quitting, but she told herself, "If I stop swimming, my future will be completely different from what I've dreamed of." So she kept practicing swimming hard.

The Chengdu FISU World University Games has been a turning point for Peng. After making it through several qualifying rounds (资格赛)，she was called up to the Chinese swimming team for the games. "I remember the first day she joined the team. None of us knew she couldn't hear clearly. We were amazed at not only her performance, but also her sporting spirit," the coach said. "She has overcome (克服）so many difficulties to compete at this level. We should all learn from her."
