Lake Street School Big Day Out!

Dear Parents,

    We are happy to have our summer trip to the Children Movie Museum and the Sports Park on Thursday, July 11th (Grade Seven) and Friday, July 12th (Grade Eight). Students can learn lots of very interesting things about the cinema and how movies are made. They will also learn about many sports and their rules.

    We have this trip for the students to learn outside the classroom and also have a good time with friends. Students need to take a pen and a notebook with them because they have to take notes about what they see. They also need to wear their school uniforms and sports shoes. Please tell them to follow the rules in the museum and the park.

    We will be eating lunch at the dining hall of the park. The cost of the trip is 40 yuan. It is for the bus ride and the lunch.

Bullet comments (弹幕) are a new form of comments (评论) which move across the screen while a video is playing in recent years. It's not only a way of communication but also serves as a bridge connecting people in the digital age. However, different people have different opinions about it. 

My father is lucky. He falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow. However, my mother is not so lucky. Sleep usually takes longer to come, counting sheep may be the answer. With their` eyes closed, people picture a line of white sheép. Then, they count as each sheep jump over a· fence.

This method is as old as time. Some people believe it comes from the Islamic culture. While others believe it started with shepherds in old Britain. They couldn't get to sleep at night because they were worried about all of the sheep in the field. So they would calm themselves by counting the sheep up to make sure they were all safe.

A team of scientists at Oxford University sarried out a study on counting sheep. They aimed to see if the method really worked. They put 41 people with sleep problems in three groups. The first group went to sleep in their normal ways. And group two needed to imagine peaceful scenes like waterfalls to help them fall asleep. The last group counted sheep.

The scientists got some interesting results. The people in the second group got to sleep around 20 minutes faster than usual. However, those in the last group took longer than usual to fall asleep. I he scientists believed counting sheep made the people feel nervous. As a result, they had more difficulty falling asleep. So, it looks like counting sheep may not be the answer for people with sleep problems.

When falling asleep, it is likely to be more helpful to make the mind filled with something relaxing rather than active." You have to keep record of those sheep. It takes a lot of work to count them all up." said Michael Decker, Ph. D, you can try taking a bath to help fall asleep. You can also think about a quiet beach or a walk in the woods."^

 It's said that about 4% of people sleepwalk(梦游) at night during their lives. That is, you or some of your families and friends have done so. Sleepwalking happens while one is sleeping. Sleepwalkers walk slowly around the house, say something and then go back to sleep. Their eyes are usually open and look right at you as if they were awake. The next day, they remember nothing when they are asked about what happened the night before.

 Sleepwalking is a common problem for many children from 4 to 12 years old. It could run in family. If one of the parents is a sleepwalker, their children may be, too. Scientists still don't know why people sleepwalk, but they find common facts that may lead to sleepwalking. For example, if one is under stress, gets sick or doesn't have enough sleep, he or she will have more chances to sleepwalk. Sleepwalking itself isn't bad, but it may make sleepwalkers get hurt because they are in fact"sleeping" and don't know what they are doing. It is important to keep sleepwalkers from falling down, running into something and even walking out to drive.

 What can we do for sleepwalkers? First, try not to wake up a sleepwalker because it may make him or her scared. All you have to do is to show the sleepwalker the way back to bed. Second, close the windows and doors to stop sleepwalkers from going out. Third, keep any things that may hurt the sleepwalkers away. Remember, if you find someone sleepwalking, the most important thing is to make sure he or she is safe.
