    Every culture has set rules about how people should act. Patterns of good behavior, or manners, show respect and care for others. Yet the details of how to express respect vary.

    Greeting people cheerfully is almost always considered polite. But it's more important in some cultures than others. For example, when you enter a store in France, you should always greet the person working there. Other cultures also value greeting people. But of course the greetings vary as people speak different languages.

    When I was growing up in the United States, I once participated in a performance at my church. Afterward, someone gave me a compliment, but I felt like I had done a bad job. So I tried to refuse the compliment, saying, "No, I didn't do that well." My mother got my attention and told me that was very rude. Later I learned that refusing a compliment is accepted and even approved of in China.

    Some of the biggest cultural differences have to do with table manners. In North America, it's polite to eat as quietly as possible. That means chewing with your mouth closed and not slurping(吃东西时发出的声音)your soup. The same goes for burping(打嗝). But in parts of Asia slurping shows that you are enjoying your meal. And burping is a sign of being full and content.

    There are also differences in how people eat across cultures. For example, in North America and Europe people use forks to bring food to their mouths. But in Thailand, a fork is only used to push food onto a spoon. In India and the Middle East, people eat with their hands. But eating with the left hand is forbidden. This is because the left hand is considered unclean.

    Yet there are also similar points across cultures. Saying "please" and "thank you", for example, is almost always polite. If you show appreciation and try to follow local customs, people will generally respond well. Showing kindness can bring people together, no matter what culture they come from.

    Do you ever notice the music playing when you enter a store? No? Often it is very difficult to point out. It is similar to the music you listen to, but it is not the same. The music played in stores is changed to be more relaxing and to give you more mental energy. This style of music is called “elevator music.”

    Elevator music is also referred to as Muzak. Muzak is very commonly listened to in the USA. About 1/3 of Americans will listen to Muzak for about 15 minutes a day in order to relax themselves. The music is played and contains short pauses. The most common time to hear elevator music played is between ten and eleven in the morning, and three to four in the afternoon. This is when most people are the most tired and could use the extra energy.

    Elevator music is often played in public places because it is designed to make people feel less lonely and refreshes their brain. It has been proven that Muzak does what it is supposed to do. Studies have shown that tired office workers have more energy when Muzak is played in the background of the office. In addition, factory workers produce 13% more and shoppers buy 38% more groceries in a supermarket when listening to Muzak.

Some people do not like Muzak. They say it's boring to hear the same songs all the time, but other people enjoy hearing Muzak in public places. They say it helps them relax and feel calm. Often you may recognize the songs being played. That is because many of the songs have been bought from the musicians or songwriters. Some of them do not like their music to be used for Muzak but others are happy when their songs are chosen. The top musicians that allow their music to turn into Muzak music can make up to 4 million US dollars a year. One way to another, Muzak affects everyone.

    Are you working with your computer routinely either as an office employee or a game lover? Are your eyes dry, watery, blurry, seeing double or sensitive to light? If your answer is a "yes", you are likely one of many people today who suffer from digital eyestrain, also called computer-vision syndrome. What on earth is this syndrome coming from? What can we do to deal with this problem?

    Eyestrain is often related to the amount of exposure to screens, the distance from eyes to screens and the use of multiple screens simultaneously. However, studies have also shown that the blue light produced by digital devices today reaches further into the eyes than other kinds of light. This light actually assists attention during the day but can result in interrupted sleep patterns at night.

    Years of scientific researches indicate that eyestrain isn't necessarily an unavoidable problem for those who deal with computer work in the daily base. There are ways you can adopt which can overcome the problem considerably. To begin with, your computer screen should be high-resolution (高分辨率), at least 50 centimeters wide diagonally and may require a screen filter to decrease reflections. Also, be aware that "computer glasses", which cut down glare and blue light,are available.

    Besides, to reduce your risk for computer-vision syndrome, take frequent breaks during your computer workday. Many workers take only two 15-minute breaks from their computer throughout their day. According to a recent study, eyestrain are significantly reduced when computer workers take four additional five-minute "mini-breaks" throughout their workday. Finally, many of us fall into bad habits while using digital screens, which only worsen the effects of eyestrain. While viewing digital screens, many people blink (眨眼) one third less often than they usually do. Place a reminder on your computer to "blink" so that your eyes don't dry out.

    Sadness and depression?

    Sadness is normal human emotion that everyone experiences at some time. A number of events can leave people feeling sad or unhappy, such as the loss or absence of a loved one, divorce, loss of job or income, financial trouble, issues at home, or social anxiety.

    Failing an exam, not getting a job, or other disappointing events can also trigger sadness.

    However, a person who is sad can usually find some relief from crying, venting, or talking out frustrations. This is because sadness is more likely to be linked to a specific trigger.

    Sadness usually passes with time. If it does not pass, or if the person become unable to function normally, this could be a sign of depression. If symptoms worsen or last longer than 2 weeks, the person should talk to their doctor.

    Depression is a mental disorder that affects every part of a person's feelings and perception. It affects behaviors and attitudes and can affect people of any gender or age.

    In 2015 around 16.1 million people aged 18 years or above in the U. S. had experienced at least one major depressive episode in the last year. This represented 6.7 percent of all American adults. Symptoms include feelings of discouragement, sadness, hopelessness, a lack of motivation, and a loss of interest in activities that are normally enjoyable. In severe cases, the person may think about or attempt suicide.

    The person may no longer feel like spending time with family or friends. They may stop pursuing their hobbies and feel unable to go to work or school.

    Daily habits may change unexpectedly and without reason. A person with depression may find it difficult to continue doing the things they normally enjoy.

    If these feelings of doubt last more than 2 weeks, a health-care professional may diagnose the person with major depressive disorder (MDD).

    Unlike sadness, depression can leave a person struggling to express their feelings. If the person tries to release the stress, the overpowering feelings and negative thoughts can prevent them from building themselves up again.
