Here are some accidents which often happen to children:

◆ Scalds (烫伤) — Small children don't understand that hot water and hot drinks can be dangerous. It only takes a cup of tea or coffee, or a bath that's very hot to scald a child badly.

◆ Falls— Children of all ages fall and hurt themselves from time to time. For babies, the danger is rolling off the edge (从边缘滚下来) of something like beds, chairs or tables. It's very easy for babies of two to four to fall off a piece of furniture, down the stairs, out of a window or off a balcony (阳台).

◆ Burns— Many children die in house fires and more are badly burnt. A cigarette (香烟) can easily start a fire. A child can also be burnt by a hot iron or matches.

◆ Cuts— Glass causes the most serious cuts. So keep away from broken bottles, doors or windows.

(1) Small children don't understand:

◆ Hot water and drinks are not {#blank#}1{#/blank#} for them.

(2) What often happen to children and babies?

◆ Children of all ages may fall and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} themselves again and again.

◆ For babies of two to four, they can fall off furniture, stairs and so on {#blank#}3{#/blank#}.

(3) Why are many children easily burnt?

◆ Because a cigarette can easily {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a house fire.

◆ A hot iron or {#blank#}5{#/blank#} can make kids burnt.

 阅读下面短文,掌握大意,然后从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出一个最佳选项。

"OK, everyone, it' s time for the Challenge Game," called Coach Nicki. "At first, let' s have a1 . I' ll call out a player's name. That player 2 a teammate to challenge," said Coach Nicki. "Both players shoot ongoal(球门). If you score, you' re done. If you miss, you return to the sideline and 3 another challenge."

Terrible,I thought, because I had heard about it but 4 played it.

"Lina, you' re up," he said. Lina chose to challenge Tori, the top player on our5 . Tori dribbled(运球) her ball to the field. Hers went in. But Lina' s6 a lot.

"Isabel, you' re up," said Coach Nicki.

"I challenge Lina," Isabel said. Lina smiled and dribbled out on the field 7 Isabel. They both took their shots. Lina' s ball was closer than before but still missed.

One by one, my teammates all picked Lina. Lina's shots got better but still missed. If I kept missing, I'd probably cry. But she didn't look8 !

"Marta!" Coach Nicki called on me. " 9 should I choose to challenge?" I considered.

"Lina," I heard myself say. Lina gave me a big smile.

10 , both of our shots hit the crossbar(门框) and went into the goal.

At the end of the practice, Coach Nicki 11 us all together. "Remember, you' ll miss every shot if you don't take, so be brave out there."

At the game, I got the ball in front of the net. I was close enough to shoot,12 I couldn't move. Suddenly, I remembered how13 Lina was at the Challenge Game. I passed it to her.

14 took a shot and passed the goalkeeper! We were up, 1-0.

"Nice shot, Lina!" I called. "You' re a great player," she said to me. "Take a 15 in the next half."

As we ran off the field, I promised myself I'd accept Lina's challenge.
