Many people in the USA love sports. Some people like playing sports but some people always want{#blank#}1{#/blank#}  them on TV.

    At school, students play sports with their {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  They always have a good time. From June to{#blank#}3{#/blank#} , they go swimming and play basketball.

    Mike likes playing volleyball but he doesn't like swimming. In {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  free time, he usually plays volleyball with his friends. Andy and Simon love playing football but they don't like swimming. They{#blank#}5{#/blank#}  in the school soccer club and play soccer every afternoon.

    Millie and Sandy like playing baseball. It is a {#blank#}6{#/blank#}  sport for them. They are good players {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  win(赢得)many baseball games. Millie's best friend, Lily, is a good ping-pong player. She{#blank#}8{#/blank#} ping-pong is an easy game. But her friends all say it is difficult. They can't play it{#blank#}9{#/blank#}. Lily wants to teach them to play ping-pong. She is happy to play {#blank#}10{#/blank#} them. She wants to be a ping-pong player like many great players in China.

One Thursday afternoon, when I was in Grade 7, a new boy came into my classroom. He was short and thin. He walked up to the teacher and told her, very seriously, that he was new. His name was Christian. He sat down, took a look at me, and then looked away. I didn't think he was very nice and I was sure he wasn't the type I would like to become friends with.

During that year, I didn't talk to him much, but he smiled at me when our eyes met, always shyly. He never ate lunch with anybody, and he never talked to anybody but me.

But one day I joined those unkind kids who were making fun of him. We made fun of him though I thought it was wrong. 

"Haven't you got any friends? " a kid asked Christian, who had walked past us alone, head down.  "No, he hasn't got any friends. He's too stupid and shy. " I said. Then Christian looked up at me with the saddest dog eyes I had ever seen. I felt very sorry at that moment.

That night, I couldn't sleep because I couldn't get Christian's face out of my mind. In the weeks that followed, he never met my eyes in class and never smiled at me. It was really hard for me to decide to write him a note asking him to forgive（原谅）me. But I thought I should. 

The next day in class, I wrote him a note telling him how sorry I felt. About five minutes later, I turned and saw tears in his eyes. "You will never realize (意识到) what your apology（道歉）has meant to me, Jimmy, "he said to me. "I hope we can become friends. "

We had lunch together that noon and we had the best talk I had ever had. Over the years at high school, we were close friends.

When I think back, I realize that, if I had not apologized, I would never have known what a lovely person Christian was.

Apologies can really change your life, so never miss the chance to tell somebody you are sorry.

On the first day of school, Socrates told his students, "Today, we'll only learn one thing, that is to stretch(伸展)your 1 , then try to swing them backward." He showed them and as a 2 , all the students laughed. "Sir, is it necessary to learn this?"one of the students laughed.

"Of course," Socrates replied 3 . "You think this is a simple thing, but it is very difficult." Hearing this, the students 4 even harder.

Without being a bit 5 , Socrates said, "In this class, I'll teach you how to learn this action well. Then after the class, from today on, you will do it 100 times a 6 ."

Ten days later, Socrates asked, "Who still 7 to swinging his arms?" About 80% of the students raised their hands. Twenty days later, Socrates asked, "Who still insists(坚持)on swinging his arms?" About 50% of the students 8 their hands. Three months later, Socrates asked, "Who still insists on that 9 action of swinging?" This time, only one student raised his 10 . He was Plato.

Perseverance(坚持不懈)is the simplest yet the most difficult thing in the world, because everyone can do it but not everyone will do it. Only the one who can stick the simple thing out may make it.
