Howard is kind of heavy. He doesn't like sports, and he can't play chess 1 the piano. But Howard wants to be healthy and 2 some friends.He knows the school soccer 3 needs some boys. Howard doesn't play soccer, but he 4 watches it on TV."It seems not too 5 to learn it."He says to himself and decides to have a try. He has three weeks to prepare for the tryout(选拔赛).

In the following 6 weeks, Howard watches soccer 7 on TV for two hours every day. He buys a 8 and plays it after school. He asks his classmates to play 9 him. He asks his dad to 10 him, too. His dad plays it well and helps him a lot. Howard feels like he is a 11 soccer player! He goes to the tryout confidently(自信地).

In the picture, a girl is standing on a bamboo pole (竹竿) on the river and dancing beautifully. It's not a scene from a movie, but a form of intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产)—bamboo drifting (独竹漂).

Yang Liu, 24, is an inheritor (传承人) of bamboo drifting. She started to lean it from her grandmother when she was 7. As she was weak in health as a child, her grandmother wanted her to become stronger through this sport. Yang threw herself into practicing bamboo drifting all year round, even in the winter cold and the summer heat. "It was common for me to fall into the water when I started practicing," recalled Yang. It took her three years to learn the basic skills of bamboo drifting. In order to learn more bamboo drifting skills,Yang had to practise so many difficult movements on a bamboo pole that was 9 m in length and 15 cm in diameter (直径). Through years of hard training,Yang now considers the bamboo pole as her "best friend".

At one point, encouraged by her grandmother,Yang began to combine (结合) dance with bamboo drifting. "My grandmother came up with an idea. She said that I had been practicing bamboo drifting since I was a child, so why not try to combine dance with the skill? It might be something different." the young woman said. Yang's hard work gradually paid off when she was able to perfectly perform dancing with the traditional bamboo drifting skills. "I hope that more people can know about bamboo drifting and enjoy this form of art," said Yang.

During the National Day holiday of 2023, I had an unforgettable trip to Beijing. My family and I watched the flag-raising ceremony(升旗仪式) in Tian'anmen Square (广场).

That was a 1 important moment for us Chinese. It was 2 for us to get up very early because the ceremony started at sunrise(日出). 3 spent three days getting a chance(机会) to watch the ceremony. On the first day, 4 we got up at 5 a. m, we still missed the ceremony. The following day, we got up a little bit 5 in the morning. But when we got to the square, the street was already so 6 that we couldn't move. At last we could not get closer to the ceremony. So on the 7 day, we got up at around 3: 30 a. m. When we 8 the Tian'an Men Square,t he ceremony began. One hour later, we had a close and 9 view(看) of the flag raising ceremony. Seeing it gave me a sense of pride(自豪) and it really 10 my heart.

I was lucky to see it in Beijing because most people could only see that on TV. I am proud of being a Chinese student, and I hope our country will be stronger and stronger.
