Confucius（孔子）was one of the most important people in human history.He taught people to be polite and love each other.His ideas changed people's life.

Early Life

Confucius was born around 551 B.C.in China.That was over 2，500 years ago.Some say that Confucius was born into a rich family.Others say he was born poor.One thing is clear：Confucius lived during a time of great trouble.

Philosophy（哲学）and Teachings

Different groups in China were fighting.People forgot about good manners（礼仪）.This made Confucius sad.He wanted people to be kind and polite to each other.He believed in the idea of"ren".That means "loving others"."People should follow the Golden Rule，"he said.The Golden Rule is"to treat others as you would like to be treated".He believed that a good leader should treat his followers with care.This would help the leader set a good example.Confucius thought leaders could make people follow the law（法律）

Confucius promoted（提倡）music education.He thought music had a strong influence on people and believed that music could make the things on the earth get on well with each other.

So music made it possible for our society to develop well.

Death

Confucius died at the age of 71 or 72.After his death，he was honored as a man of wisdom.His ideas helped shape the Chinese government.Today he is known as one of the most important teachers in Chinese history.

A few years ago, I learned that the city food bank needed some help. After hearing the news, I thought about setting up a group that would {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(志愿) to make and serve dinner for the {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(有残疾的) people who are {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(失明的),{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (聋的), dumb(不能说话的)…I used to be the organizer among my friends. So, I made a {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(决定) to send {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(信) among ten of my friends to invite them to be part of the group. To my {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(惊讶), almost all of them agreed to join.

One day, one of my friends brought some food and helped prepare the meal."I got such a {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(强烈的) {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (感觉) of satisfaction when I saw the disabled people get the food!"said one friend. Later, a friend made a list about serving to make sure that we could do {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (很快地) and easily. Now each month, there are new members to join the group. One woman even invited a group of her friends to join in serving. It's hard to {#blank#}11{#/blank#} (想象) that simple letters asking friends for help have made such a great {#blank#}12{#/blank#}(不同). At first, I simply wanted to {#blank#}13{#/blank#}(创建) up a meaningful group.Now,I {#blank#}14{#/blank#}(改变) my idea. I also love to volunteer, because I can find {#blank#}15{#/blank#}(愉快) through helping people in need.

Anna wants to become a top guitarist (吉他演奏家) in the future (将来). She began to play the guitar two years ago when she saw her father play it at home. "I love the guitar, so I always play it at home. When I found she was also interested in it, I began to teach her," said her father. Soon Anna was good at playing it. Then she began to take guitar lessons in Band School every Saturday to learn more from musicians there.

Anna studied hard at Band School, and soon she could take part in (参加) the school's concert. Anna was the youngest player. Most students felt nervous when they took part in the concert for the first time, but Anna didn't. She was very relaxed, and she gave a really fantastic performance (表演).

Many people see her performance online, and Anna is becoming famous in her town now. "Boys usually like playing the guitar, but very few girls choose it. I hope more girls can play it in the future," said Anna. Anna's father bought her a new guitar last month and she plans to start a band herself later this year.

This year I celebrated an unusual festival in my classmate Li Mei's home. It's the Longtaitou Festival. The festival is always on the second day of the second lunar month（农历月) every year. It shows the start of spring and farming. People celebrate the Longtaitou Festival in different ways. The most famous tradition is getting a haircut（理发）. Some people think that it can bring them good luck.

Li Mei treated me to some fried beans（炒豆）and pancakes. Fried beans are the traditional festival fare for them. During the meal, she told some other special food for the festival. People in Suzhou enjoy chengyao cakes（撑腰糕）. As an old saying goes," If you eat chengyao cakes at the Longtaitou Festival, your waist won't hurt all year." More interestingly, some foods are named after the loong body parts to mark（庆祝）the day. Wontons are the loong's eyes (longyan), noodles are the loong's beard (longxu) and spring pancakes are the loong's scales (longlin).

We spent a happy Longtaitou Festival together. Laughter and joy filled the whole house. To me, it was more than a festival, but a lesson about Chinese culture.

A husband and wife moved to a new apartment. The apartment had a beautiful view(景色) of the neighboring building. Every 1 , the wife would look out of the window to see what was happening in the neighborhood.
