Chinese students thank their teachers on September 10th, Teachers' Day. How do American students thank their teachers?

First of all, US schools thank their teachers the whole first week in May. Their special Teachers' Day falls on the Tuesday of that week. During the week, the school will have special parties and give teachers gifts. There are "Thank you" signs everywhere to thank teachers.

US students give small gifts to their teachers to let them know how great they are. It could be a simple gift like a thank-you card with a personal message. US teachers love it because they think it's meaningful. They like it even more when students say "thank you" directly (直接地) to them. US teachers like getting arts and crafts (手工艺品) from children best. Little things to decorate (装饰) their classroom are also common gifts in the US. This could be a small plant.

It doesn't take much to celebrate a Teachers' Day. But students shouldn't just wait until Teachers' Day. 他们应该一直都感谢他们的老师。

Recently videos of a man dancing have become popular online. He is Ma Jiaolong, a Chinese dancer. Ma has nearly 5 million followers on Douyin, a short﹣ video platform（平台）in China. "I was surprised because I didn't think that the videos would go viral. " says the 35﹣year﹣old dancer. 

Ma began teaching Chinese classical （古典的） dance at Goldsmiths, University of London, three years ago. He started making videos when his teaching job was affected（受影响） by COVID﹣19. Like many other teachers, Ma had to give online classes. Besides teaching, he trained at home for at least two hours a day. However, Ma couldn't make big moves because his home was small. One day, Ma and his wife went to a supermarket and passed Greenwich Park. Ma's wife said to him, "Why not do some dance moves here that you couldn't do at home？" Then Ma jumped off the ground and did a dance move, which was filmed by his wife on her phone. 

"Back home, I sent the video to my friends. To my surprise, they loved it and I decided to share it online, " says Ma. Later, he made more short videos and put them online. 

After Ma's videos got popular, he got lots of messages from people around the world. "Now, making and sharing short videos has become a part of my life. Most importantly, it's a great way to show Chinese classical dance to more people. " says Ma. "It's always been my dream to offer people worldwide a chance to understand traditional Chinese culture. " Ma says. 

A Special Day

 One day when I was seven years old, I went to a park with my parents and sisters. We played on the grass and sat on the see-saw(跷跷板). It was a wonderful day. 

 Now, as a parent, I often think of how my words and actions might influence my children. Something ordinary might just become a special memory for them. 

 Last year, when my son turned four, we had a special day. In the morning, we drove to the train station and bought two tickets. We stood on the platform, enjoyed the sunshine and watched the trains come and go. Soon afterwards, we caught our train. We took two window seats and watched houses, bikers and cars whiz by(呼啸而过). 

 After getting off the train, we walked to a restaurant. We sat, looked through the menu and asked each other what we would like to eat. We waited patiently for our food and tried everything we had ordered. The foods were all our favorite. 

 Then, we walked around the city center. We visited a toy shop and ended up buying a train. After all, it was the little man's birthday. We also enjoyed some hot chocolate at a coffee shop. Finally, we made our way back to the train station and returned home. 

 Every so often, my son will look at me with dreamy eyes and ask, "Mama, when can we have a special day again?"

 Sometimes, we go to a park; sometimes, we try out a new restaurant. We don't do this too often, or it won't be special. But we don't do it too rarely, either, or we might forget how much we both love having them. 

This year a new TV program called Young at Heart came out in the UK. The program matched teenagers with old people, and asked them to meet twice a week for two months. Two of these pairs were Amelia Ross and Mary Edwards.

Mary is a 76-year-old retired(退休的) nurse. She lives by herself. She likes meeting new people and keeping healthy, so she goes to dancing classes twice a week. Amelia is a 14-year-old student. She loves music and wants to be a singer. In her free time, she likes talking with her friends on her phone and playing her guitar. She doesn't like sports.

Before Mary met Amelia, she didn't like teenagers very much. She thought they spent too much time on their phones. As for Amelia, she thought that old people were boring and strict.

When they met for the TV program, Mary was surprised that Amelia didn't do any exercise, so she invited her to a dancing class and prepared her a dancing dress. Amelia didn't really want to go, but she had a great time. Mary is really outgoing and they laughed a lot together. 

Later Amelia found out that Mary had a mobile phone but didn't know how to use it. It was still in the box! Amelia showed her how to watch videos and listen to music online. Mary didn't like the same songs as Amelia, but she enjoyed finding out new music styles. In one episode(集) of the program, she asked Amelia to sing for her. Amelia was a bit shy, but she agreed. Mary loved her voice and said she should join in the school talent show. Amelia followed this advice. It was a good idea because she won first prize! 

By the end of the program, Amelia and Mary were good friends. Amelia still goes to the dancing classes and Mary is an expert with her phone now. They say they plan to meet every week in the future.

 Have you ever decided what you want to do when you were a little child? Sounds impossible, but I did it.

 When I was in third grade, I watched a special video. I still1 the video, because the details(细节) of the video 2 influenced me. And since then,I have known what I wanted to do with 3 life.

 As a result, I4 what I wanted to be at nine, and I made it happen. Seems easy, right? Not quite! The road was difficult. I did my studies--university, then a PhD.5 along the way I was told many things: I was too young. wasn't qualified(具备资格). I should get married and have6 . I also needed money so I asked for six grants(拨款): The first7 replies I got said no. Six months later, the last reply came. This time it was yes.8 , I could start my own research.

 Today,I'm 9 to work as an archeologist(考古学家). That makes me have a sense of pride. I study the lives of people who lived in ancient Egypt. It's an exciting 10 . The feeling of holding a piece of history is an amazing feeling. I feel rather 11 .

 For anyone thinking about his 12 , I would say: Never give up. If you want to do something, keep trying. If people say"no" to you, don't give up, and use that- - it will 13 you. At the beginning, it hurts. But the next no hurts a little less. It makes you 14 and actually helps you. Second, focus on your dreams. You don't have to follow 15 . If they say something has never been done, make it happen.
