Green Energy for Today and Tomorrow

Did you know that most of the energy we use comes from the sun? For example, the sun helps plants to grow. Plants that grew millions of years ago turned into coal, oil, and natural gas（天然气）. We call these fossil fuels（化石燃料）.

However, fossil fuels cause pollution. This is bad for the Earth. Fossil fuels are also nonrenewable. Some day they will be gone. So, scientists want people to use green energy.

Why is green energy important? First, it is clean. It doesn't hurt the Earth. Next, it is renewable. It won't run out. Green energy gives us almost 25% of the electricity we use today.

What are the main sources（来源） of green energy?

Water Power

Water power uses moving water in rivers and dams（堤坝）. Moving water has energy. Water power makes 

16.6% of the electricity we use.

Wind Power

Is wind power new? No, it isn't. People used wind power many years ago. Wind power makes 4% of the electricity we use.

Solar Power

Solar power comes from sunlight. The sun shines on solar panels（太阳能电池板）, and electricity is made. Solar power is now as cheap as some fossil fuels. It makes 

1.5% of the electricity we use.

Biomass energy（生物质能）

Biomass energy is energy that we get from plants around us. For example, dead wood or grass is burned in power stations. This makes electricity. Biomass energy is green energy because we plant new trees or crops（庄稼） after we use it. Biomass energy makes 2% of the electricity we use.

New Green Energy

The ocean rises and falls each day. This moving water can make electricity. We call it tide power. There is also heat under the Earth's surface. Scientists can use this heat for energy, which is called heat power. We may find other sources of green energy in the future.

Some day, green energy could make 100% of the electricity we use. That's good news for the Earth!

Chinese New Year is a great celebration. It usually {#blank#}1{#/blank#} from the first day of the first lunar month to the 15^th day. Chinese New Year {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the end of winter and beginning of spring. According to tradition, people give flowers and fruits to each other. Orchids (兰花) , especially purple and red, mean love and beauty. Peonies (牡丹) , the king of flowers, are {#blank#}3{#/blank#} as the symbol of wealth. Kumquats (金橘) , golden in color, have the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} meaning. . The apple, with its bright color and round {#blank#}5{#/blank#}， stands for peace and togetherness: All these things make excellent gifts during the festival season. 

In England, people often talk about the{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(天气) because they can experience very different {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(温度) in one day. In the morning, the weather is warm just{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(像) in spring. An hour later, black {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (云) come and then it rains heavily. The weather gets a little cold. In the late afternoon the sky will be {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(晴朗的). The sun will begin to shine and it will be summer at this time of a day. 

In England, people can also have {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(夏天) in winter, or the other way round (相反). So in winter they can swim sometimes while they need to wear {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(暖和的) clothes in August sometimes. 

When you go to England, you will see that some English people usually take an {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(雨伞) or a raincoat with them in the fine morning. It may make you {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(感觉) strange. But there will probably be a {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(阵雨) later in the day. 

 Robots often appear in books and films. Usually, they can think, listen, talk and walk easily on two legs, just like humans.

 Although real robots are becoming more and more complex (复杂的) , they are still not like fictional (科幻的) robots. In life, robots come in different shapes and sizes. They can be tall, short, thin or fat. Some robots have long legs and are able to walk. Others move on wheels. They can be very simple or they can be very complex.

 Many robots look like humans, and some of them can even speak. But in fact, they are different from us in lots of ways. They cannot see, hear or think by themselves. They cannot laugh or cry because they have no feelings. Someone has to build them and decide what things they will be able to do.

Robots make our life easier. They don't mind doing dirty or difficult jobs, and can work for long hours without getting tired or bored. Some robots work in very dangerous places--under the sea or in space.

 Scientists are making better robots all the time. One day every home will probably have its own robots to tidy bedrooms, do the dishes or do other things. Do you believe so?
