1. Do you yawn (打哈欠)? There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning after research. They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning. 

2. We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too. 

3. Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that? In 2007, scientists found that a yawn can help a warm brain cool down. 

4. Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you are young, you breathe deeply. You also stretch (强化) the muscles (肌肉) in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums (耳膜) stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things. 

5. In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. When they breathe out, they think that bad things go out of the body with the air. 

6. Scientists do not spend much time studying yawning. That is probably because yawning does not hurt. It is just something we do. 

The singer and actress Eartha Kitt was born into a poor family in South Carolina in1927. When Eartha was eight, her stepfather（继父）didn't want Eartha to live with them. She was sent to New York City to live with an aunt. The relationship was difficult. The aunt helped pay for piano and dance lessons for Eartha. But she also treated the girl badly.

Eartha lived on the streets and worked in a factory as a young teenager. But she kept up her dance lessons. One day, she decided to try out for a famous African-American dance company called the Katherine Dunham Company. Soon, Eartha was performing in shows around the world with the company.

In Paris, Eartha left the dance company to sing in a nightclub. Her voice was unusual. People there liked her singing. She learned French quickly and had many French fans.

The film director Orson Welles discovered Eartha singing in Paris. He called her "the most exciting woman in the world". Welles asked her to play a lead part in a play that he was directing（执导）and also playing a part in. Later, Eartha returned to NewYork and appeared in the Broadway show New Faces of 1952. A humorous song she sang about a bored, spoiled woman became famous. Eartha appeared in the 1957 movie The Mark of the Hawk. She was very careful about choosing her roles in films. Her other films in the 1950s included St. Louis Blues and Anna Lucasta. Throughout the rest of the 1950s and early 1960s, Kitt recorded, worked in films, television, and nightclubs, and returned to the Broadway stage. In 1964, Kitt helped open the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, California. In the late 1960s, she played "Catwoman" in the television series Batman. This role made her really famous.

Liu proves herself again

 Who is the best female(女性的) table tennis player in China? It is probably Liu Shiwen. Liu Shiwen was born on April 12, 1991 in Fushun, Liaoning. Her hobbies are watching US TV shows and learning English. Her best table tennis skill is backhand(反手击球) instead of forehand.

 On Oct 20th, Liu won her fifth singles title(单打冠军) at the Women's World Cup in Chengdu, Sichuan province. She is the first person in history to win so many titles at this event.

" It's very important for me," Liu said. "I won four titles before when I was much younger. I had no fear at all."

 At 28 years old, Liu is now under greater pressure. She won the world championship(世界锦标赛), but then lost several tour matches (巡回赛). She needed to prove herself once again. She was able to do so in the end. Her secret was to not think about her losses."I just played the game like it was the world championships or even the Olympics," Liu said.

Mr. King was the manager (经理) of a hotel. One weekend all the hotels in the city were full because there was an important meeting. On Friday night, three men came into the hotel and asked for rooms. Mr. King said there were no rooms ready because of the meeting. The men were unhappy.

Mr. King wanted to help them. He remembered that Room 418, a very small room, was empty. He asked them if they would share a room. The three men said they would. Mr. King said the room would be thirty dollars: ten for each one. Each man gave him the money and then went up to the room.

Mr. King soon began to feel sorry. "Thirty dollars is a lot to ask as price for that small room," he thought. He called his assistant(服务员) over and said, "Here is five dollars. Take it to the men in Room 418. I asked too much for their room. "

The assistant took the money. While he was on the way there, he started to think, "How can three men divide（分）five dollars? I'll give them each only one dollar and keep the two dollars for myself. The men will be happy to get something back, and Mr. King will never know. " So the assistant returned one dollar to each man.

Each man had at first paid ten dollars. After the assistant returned them one dollar each, each had paid nine. There were three men, $ 9 ×3 = $ 27. The assistant kept $ 2. $ 27 + $ 2 = $ 29. Where is the missing dollar?

①Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa and the second largest freshwater lake in the world. Lake Victoria not only is beautiful but also provides a source(源头) of water, food and power for several African countries. However, the lake has been polluted seriously. People there worry about the problem and take action to protect it. James Kateeba is one of them.

②James Kateeba lives in Uganda, a country next to Lake Victoria. His job is to show tourists around Uganda. He found that during the rainy season, there is a lot of plastic waste floating(漂浮) on Lake Victoria. It not only pollutes the environment but also influences the local fishing industry(工业). 

③James Kateeba wanted to do something for Lake Victoria. Mr. Kateeba watched some fishermen building boats. Suddenly, he came up with an idea. He decided to make his own boat. And his boat is not like traditional wooden boats. His boat is made of recycled things, and it became a recycling project later.

④In 2007, James asked fishermen to collect plastic bottles for some money. They tied the bottles to nets(网) to make a special boat that could float on the water. Mr. Kateeba put soil over the bottles and built a garden. Then he added the board. Tourists like his boat for its rich plants, food and drinks. Today, the boat, marketed(营销) as the Floating Island, can comfortably serve 100 visitors at a time.

⑤Mr. Kateeba isn't the only one who wants to clean up. Local environmental workers also offered money to fishermen to collect all the bottles they caught in their nets.
