Usually I wouldn't cross the park at this time of night. But walking around the park would take more time, and it was raining so hard that I couldn't even see clearly what was right before me. So I entered the park. And that was the first stupid thing I did tonight. 

Soon after I walked into the park, I saw a man under a tree up ahead. My heart fell. The stories I'd heard about the park were all coming into my head at this moment. Anyone with a clear mind would just turn back. But me? No. I did another stupid thing: I decided to hurry past him. 

Just when I was passing the man, he raised his head and gave me the strangest smile ever. I got scared and started running. "Hey!"the man shouted from behind. "Wait! "He was running after me! 

I ran like crazy. I had hoped the trees would keep some rain off. And they did. But they also madethe park look even darker. I couldn't see what was ahead of me. Then, I ran into something. It was the man! 

"Don't kill me!"I cried. 

"What? I was trying to give back your bag! You dropped it."The man gave me my bag. 

Now, I felt saying that to the man was the stupidest thing I did tonight. 

Every child has a dream of what he or she wants to be, right? When Alice Butts was little, her dream was to become a firewoman because her father was a fireman. Sadly, when she was 14, her father passed away. But Alice didn't end there. She had a strong will and never gave up. At last, she became a good firewoman.

I think she's great. She's always glad to do anything for anyone in need. With 140 people in her station, Alice is one of the only three women. What's more, she's always glad to help others.

What Alice did helps me believe that I can do anything. I hope just to be like her some day: To wake up and help people every day.

Eric has a new baseball hat. It is from his sister Kate. The hat is purple and it is beautiful. Eric loves it. He wears(戴) it every week. When he doesn't wear it, he always puts it on his desk. This morning Eric wants(想要) to go and play baseball with his friends. He wants to wear the hat, but the hat is not on the desk. Where is it? Eric looks for it under the sofa, under the chair, in the schoolbag, just everywhere.

"Do you see my hat？" Eric asks his family. No one sees it.

Eric is sad. Because his hat is lost. At that time, his dog Huanhuan comes. And the hat is on his head! He loves the hat, too.

Eric is very happy. He gets the hat and leaves home.

It was Sunday. Tom went to the City Stadium for a basketball match. Tom was worried because there was a traffic jam and he might be late for the match. He got off the bus and ran as fast as he could. He {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the team shirt and his number was eleven. 

Tom was not a player in the match, but a fan. He retired (退役) last year and went back home. This time he had a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to watch a match of his former (以前的) teammates in his home town. He was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to meet them again. After running for over twenty minutes, he arrived at the stadium on time. His former teammates played {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a stronger team, but they did better. Finally they won the match. Tom {#blank#}5{#/blank#} for them loudly. After the match, Tom waited at the gate of the stadium so that he could meet his old friends as soon as they came out. It was an exciting day. 

"How dare your!" My anger finally burst out when my son refused to go to the piano classes for the third time that day. He rolled his eyes at me, which made me even 1 . I completely lost my temper and screamed at the top of my lungs. "Enough! You are not my 2 anymore!" He didn't cry or 3 to me. He responded in silence with a look of helplessness that I had never seen before. He used to cry violently and beg me to 4 him. The innocence shining in his big eyes would 5 that hot-tempered beast in me away in the end.6 , this time...

 Did what he had done really make me angry? No. Did such 7 come totally from his improper(不合适的) behavior? No. Had I ever given it a chance to listen to and 8 him? No. My demanding job, my9 housework, my kid's cry for company..., all formed a minefield(布雷区) and all that was needed to blow it up was a fuse(导火索). My son was the victim(受害者).

 The rest of the day, he 10 an outdoor walk, a ride in the park and even his favorite games and just wanted to be alone. I could11 the greatest sorrow and the truest innocence in his eyes. After admitting(承认) my own fault,I held this tiny trembling(发抖的) creature 12 in my arms, tears swelling in my eyes.

 For those who believe"Sticks and stones may break the bone, but words can never hurt anyone",I have a piece of heartfelt13 . Do not try this most powerful weapon(武器)14 the people you love. It is15 enough to cut the deepest into a soul.

 It just hadn't been a very good week. On Tuesday, Sam's father lost his job. Then on Wednesday, Sam mother got to know the cost of their apartment(公寓) was going up. Now it was Friday, and Sam receive( an invitation from Rosa to her birthday party.

 Sam knew Rosa from Adventure Club. He knew he would enjoy Rosa's party, but he didn't want to g without a gift. What could he possibly buy her with the little bit of money he had? Sam knew he couldn ask Mom or Dad for any money— not this week!

 Later that afternoon, Sam noticed a second-hand book sale going on. He went there and had a quic look. Two books caught his eye, The first was a cookbook of Puerto Rican foods, and the second was book about women explorers(探险者)"Rosa would like these," Sam thought, "but would it be ashamed to give her second-hand books for her birthday?"

 Sam decided that a second-hand gift was better than no gift at all. Besides, Rosa supported recycling in a big way. So, she would probably like it. With his last dollar, Sam bought the books and went home. He felt a little better.

 The party was on Saturday. Rosa opened all her gifts and thanked everyone for the nice things they had given her. She paused when she opened Sam's gift, which made him wonder if she liked the books, but nothing was said.

 When Sam got home, he opened his e-mail and found this note from Rosa.

Dear Sam,

Of all the gifts I received today, yours was the nicest. How did you know I would love a book about women explorers and a cookbook of Puerto Rican foods? Now I have something to read that will inspire me to follow my dream of becoming an adventurer, and I have a book that I can share with my grandmother. She is getting older and wants to be sure her granddaughter knows how to make the - wonderful foods of Puerto Rico. Thank you so much.
