"Mom, I'm bored," said Jason. "There is nothing to do." "You can clean your room," said Mom. "That's not fun." It was only the second week of summer vacation. It was still too chilly to go to the pool, and Jason was tired of watching TV. His friends went on a trip, and even his dog, Riley, was being lazy.

    Mom was getting ready to go downtown to the food kitchen to help out. She volunteered three times a week serving lunch to people that weren't as lucky as Jason. "Why don't you come with me to the food kitchen and help out?" Mom asked. "I don't know anything about working at a food kitchen," said Jason. "You just watch me, and then you will see how to serve the food," said Mom.

    It was time to go, and Jason was excited to try working in the food kitchen. He watched his mom put some chicken on a plate and some mashed potatoes. She then passed the plate to the next lady, and she put some green beans and bread on the plate. "I can do that," thought Jason. One of the volunteers left early, so Jason took his place in the serving line. He was in charge of putting salad on the plates. He served twenty-five people that day. After the kitchen closed, Jason and his mom stayed to clean up. "That was great!" said Jason.

    Jason was so excited and really enjoyed his day at the food kitchen. He couldn't wait to get home and tell his dad about how much fun he had. "Not only did it give me something to do, but I felt so good doing it," Jason told his dad. "Jason, that was nice thing you did today," said Dad. "You helped many people who aren't as lucky as you to have a hot meal," Mom said. "I am so proud of you, Jason! You worked very hard.

    Jason went to bed that night thinking about the food kitchen. "I am going to help out again," he thought. Jason made some new friends, and he didn't even know they lived so close to him in town! The best part was how good Jason felt inside.

    John and Jack met at the old bench every afternoon. Then they played football. But they didn't have enough money to buy a real football. So Jack made a ball out of old socks covered with a piece of plastic, Every time, the two friends didn't stop kicking and running until very late.

    On Monday afternoon, John and Jack met again at the old bench. Soon the home-made ball was running across the grass. The boys laughed and shouted happily. The ball was stopped by a boy wearing a nice pair of sports shoes. John was upset when he saw the boy was Steven.

    The next morning, John's mother gave him a bill." Your uncle sent you a birthday present, she smiled. John's eyes grew big when he saw the $100 bill. Later that day，his mother bought a new pair of sports shoes and a real football.

    That afternoon Steven invited John to play football. Steven did not want Jack to join them only because Jack's sports shoes were dirty. When the game was over, John and Steven walked past the old bench where Jack was sitting. Steven picked up a stone and threw it at him. John, holding his new football in his hands, walked on and did not look back.

    Several days later. As John walked. Past the old bench, he saw something lying under it. He looked closer and saw it was the home made ball, John was full of sadness when he saw the ball. As his sadness turned to anger, he picked up his new football and kicked it into the air. Then he walked to the bench, sat down and waited.

Anne is a newspaper reporter. She chose this 1 so she could travel around the world. The work has taught her many 2 lessons. She has seen wars, earthquakes and death. But she has also seen courage, 3 and happiness.

Last year, she won an award(奖) for her reporting in Africa. She was very proud 4 it. At first, she thought she got the 5 because of her good work. But then she realised that she should thank many other people for 6 help.

Anne was born in Jamaica. Her family was not poor, but it was not 7 either. Her parents had to 8 hard so that she could go to school. At school, Anne was not a good student, 9 she enjoyed writing. Because her English teacher always said, "Anne, you are a

wonderful 10 ." The teacher 11 her all the time.

Later, Anne went to university in Canada and then 12 a job. It was very difficult. Then, one day, she went to see a 13 of a newspaper in Ottawa. The director gave her a job. "Everyone needs a 14 at first," he said.

Anne was very 15 and accepted the job.

 Our school is very big. There are two classroom buildings and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} office building. In front of the office building, you can see a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} garden. There are many {#blank#}3{#/blank#} and some grass. Look at that building. It {#blank#}4{#/blank#} like a book. That is the library. There are lots of books in the library {#blank#}5{#/blank#} we can read books there. We like {#blank#}6{#/blank#} sports on the playground. There are 45 students in my class. Mr Green is {#blank#}7{#/blank#} English teacher. He comes{#blank#}8{#/blank#} London. He likes China and always learns about {#blank#}9{#/blank#} history and culture(文化). We {#blank#}10{#/blank#} like him very much.

Sam was a little worried because he would have an art class the following morning. It was his favourite class, but there was a 1 . Sam saw the world a little differently from everybody else. When he drew, 2 had different-sized wings(翅膀), and buildings had strange shapes. Every time he painted a picture, his teachers 3 classmates would be surprised. 

It was time for the art class. Nervously, Sam looked at the white piece of paper 4 him. 

"Good morning, class, " said Mr White. "Today, we're going to paint . . . "

Sam 5 , wondering(想知道) what the next word would be. "Please, " he thought, "not houses, not buildings . . . "

"We're going to paint 6 , " said Mr White, with a smile. "Yes! Great!" said Sam 7 . 

"No!" Mike 8 loudly from the other side of the classroom. "We can't paint that!"

"Sure, you can. Believe in 9 , " replied Mr White patiently. "Think about it, Mike. What makes you happy?"

"Umm . . . beaches, sunshine, and . . . ice cream!" said Mike. 

"Well, there you go. That's how you paint it. 10 working!" said Mr White. 

Sam was already 11 . He splashed(泼洒) a lot of paint all over the 12 . It was really 13 ! There were some shapes that we didn't have in the real world and the colours were so shining. The whole class cheered and Sam looked so 14 . 

From that day on, Sam was never 15 about the art class. He knew that no matter(无论) what he painted, they could be happiness. 

He enjoys painting and will keep painting.
