Henry worked on a ship, doing tricks (魔术). Each week he showed the same tricks over and over again, because the passengers on the ship were different. There was also a parrot on the ship. It saw the shows so many times that it understood everything. Then it started shouting during the show:

"Hey, he has put the flowers under the table!"

"All the cards are the same."

"Look carefully. It's a different hat!"

Henry was very angry but could do nothing.

One day the ship had an accident and broke into pieces. Henry fell into the water. When he climbed up onto a piece of wood, he found the parrot there. He looked at the parrot angrily and did not say a word. This went on for one day, then another and another. In the end, the parrot said, "Oh, how I wish I hadn't said anything during the shows. Please tell me where you've put the ship and I won\t open my mouth again!"

When I was walking down the street one day, I found a small bag on the ground. I picked it up and opened it to see if I could find out the owner's name. There was nothing inside it except some dollars and an old photo— a picture of a woman and a young girl about twelve years old. I put the photo back and took the bag to the police station. Before I left, the policeman wrote down my name and address. He thought the owner might want to thank me.
That evening I went to have dinner with my aunt and uncle. They had also asked a young woman to have dinner with us. Her face was familiar, but I couldn't remember where I had seen her. During our talk, the young woman happened to say that she had lost her bag that afternoon. At once I remembered where I had seen her. She was the young girl in the photo, though she was now much older. She was very surprised, of course, when I told her about the bag.
After dinner we went to the police station and she got back her bag. The policeman said to me, “It's a wonderful thing. You not only found the bag, but also the owner of the bag.”

Mrs. Thompson came to the 5th grade class and noticed that Teddy was always alone. Also, he did badly in his studies. When she reviewed Teddy's past records，she find he was a good child at first，but he began to change when his mother got ill. Finally he lost interest in school after his mother's death.
Mrs.Thompson realized the problem and felt sorry for him. She felt even worse when her students brought her beautifully-covered Christmas presents. His presents were covered with some old paper. Some children laughed when she found a bracelet(手镯)with some of the stones missing, and a bottle with a little perfume(香水). But she said how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some perfume on her hand. Teddy stayed after school for a long time just to say，“Mrs.Thompson，today you smelled just like my mom used to.” After the child left，she cried for quite a long time.
On that very day，she taught not only knowledge but also children. As she worked with Teddy，his mind seemed to come alive. By the end of the year，Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class.
A year later，Teddy left school. She found a note under her door，from Teddy，saying that she was the best teacher he ever had in his life. After that, these words were repeated in each of his letters to her.
Then after he finished college, Teddy wrote telling her that he had met a pretty girl and was going to get married. He explained that his father was dead，and that he wondered if Mrs.Thompson might sit at the wedding in the place for the mother of the groom(新郎).
Of course，Mrs.Thompson did. She wore the bracelet and the perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas together.
They hugged(拥抱)each other，and Teddy whispered in Mrs.Thompson's ear，“Thank you，Mrs.Thompson，for making me feel important，and showing me that I could make a difference. ”
Mrs.Thompson，with tears in her eyes，whispered back，“Teddy，it's not like that. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met you.”

    “What are you doing?” Greg asked. “I thought this game would be more fun.” said Michael. “We can play it together.”

Alisa was walking around the swimming pool. Her friend Maria was waiting for her. "Come on, Alisa!" Maria said. "Let's jump off the diving board (跳水版)."

"No way! I can never go that high," said Alisa.

"Don't be scared," Maria said. "It's really fun."

Alisa walked away and sat on a bench.

"You go. I'll watch you," said Alisa.

"You don't know what you're missing," said Maria. Then she climbed up the tall ladder (梯子). It made Alisa scared just thinking of being up there.

Maria jumped off the board and then climbed out of the pool. She walled to Alisa. "Come on, Alisa; just try it. It's wonderful!" she said.

Alisa looked up at the board. Maybe it was time to try something new. OK, she said. Alisa climbed up the ladder for the diving board. The water looked far, far away. She wanted to turn back to climb down the ladder， but that would be too embarrassing. There was only one thing to do.

Alisa walked to the edge (边缘) of the board. Then she closed (闭上) her eyes and jumped. She got into the water in no time. "Wow, so wonderful! I like it!" she shouted.
