Dancing is popular all over the world. People dance in theaters, in parks or in their own living room. But Yang Liu, a woman in Guizhou, dances in an unusual place. Her stage is a single bamboo pole. 

Yang is a performer of bamboo drifting (独竹漂). It is a traditional skill in the girl's hometown. In ancient times, the local people crossed the rivers by riding on a bamboo pole. Now, bamboo drifting has developed into a folk sport.

Yang started to learn bamboo drifting at the age of seven. The bamboo pole is very slippery and it never completely stops moving. Yang fell into the water again and again. But the girl didn't want to give up. She always got back up on the pole and tried again. She practiced hard every day for three years. Finally, she was able to keep her balance on the pole. 

But Yang didn't just stop there. She wanted to live out her dream of becoming a dancer on a bamboo pole. The girl practiced many difficult movements on the pole. She failed countless times, but she never stopped trying. 

Her hard work finally paid off. Now 26, Yang has made a name for herself as a dancer on a bamboo pole. People can't believe their eyes whenever they watch her performances. Through Yang's dances, many people now know about bamboo drifting. They have discovered the beauty of this traditional skill.

Many months ago, I made a(n) 1 to myself. I put some money in my wallet, and planned to give the money to the person in need.

 When my daily life got busy, I didn't 2 my word. But today, when walking on a busy street, I passed an old lady. She couldn't see anything. She reached her hand out on the corner(角落). I remembered the money in my wallet. I took out the money and put it into her hand 3 and slowly. I closed her fingers over the money 4 she could feel the money and understand my action.

 The lady nodded(点头) her head a little bit. I felt like I achieved something. I kept my promise to myself. What a small but 5 action!

There are many different kinds of clubs in {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(we) school such as the music club, the chess club{#blank#}2{#/blank#} the sports club. The sports club is the most popular. In the sports club, we can do many different sports such as {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(swim), skating, and playing basketball and volleyball. Most students like playing basketball best of all the ball games. It{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(make) us healthy. And lots of boys would like to be good basketball{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(player). Some girls also think playing basketball is very interesting. There are many girls in the basketball team and they work hard and play {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(good). 

The music club is popular as well. Students can play {#blank#}7{#/blank#} piano, the guitar and many other instruments. My best friend Liu Lu {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(be) in the club. She is really good at the Chinese zither (古筝). And she is good at dancing. She's really great. Members {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the music club always perform in school activities. Do you want {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(join) them?

The past Chinese diver (跳水运动员) Guo Jingjing appeared at the Paris Olympics this summer, but this time, she was there in a new role - as the chief referee (裁判长). 

Born in 1981, Guo Jingjing started diving at the age of 7. She practiced hard and quickly became very good at it. In 1993, she joined China's national diving team. Guo got hurt many times, but she never gave up. She got the title of world champion (冠军) 31 times in all. She also won 4 Olympic gold medals. 

Guo stopped diving at the age of 30, but she still wanted to do something for China's diving team. She decided to become a referee. After years of hard work, she finally made it. When she appeared at the Paris Olympics, everyone was excited. "I will try my best to make sure that the diving competitions are fair (公平的)" she said. Guo Jingjing would like to help others as long as she has time. She once helped poor children in villages go to school and live a better life. 

In short, Guo Jingjing is a very special person. She sets a great example for young people who want to be divers or just want to work hard at something they love.

My English teacher, Elaine, is like a big sister to us, who always cares for her students. Once I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (遭受) from menstrual cramps (痛经), but I couldn't find my water{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (瓶子). She showed up like an angel and brought it to me with hot water in it. I was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (深深地) moved and my pain was gone. From Elaine, I also learned I should care for others as much as possible. 

I was not very good at math. Although I worked hard, I often {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (未能够；失败) to get a satisfactory (令人满意的) score. Seeing my frustration (沮丧), my math teacher Ms Gu did everything to encourage me. One day when I opened my exercise book, I was{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (惊讶的；意外的) to find that there were some words next to the mark. "Believe in yourself and keep trying!" Tears welled up (涌上) in my eyes. 

From that day on, I have {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (收到) many little notes from Ms Gu. Thanks to her love and encouragement, my math grades have improved. And I am more positive and confident now, even in the face of difficulties. 

Ms Shentu was my Chinese teacher in primary school. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (在……期间) her free time, she would chat with students like friends. I still remember once we had a wonderful experience on a snowy day. When the class was struggling (努力) with final exam preparation, instead of pushing us to study, Ms Shentu {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (设法完成) to make some spare time from our busy schedule and let us play in the snow for a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (全部的；整体的) lesson! Throwing snowballs and making snowmen, the students were filled with joy. Those joyful {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (回忆) will always remain vivid (生动的) in my mind. 

 Billy always loved blueberries. They were his favorite fruit. Today he was going to make juice with his uncle. His uncle liked to make juice out of everything. He made carrot juice, apple juice, vegetable juice, and more juices. He had never made blueberry juice before though!

 First, Billy and his uncle went to a blueberry farm. They were each given a basket. They picked for an hour and got several pounds. It was hard work picking the little berries from the trees. Now Billy understood why they were expensive in the store. 

 Next, they had to wash the fruit. Some of them still had leaves. Those had to be pulled off. Then the bad berries had to be thrown away. They washed the berries and made them air-dry. 

 After that, they pushed the blueberries through a strainer (过滤器). The strainer caught most of the seeds and skins, and only left a small glass of dark purple juice to them. 

 When they tasted the juice, it wasn't very sweet. Billy's uncle didn't want to add white sugar (糖) to the juice. It was better to use a naturally sweet juice, like apple juice, pear juice, or grape juice. They use grape juice as a sweetener, because grapes had a similar color to the blueberries. 

 Finally, they could drink it. It was a lot of work to make juice, but it sure was refreshing!
