E. Help teach English to those poor kids

    ⑴We are living in a world full of competition. Parents compete with others in their offices, our brothers and sisters compete with others in their colleges, and we compete with our classmates in schools. Most of us give up facing competition and will never be successful. Why can't we do better than others? One important reason is that we have no self﹣confidence.

    ⑵事实上，人人生而平等。You can do what others do. Your classmates may be better than you in some ways, but you may be better than them in other subjects. So everyone has his or her advantages.

    ⑶Don't look at things from a single point of view. Try to discover your own advantages, and believe that you can do better than others in those ways.

    Competition is not so terrible. ⑷不要害怕那些比你更优秀的同学。

    ⑸Remember that self﹣confidence is the first step to success. Believe in yourselves, and you will be successful in any competition.

Just In Time

    "Come on, Sasha," my father shouted. "Put the book down and get your clarinet(竖笛). We have to leave now if you don't want to miss the class."

    A clarinet class? I thought to myself. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Yes, I would like to miss the class. "Coming"{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. I got out of the bed and picked up my clarinet and rushed to the car.

    My dad started the engine and we drove off. "Hope you have a wonderful class," my dad said. "In my dream," I spoke very quietly. "Not again," my dad said angrily.

    I look out of the window{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. "Car traffic", I said under my breath with a big smile. This is my lucky day because I am going to miss the class.

    While we were waiting for the cars to start driving again, I was sitting in my car seat, singing a song. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. What's important is that I was going to miss the class. "Great! Ten minutes passed," I said excitedly. My dad looked at me angrily. The car started to move.

    "Finally," my dad took a deep breath. We got there and I had only missed a few minutes of the class.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

    "Just in time, Sasha. I was thinking you might be getting worried that you were going to miss the class," my teacher made a joke on me –knowing well that I hate the clarinet class！

    Car Free Day encourages drivers to give up their cars for a day to protect the environment. People from around the world get together in the streets to remind the world that we don't have to; accept the society full of cars. It started from France in 1998. Because of the air and noise pollution, some French young people wanted a day without cars. On September 22nd, people in 35 cities in France didn't use their cars. They went to work or school by bike, bus or on foot. After that, September 22nd became Car Free Day. The first Car Free Day in China was in Chengdu in 2001. The slogan(口号) for the day is "If we, drive for one less day, we can have one more nice day."

    Organized activities are held in many cities on Car Free Day. In Brussels, Car Free Day shall be valid(有效的) for everybody except persons with a special permit(许可证),but they have to slow down to the speed of 30 kilometres per hour. The public transportations are encouraged. The streets are open only to walkers, bicycles and buses from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. In Beijing, it asks drivers to leave their cars at home for one day each month and walk or ride a bike to work. More and more people are taking part in the activity. In the first quarter of this year, Beijing only had 52 blue sky days, and you may see haze almost every day! We must do more for Car Free Day as a Beijing driver said, "We may not change the weather, but we can choose not to drive."

    But we do not want just one day and then a return to "normal" life. We should go on with Car Free Day.

    A few days ago, I ran into a stranger as he passed by. I said sorry to him and he said, "Excuse me, too, I wasn't even watching for you." We were very polite this stranger and I. Then we went on our way after saying goodbye.

    Later in the kitchen at home, as I cooked our meal, my daughter Betty walked up to me, very quietly. When I turned around. I nearly knocked her down. "Get out of the way!" I shouted angrily. She ran away, crying.

    That night, when I lay in bed, my husband said to me, "You were so rude to Betty. Go and look around on the kitchen floor, and you'll find some flowers there. Betty brought those for you. She picked them herself - pink, yellow, and your favourite blue."

    When I heard this, I thought deeply: While meeting with a stranger, I was calm and polite; but with my daughter, I was not patient. I felt sad and tears began to fall.

    I quietly went to Betty's bed, "Wake up, my dear," I said, "Are these the flowers you picked for me?" She smiled, "I found them by the tree. I knew you'd like them, especially the blue." I said, "I am so sorry that I treated（对待）you that way today." And she whispered（悄声说）, "Mommy, that's okay - I still love you anyway." I kissed her and said, "I love you too and I do love the flowers."

    That day Betty gave me a lesson on how to get along with each other in the family. I spent much time on work before and didn't realize how important family life was. I decided to change myself in the future.
