Mr. Smith works in an office . He's very busy and has no time to have a good rest . Every evening , when he comes back from his office , he's always tired and wants to go to bed early . But his wife often has a lot of interesting things to tell him after dinner . She doesn't stop talking before she goes to sleep .

    One day the man felt terrible and couldn't go to work . He decided to go to see a doctor . And Mrs. Smith went to the hospital with him . Before her husband asked the doctor what was wrong with him , the woman told the doctor all and the doctor understood why . He wrote out a prescription（处方）. And when Mrs. Smith brought the medicine（药物）to the doctor , the doctor said to her , “ The bottle of medicine is for your husband and the sleeping pills（药片）are for you . ” “ For me ? ” the woman said in surprise “ I'm fine . I don't need any medicine ! ” “ I don't think so , madam ” , said the doctor . “ They are sleeping pills . Your husband will soon be all right if you take them . ”

    There was a beautiful garden. Every year the king would go to the garden to decide(决定) which flower was the most beautiful one. 

    For the last few years, the rose was always Number One. Because of this, the rose Gulaab became arrogant. It would never let birds stay on its flower. Then all the birds started staying away from Gulaab.

    Behind Gulaab, there was a little yellow flower. People called it Junglee. Junglee wasn't more beautiful than the rose, but it welcomed the birds to stay on its flower. All the birds in the garden liked it.

    This year the king went to the garden as before. The gardener(园丁) pointed at the rose and said to the king, “Your favorite flower, my king.”

    Of course, the king also saw the yellow flower behind it and asked, “What flower is that?”

    “Oh! That's Junglee, a wild flower.”

    “I didn't see a flower like it before. There are so many birds on it. I think it's much more beautiful than the rose. It will be the King Flower of this year!” said the king.

    There is a new park near Andy's home. It's fine today. Andy and his family are in the park now. On their left, there is a café. On their right, there is a big lake. There are many flowers and trees around the lake. There's a small hill behind the lake. Near the lake, there are two signs. One says, “Don't swim in the lake!” The other says, “No fishing!” But you can go boating on the lake. There is a beautiful garden in the middle of the park. There are green grass and beautiful flowers in it. There are some small shops between the lake and the garden. The park is so beautiful. Andy and his family like it very much.

    There was a time when no one knew the name Harry Potter.     J.K. Rowling was born in England in 1965. From a young age, she knew she wanted to be a writer. When she was 6, she wrote her first story—about a rabbit that gets sick. At school, she used to make up stories to tell her friends.

    After graduation from college, she worked as a secretary. But she didn't give up her dream.She spent her lunch hour writing stories, mainly for adults. Then in 1990, on a train trip to London,she got the idea from the boy wizard. She says he just appeared in her head. She soon created many other characters to help Harry fight the forces of darkness.

    She kept working on the story while she was teaching English in Portugal, where she married, had her first child, and divorced (与……离婚) a year later. When she returned to England, she brought back a box of Harry Potter stories.

    After returning home, she was broke and living in a small house. She continued writing, and in 1995, finished the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It was published (出版) in 1997 and became an unexpected bestseller.

    Rowling's life has changed a lot. She has become internationally famous and now earns around $40 million a year. She remarried, had a second child and lives in Scotland now.

    One day, I got off the train and was waiting for my ride .Suddenly I had an inspiration (灵感). I looked around and found a pen, but there was no paper. I sat down sadly for a few minutes. Then I looked around again. Finally, I found a dollar bill in my wallet. Although there was very little space to write on, I could write something.

    I took my pen and wrote something like this," This is a very special dollar. I give it to you with love. Do not keep it. Do not spend it. Pass it on. Give it to someone else with love, and watch it be passed on."

    I then decorated the bill with hearts and tried to fill it with as many good wishes as I could.

    There was a woman sitting near me. She was also waiting for a ride. She seemed a little bit worried. So I walked up to her and gave the bill to her

    The woman couldn't know what I was doing at first. And then she took a second look and read it. Suddenly she was not worried and she was happy. Also, she gave me a big huge and thanked me.

    I knew that if this was the result from just one person, then this wave of warmth would probably go on.

    My ride came, and we drove off. But I thought this was not the end of the story.

    It was Day 1 of our vacation on Cortes, a beautiful quiet island. "iPhone, iPhone, iPhone," my son kept moaning (呻吟). In front of him was a big window facing the blue ocean. And a cool gentle wind was coming in from the door. Clearly, he saw and felt none of it.

    Back at home, I'd soon give up and hand the phone over to him after five minutes of listening to this kind of moaning.

    But not here. Before we left, I had told my 10-year-old son the rule—no emails, no Facebook, no video games, and no iPhone. We came here to get away from them all. Here we were on our first day and already, he couldn't stand it.

         ▲      I walked down the grass road to the beach and looked out to the sea. My 6-year-old daughter and my husband were drawing on pieces of wood. They were doing just fine.

    On Day 2, we spent the whole morning digging for shells (贝壳). This time, my son joined us. He collected shellfish and other sea treasures. When we got back to our little wood house, I gave my son a book, and put him on the lovely garden chair. It was almost dinner when he looked up.

    The next few days passed in peace.

    On Day 6, my son was lying beside me on the beach, watching the sun going down. He was playing with the sand. And there was something shining in his eyes. I realized how time slowed down for both of us. It was exactly what I wanted. Finally, we were able to sit quietly without thinking about screens, phone calls and e-mail.
