The streams are about 12 to 15 feet wide and 300 feet or more long, scientists said.     The presence of liquid water could also make life easier for astronauts visiting or living on Mars. Watercould be used for drinking and for creating oxygen and rocket fuel. NASA's goal is to send humans there inthe 2030s.

    The evidence of flowing water consistslargely of dark, narrow streaks(条痕) on the surface that tend to appear and growd uring the warmest Martian months and fade the rest of the year.

      Brad closed the door slowly as Sue left home to visit her mother. Things started well, but just after eight o'clock, his three little “good kids”—Mike, Randy, and Alex — came down the stairs in their night clothes and shouted “breakfast, daddy.” When food had not appeared on within thirty seconds, Randy began using his spoon on Alex's head as if it were a drum.     One of the most outspoken supporters that I know of women and girls is actually a man. As co­founder of the ONE Campaign, my friend Bono spends a lot of time speaking out against global poverty (贫困). Together, we're working to get out a simple, powerful message: poverty is sexist.

    Women and girls are more likely to be in poverty, less likely to get an education and more likely to suffer bad health. And when they are born into poverty, it is much more difficult for them to lift themselves and their families out of it.

    Why? One reason is that breaking out of poverty takes time­and that is a resource women around the world are short on. On average, women spend about twice as much time as men in doing the unpaid work that makes life possible for everyone, like cooking, washing, cleaning, shopping and caring. In developing countries, the gap is even much bigger. As a result, women have no time to finish their education, learn new skills, open a business, develop personal relationships or even go to the doctor. They dream of creating a better future for their children, but they can not spare the hours to put those dreams that they have into action.

    The fact that the potential of so many women and girls is going unrealized is a sad thing­but it is also an opportunity for us. We need to recognize, reduce and redistribute the burden of work that is holding them back. Because if women have time to invest (投资) in themselves and their ideas, they could transform the world.

Students who are better able to understand and manage their emotions effectively, a skill known as emotional intelligence (EI), do better at school than their less-skilled classmates, according to research published by the American Psychological Association.

"It's not enough to be smart and hardworking. Students must also be able to understand and manage their emotions to succeed at school," said Carolyn MacCann, lead author of the study. MacCann and her colleagues analyzed data from more than 160 studies, representing more than 42,000 students from 27 countries, published between 1998 and 2019. The students ranged in age from primary school to college. The researchers found that students with higher EI tended to get higher grades and better achievement test scores than those with lower EI scores. This finding held true even when controlling for intelligence and personality factors. What was most surprising to the researchers was the association held despite different ages.

As for why EI can affect academic performance, MacCann believes a number of factors may come into play. "Students with higher EI may be better able to manage negative emotions, such as anxiety, boredom and disappointment, which can negatively affect academic performance," she said. "Also, these students may be better able to manage the social world around them, forming better relationships with teachers, classmates and family, all of which are important to academic success." Finally, the skills required for EI, such as understanding human motivation and emotion, may overlap with （与……重叠） the skills required to master certain subjects, such as history and language, giving students an advantage in those subject areas, according to Mac Cann.

However, Mac Cann cautions against widespread testing of students to identify and target those with low EI as it may stigmatize （给……打上烙印） those students. Instead, she recommends interventions that involve the whole school, including additional teacher training and a focus on teacher well-being and emotional skills. "Programs that integrate emotional skill development into the existing curriculum would be beneficial, as research suggests that training works better when run by teachers rather than external professionals," she said. "Increasing skills for everyone not just those with low EI would benefit everyone."

A visually-challenged man from Beijing recently hiked (徒步) 40 days to Xi'an, as a first step {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (journey) the Belt and Road route (路线) by foot. 

On the 1,100 kilometer journey, the man Cao Shengkang, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} lost his eyesight at the age of eight in a car accident, crossed 40 cities and counties in three province. Inspired by the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (hold) in Beijing, Cao decided to cover the route by hiking as a tribute (致敬) to the ancient Silk Road. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} friend of his, Wu Fan, volunteered to be his companion during the trip. 

Cao and Wu also collected garbage along the road, in order to promote environmental {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (protect). Cao believes this will make the hiking trip even more {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (meaning). The two of them collected more than 1,000 plastic bottles along the 40-day journey. 

In the last five years. Cao {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (walk) through 34 countries in six continents, and in 2016, he reached the top of Kilimanjaro, Africa's {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (high) mountain. 

Now, Cao has started the second part of his dream to walk along the Belt and Road route. He flew 4, 700 kilometers {#blank#}9{#/blank#} Xi'an to Kashgar on Sept. 20, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (plan) to hike back to Xi'an in five months.
