March 22 is World Water Day. Believed to be the source (源头) of all life, water plays a great role in the beginning of Chinese civilization (文明) and has inspired wise ideas in Chinese philosophy (哲学).

Chinese civilization is one of the world's ancient river civilizations. It began thousands of years ago along the Yellow and Yangtze rivers, linking the culture to water from its beginning.

However, the way people and water get along has two sides. Water is highly important for life and growing things, but if we can't control it, it can cause big problems. Knowing the strong power of water, Chinese people have always tried to use it in the best way possible. For example, Yu, the first ruler of the Xia Dynasty (朝代), controlled floods by changing and digging the waterways so that the water could easily go into the sea.

The Dujiangyan irrigation (灌溉) system in Sichuan was cleverly built It makes full use of the natural features of the area without harming the environment.

Water is also given philosophical meanings to educate Chinese people and rule the country. According to Xunzi, Confucius (孔子) believed water had qualities such as justice and courage. He once said that: "He who is wise loves water; he who is virtuous loves mountains." So, Confucianism suggests that people should learn from water and train their sense of morality (道德感). Inspired by water, Laozi gave birth to the idea of "overcoming hardness with softness and non-action". These ideas later inspired rulers to follow the rules of nature and respect the will of the people.

Do you know about koalas? The koala is 1 Australian animal. It 2 gray and brown fur(皮毛). And the fur on 3 belly(腹部) is white. Koalas eat and sleep in eucalyptus trees(桉树). 4 almost never get down the trees so somebody thinks they are 5 . They are active 6 night and sleep all day. People often think that koalas are friendly animals 7 they look very cute. But they may scratch(乱抓) people if they are not happy. They have sharp claws(利爪). So please 8 friendly to them. In the past, koalas were often hunted(被捕获) because of their beautiful soft fur. Now they are a protected species(被保护的物种) and it's not right 9 them. We need koalas and other animals, because they are our dear 10 ! 

Chinese researchers reached the top of Qomolangma on May 4th, 2022. They set up the world's highest automatic(自动的)weather station at an altitude(海拔)of 8,830 meters. The station helps Chinese scientists to directly collect data (数据) from the top of the world's highest mountain and study the effects of climate (气候) change on the environment. 

Collecting and studying data from Qomolangma is not easy. But the data will give valuable information about the condition of local glaciers（冰川）and mountain snow. The water from the glaciers and mountain snow has been the source(源头)for over 10 main rivers in Asia and it has fed more than 2. 5 billion people 

It will also help scientists study and understand the global monsoon system (全球季风系统),so experts can make proper decisions about climate change and sustainable(可持续的)development. 

With the efforts of Chinese government and many years hard work by scientists, China has become a global front—runner in fields related to the Qinghai —Tibetan Plateau. 

① Arat Montoya, 36, lives in West Linn, a city in the US. He is from a family of bakers. But he doesn't like making bread. When his father asked him to follow the family tradition, Montoya said,"I'm sorry, Dad. I love dogs." he said.

②Montoya spent a few years working at a dog club. After the club closed, Montoya started to offer(提 供) a doggie day care service(服务). He has a" Doggie School Bus" and he works as the driver. The bus runs five days a week and the service is $30 per(每一) dog each day.

③Montoya's service is pretty nice. Every morning at about 7 a. m., he drives the school bus to the owners'(主人) houses to pick up the dogs and takes them to" school"—a farm. The dogs are full of excitement because" go to school" means they can play all day. They can run around and play with each other at" school". When" school" finishes, Montoya takes the dogs back home. He also sends some videos and pictures to show the dogs'" school" life to the dogs' owners.

④ It shows that the doggie day care service is a great business(生意) idea. Montoya loves taking care of those dogs. And the dogs love going to" school". The most important is that the dogs' owners speak highly of Montoya and his business. All of them are happy about this doggie day care service.

⑤Now, more than 300 owners ask Montoya to take care of their dogs."I'm the happiest man in the world," Montoya said." Doing what I like truly makes me happy."

Kathy could still remember the night she had to leave her home in Hungary. It was the beginning of World War（战争）II and her family had to leave their country as soon as possible. She quickly filled（充满）a bag with a few pieces of clothing, her diary, and her treasure（珍宝）—a beautiful silk scarf.

"I`m sorry, dear, but you make me think of someone I once knew," the old woman replied. "My best friend looked like you and used to wear a scarf just like the one you're wearing around your neck. Eliza listened carefully, with her eyes and mouth wide open. She had heard stories of her grandmother's best friend and knew the meaning of the scarf. 

"My name's Monica, dear. I lived in Hungary as a child, but my family had to leave when I was fourteen years old. I've been living here in California from then on." said the old woman.

One in every 121 Americans share the last name"Smith". It is also the most used last name in the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, a study finds.

The study also finds that many people in Asia share the same family names. In China,there are about 2,000 family names in use today, but about 50% of all Han Chinese people share the same 19 family names! The most used family name is Wang. One in every 13 people have"Wang"to be the family name. In South Korea, one in five are named"Kim", and inVietnam,25% of people are named"Nguyen".

Where do these most used last name s come from? Some people may have last name s from an occupation or the name of a place."Cook"and"Hill"are two of the most common(最常见的) family names."Cook"comes from the job people do and"Hill"is from the place people live in. Some common last names come from the people in their families. Often a son gets his last name from his father by putting "s" or "son" at the end of his father's given name.Thomson, Wilson, Roberts and Davis are all common last names.
