Mr. Johnson lived in a village. He had a big farm and five men worked for him. He was rich but hoped to become richer. He tried (get) everything and was cruel to his workers, so nobody liked him.

    One day, it rained (heavy). The old man went to his field to see if his workers were still working. While he (walk) over the bridge, he saw a beautiful box in the river. He was sure there was something expensive it. He jumped into the water without taking off his clothes. But was difficult for him to swim and he could not reach the box. Instead, the water almost washed him away. He caught a piece of wood in the river and shouted, "Help! Help!"

    The workers (run) to the river and found the old man. They watched him making his way with difficulty in the water, none of them would save him. His wife heard him and said, "I'll give twenty dollars to the man who can save my husband."

    A young worker jumped into the river and wanted to save the old man.

    young man will save you," said the old woman. Twenty dollars should (give) to him for it, I think."

    "I don't think ,"said Mr. Johnson. "I will be half dead when I am pulled out of the river, so I can only give him ten dollars!"
