Recently a really strange thing happened in a middle school in China's Hubei Province. Over 600 students there took part in a "caring for an egg like a baby"{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (active), in which they were asked to keep an egg close at hand for a month{#blank#}2{#/blank#}breaking it.

    "It's hard for parents to bring up their children {#blank#}3{#/blank#} many students just ignore it," said Liu Kang, the school's director. "They should {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (teach) to be grateful to their parents, who have given them life but ask for nothing in return."

    Li Ming is one of the students. His egg didn't break during the month, but he felt   {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(exhaust). "I now understand what great difficulty my parents have had{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(bring) me up. I'll do all I can to make their life easier and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (comfort) when I grow up," promised the 13-year-old boy.

    {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(luck), about 450 students broke their eggs. Yan Yueming broke his egg after just five days, which made him frustrated. He said, "I can't imagine {#blank#}9{#/blank#} sad my parents would be if there was something wrong with me, their 'egg'! It is now time I {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(do) something in return for their love," said Yan.

    Strange things appeared before the Tangshan earthquake happened. For three days the water in the village wells {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(rise) and fell. The well walls had deep cracks in them. A smelly gas came out of the cracks. Some animals including fish, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(mouse) behaved strangely. Other strange things also happened in the city, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} people thought little of these events and they slept as usual.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (final) a terrible earthquake hit the city of Tangshan on July 28, 1976, in which more than 240,000 people died and many {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(injure). Many houses fell down and sand filled the wells instead of water. People were greatly shocked. All the electricity in the city was cut off and people began {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (wonder) how long the disaster would last. The whole city was completely destroyed and the world seemed to be {#blank#}7{#/blank#}an end. It was one of the most destructive earthquakes ever, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} shocked the whole nation.

    However, the people of Tangshan didn't lose hope because 150,000 soldiers were sent to help the rescue workers. The soldiers tried their best to dig out those {#blank#}9{#/blank#} were trapped. They also built shelters for the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (survive). Fresh water was taken to the city by every means. Slowly, the city began to come back to life.

Researchers have discovered that children have levels of recovery of endurance athletes. In fact, scientists say children's muscles recover from "high-intensity exercise" a lot {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(quick)than athletes. A study looked at the performance levels of children when they were cycling, and compared their fitness to {#blank#}3{#/blank#} of athletes. Rwsearcher Dr Sebastien Ratel suggested they{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(find)the children used more of their aerobic metabolism and were therefore less tired during the high-intensity physical activities. The children also recovered very quickly—even faster than the well-trained adult endurance athletes.

    The researchers hope that{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(they)finding will help scientists have a better {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(understand) of how the human body changes with age. It could lead to advantages in the fight{#blank#}7{#/blank#}diabetes and other diseases. Dr Ratel said the research was{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(particular)important as more children were become less active. He warned."
