Once upon a time, there was a poor fisherman who always dreamt of becoming rich. He wished to become a millionaire, and so did his wife. He heard from some old {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (man) before, that several ships loaded with diamonds and gold had sunk (沉没) in the nearby seashore. Because of this, for a long time he kept {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (search) that whole area for this treasure.

    One day, while he was sitting on the boat daydreaming, he suddenly felt that the fishing rod (竿) was being pulled down by {#blank#}3{#/blank#} heavy object. He was so {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (excite) that he pulled hard at it, and what he saw made him {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (shout), "Wow! A big shiny, gold chain!" He pulled hard at the gold chain {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (get) it into the boat, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} it seemed to be no end to it. His boat started to get overloaded and it {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (fill) with sea water. However, he had begun dreaming of a big house, a big piece of land and buying horses and cows… He kept pulling in the chain and the boat kept sinking.     Lisa has always been fat. She wanted to lose weight, not only because she wanted to look more beautiful and healthier, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} also because it would make life easier.

    For example， it was difficult for Lisa {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (find) ready-made clothes. She had to ask a tailor(裁缝) to make clothes that were large enough. In the school, she needed a special chair that was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (big) and stronger than other chairs. If she went for a walk, she got tired very {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (quick).

    She was also unhappy about the way people treated her sometimes. She couldn't enjoy having dinner with her friends {#blank#}5{#/blank#} she was afraid of getting fatter.

Japanese woman—Junko Tabei

    Mount Qomolangma is the highest mountain in the world. It is in the Himalaya(喜马拉雅)Mountains between Nepal(尼泊尔)and China, and it is about 8, 844 meters high. Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal were the first people ever{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(climb)Mount Everest in 1953. Men from several different countries climbed it after that.

    Junko Tabei, a Japanese, was the first woman{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(make)this difficult climb. A Japanese newspaper-television company{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(choose)fifteen women from mountaineering clubs to climb Mount Qomolangma in 1975. The group climbed for several days. Then there was an accident. The heavy ice and snow{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(hurt)ten of the women. They had to stop climbing. The other five went on climbing.

    Only Ms. Tabei was able to climb the last 70 meters. She{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(stand)on the top of the world. She was the first woman there. Ms. Tabei was 35 years old at that time. She started climbing mountains in 1960. She still climbs mountains now. She is not an ordinary{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(Japan)housewife. Ms. Tabei makes money for her trips by{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(teach)English and piano to children. She climbs a mountain about every three years. She has climbed some of{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(high)mountains in six countries. Finally, she wants to climb the highest mountain in every country in the world. When she reaches the top of a mountain, she thinks, "I'm glad that I'm at the top."
