Excellent English food at the Country House

    Last Saturday night，my family and I ate at the Country House．

    The Country House serves traditional English food，we paid about 15 to 20 pounds a person to eat there．

    The food was wonderful．The fish pie reminded me of my grandma．She used to cook it for me．I also had some fish and chips，and it was fantastic．

    The waiters were polite，but a little slow．We were seated at 7 p．m．，but we did not receive our food until 7：40 p．m．

    I would certainly recommend the Country House for good，traditional English food．However，you should get there early and be prepared to spend a lot of time waiting for your food．

    Liao Yifeng, a police officer working in a small village in Wuhan, is a "father" to 39 "left-behind" children, whose parents are working far away from home and seldom spend time with them.

    Wan Tianle, an 8-year-old boy, was the first to call Liao "Dad". Wan's parents divorced when he was only 6 months old.     Liao has built a special room named "family love room" in the police station, where Liao helped these left-behind children with their homework and taught them about safety in his spare time.

    Moreover, a computer in the "family love room" plays an indispensable role because it offers a precious opportunity for Liao to help children whose parents are working far away to chat with them online.

    When you go to a new school, it can be terrible. You may worry about making friends. But do not worry too much. Most of the time some people are friendly and some people are not. What makes a person a friend? Here are what the two students say.

    "My name is Helen. Amy and Sally are my best friends. I made friends with Amy when I was three years old. Now we're 14! I like her because she is happy and very friendly almost all the time. Sally is a quiet girl. She makes friends more slowly. However, she is just as good a friend as Amy. They are interested in the same things as me. We all like sports and we often play tennis together in the park. And we also like reading books in the school library. And we listen to each other's problems. We are all good at different school subjects, so we help each other with our homework too!"

    "I'm Tina. My best friend is Mabel. She and I always talk and laugh (笑). There are many things we both like. We like music. We often play the guitar and sing. We also go to movies, but sometimes we can't agree (同意)on which movie to see. Sometimes we just walk around. We also like swimming. On weekends, we usually do the homework, play sports and go to the Music Club. When I'm busy, sometimes I can't see Mabel for about a month. But we still find time to see each other. It's always fun to be with her.

    Besides silk, the Chinese also sold tea, salt, sugar, porcelain(瓷器)and spices(香料). Most of the goods were expensive. This was because it was a long trip and trades didn't have a lot of room for goods. They bought goods like cotton, ivory, wool, gold and silver.

    Traders traveled in large caravans (商队). They would have many guards with them.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Most of the road was through dry land, so camels were popular animals for transport.

    Although there was some trade between China and the rest of the world for some time, the silk trade developed quickly during the Han Dynasty which ruled from 206 B. C. to 220 A.D.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}During this time, Chinese traders traveled safely. Also, traders had a higher social position.
