    Today is the first day of the week. In the afternoon, Mr. Read is driving his car to his sister's school. Now he is very near the school. But he doesn't know the way to it. At this time, he sees a young woman. Mr. Read comes out of his car and goes to her." Excuse me! Where's the school, please?" he asks. The young woman says," It's very near here. I want to go with you."

On 4 June 1913, a woman called Emily Davison① went to a horse race, threw herself under the king's horse and later died from her injuries. A1 which said "Votes for women" was found in her pocket. All her life, Emily had been fighting for women's rights. She was a suffragette, part of a group of women who started working together in 1903 to 2 equal rights for women. When Emily was young, she and all the other women in the UK were not allowed to vote, go to university or work in the same jobs as men. In the event of a divorce②, the husband took the children. In poor villages, wives were 3 sold in the market. 

The suffragettes wanted to 4 all this. More than a thousand were arrested③, but they did not stop. They went on hunger strike in prison to fight against the unfair treatment. In 1928, women in the UK finally got the right to vote and then more and more women started to go to university and get jobs. In 1952, female teachers were given the right to earn the same money as male teachers. The situation has been 5 since the suffragettes' time but many people say that men and women are still not equal in society.6 , now in the UK, men earn 20 per cent more than women for the same work. If you are a male manager, your chance of being promoted④ is 40 per cent higher than a female manager's. That's why many people are still fighting for equal rights for women in the UK.

How long would it take you to run 5,000 m? Li Yiben, 80 years old, ran 5,000 m in 28 minutes and 6 seconds(秒). 

Li did it in a race in Huainan, Anhui Province on April 3rd. There were six runners in his group. The other five were three men in their 50s and 60s and two women in their mid-30s. Li was the oldest but he finished third. 

"This is tough. I have never worked so hard," said Li after the race. 

Li served in the military(部队)when he was young. In 1968, he left the military and found a new job. Li had to go over 20 km from home to work. That's when he got interested in running. Li ran to work every two or three days. That made him a great runner. After he left work in 1995, Li spent more time running. 

In 1998, Li ran a 100 km marathon(马拉松赛跑). He ran in the National Masters Athletics Championships(全国大师田径锦标赛)in 1999. One year later, he went to the Asia Masters Athletics Championships in India. In 2001, Li went to Sydney to run in the World Masters Athletics Championships. He won many prizes. 

In the following years, Li kept running in many races. Running plays an important role in his life. "Running makes me feel younger," said Li.
