Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Many heroes are not even human, such as dogs, horses and cats. They are so brave and helpful that human beings are proud of them, too. Lucca, a 12-year-old dog, is a great animal hero. She is a retired US Marine Corps dog. On April 5, 2016 she received the Dickin Medal from PDSA in London, England. And PDSA will provide free medical care for the sick and wounded animals in need. The Dickin Medal was founded in 1943 by Maria Dickin.

    The Medal is the highest prize for animals working in wars in the world.

    Lucca is the first U.S. Marine Corps dog to receive the medal. As a search dog, Lucca's work was dangerous. She was trained to find hidden weapons and explosive devices. According to the US Marine Corps, Lucca protected the lives of thousands of soldiers, and no soldiers were killed while she was going around. She completed over 400 dangerous pieces of work during six years in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2012, she lost her front left leg in an explosion while working in Afghanistan.

    Lucca is the 66th animal to receive the Dickin Medal. 30 dogs (including Lucca) have got the Medal as well as 32 World War II messenger pigeons, three horses and one cat.

    Mark and his brother Jason both were looking at the shining new computer enviously, Jason was determined not to go against their father's wishes but Mark was more adventurous than his brother. He loved experimenting and his aim was to become a scientist like his father.

    "Dad will be really mad if he finds out you've been playing with his new computer." Jason said. "He told us not to touch it."

    "He won't find out, "Mark said." I'll just have a quick look and shut it down."

    Mark had been scolded before for touching his father's equipment. But his curiosity was difficult to control and this new computer really puzzled him.

    It was a strange—looking machine--one his dad had brought home from the laboratory where he worked. "It's an experimental model, "his father had explained," so don't touch it under any circumstances." But his father's warning only made Mark more curious. Without any further thought, Mark turned on the power switch. The computer burst into life and seconds later, the screen turned into colors, shifting and changing and then two big white words appeared in the centre of the screen: "SPACE TRANSPORTER."

   "Yes!" Mark cried excitedly, "It's a computer game. I knew it! Dad's only been pretending to work. He's really been playing games instead. ''A new message appeared on the screen：

    "ENTER NAMES

    VOYAGER 1…

    VOYAGER 2… "

    Mark's fingers flew across the keyboard as he typed in both of their names.

    "INPUT ACCEPTED START TRANSPORT PROGRAM. AUTO RETRIEVE INITIATED(自动回收程序已启动). "

    The screen turned even brighter and a noise suddenly rose in volume.

    "I think we'd better shut it off, Mark, "Jason yelled, reaching for the power switch. He was really frightened.

    But his hand never reached the switch. A single bean, of dazzling white light burst out of the computer screen, wrapping the boys in its glow(光芒), until the)themselves seemed to be glowing. Then it died down Just as suddenly as it had burst into life. And the boys were no longer there. On the screen, the letters changed.

    "TRANSPORT SUCCESSFUL. DESTINATION：MARS. RETRIEVE DATE：2025."

    Before Monica goes to bed, she looks out of her window and sees the Moon. The Moon looks so beautiful. "I wish I could get the Moon," thinks Monica. But no matter (无论) how hard she tries, she cannot get the Moon. "Papa," Monica says to her father, "please get the Moon for me."

    Papa gets a very long ladder (梯子). He carries the very long ladder to a very high mountain. Then Papa puts the very long ladder on top (顶部) of it. Up and up he climbs. At last, Papa gets to the Moon.

    "My daughter Monica would like to play with you, but you are much too big," says Papa.

    "Every night I get a little smaller," says the Moon. "When I am just the right size, you can take me with you." After a few days, Papa takes it. Down and down he climbs.

    "Here," Papa says to Monica, "I have the Moon for you." Monica jumps and dances with the Moon. But the Moon keeps getting smaller and smaller. And at last, it disappears. Then, one night, Monica sees a small Moon come out. Each night the Moon grows, grows and grows.

    Mr. Smith likes all kinds of delicious food, and he often has dinner out with his friends. Now Mr. Smith is getting fatter and fatter. He can seldom go upstairs(楼上)at home and has to sleep downstairs. When he walks or does some housework, he often feels uncomfortable(不舒服的).He is very worried. So he goes to see a doctor.

    "______________," says the doctor, "and your health will be better!" But it is difficult for Mr. Smith to do it. He doesn't want to listen to the doctor. A few months later, he finds something wrong with his heart. He is afraid. Now he thinks he must do as the doctor says. When he go to see the doctor again, the doctor tells Mr. Smith it is a little late. And he has to be in hospital.

    "If you don't want to die, you must lose weight, Sir," says the doctor.

"To move your head from one side(边)to the other side when your friends ask you to have dinner out!"

    Long ago, there was a queen who lived in a palace (宫殿) , she felt bored and said to her adviser(顾问) ,"AII the things around me are too boring. I need a different kind of beauty. Let everyone know that I will hold a competition for the most beautiful thing in the world. And the prize will be this crown (王冠)."

    Several days later, lots of people came to the competition and showed their things. The queen was not satisfied with what she saw. The adviser suggested, "What you are looking for cannot be brought to you. You must look for it by yourself. What about a journey?"

    The queen was interested in the idea, so she started at once. As she was on top of the hill near her palace, she looked down and suddenly something cried in her heart. "Why have I never found my palace so beautiful?"

    The queen spent one year traveling. She saw beauty on the farm, in the forest and even in the stars twinkling at night on her journey. But what was the most beautiful thing? She thought it over.

    Suddenly, she understood beauty was everywhere. She should learn to enjoy the world. She left the pieces of her crown at different places that she had seen. As time went by, the queen's crown got smaller and smaller until nothing was left.

    She found the most beautiful thing at last. It was the world!
