As more information comes out about 10-year-old Cindy Smith's death(死亡), worries about amusement park safety(游乐场安全性) grow.

Cindy is not the first child who died on an amusement park ride. 25 years ago, the mother of a 14-year-old girl waited to pick up her daughter outside Worlds of Fun. Laura Barry never saw her daughter Rosie alive again.

"My heart goes out to the Smith family more than they can ever possibly know," said Barry. She is one of the few people who truly know the hurt that family is feeling.

In 1995, Rosie's mom said that something went wrong on the Timber Wolf the night Rosie died. Police found no evidence(证据). Two men told the police that they saw Rosie standing before she fell out of the car.

"I couldn't believe that such a thing could happen still and again," said Barry. She believes Rosie's death should have been a wakeup call for amusement park safety.

She finds that not much has changed in the past years. Amusement parks race to build bigger, taller, faster rides. In her opinion, amusement parks just try to bring in visitors and give them the idea that riding is good, safe and fun. She believes that parks should have put safety first.

There is no exact number of amusement park deaths each year. It is quite low according to some websites. But Barry doesn't accept that. "My daughter was the only person that had ever been killed at Worlds of Fun in all of the years, among all of the thousands and thousands of people that went there. The number doesn't mean anything, you know, because when your child is the one, that's one too many," she said.

It was Saturday. After dinner, Mary would like to see a film with her 1 . But her mother said, "Could you please do the dishes, Mary? I have to go to 2 your brother."

Mary's brother Mike was ill in3 . Her father worked in another town and he was very

4 and couldn't come back. Mary had to help her mother do some chores. But her mother usually did everything and Mary didn't know 5 to do it.

Mary decided to 6 her friend a call first. On the phone, she told her friend to wait for her at home. Then Mary's mother7 her how to do the dishes. Before 8 , Mary's mother said, "Be9 , Mary. Don't drop them."

"Don't 10 , Mommy," said Mary. "They're light. I don't think they'll hurt my feet."

A few years ago, I had a wonderful Christmas experience that finally changed how I celebrated the festival. Now I've decided to 1  it with all of you. 

Before that Christmas, I was running around like a crazy person to get 2  ready. One day I took my three little kids to the market to buy the last things for the next day. After walking and shopping for a long time, I was terribly 3  and kept thinking to myself, "What is the true 4  of Christmas?"

When I was walking towards the exit(出口) after I finished 5 , I noticed an old man sitting on the bench 6  an envelope in his hand. He handed something to a well-dressed, 7  man and said, "Merry Christmas!" It was a $20 bill. The young man was in great 8  and asked, "Are you serious?""Yes. Merry Christmas, " he replied. So the young man got the money and left 9 . 

"What's he doing?"I was more puzzled(困惑的) 10  I saw him giving more bills to some other shoppers. Just then he 11  and walked over to me. Then he pulled a $50 bill out of his envelope and handed it to me, saying "Merry Christmas!"

My face turned 12  and said, "Sir, I don't need fifty dollars. ""Well, then, " he smiled and said, "find someone who does. Merry Christmas!" And he left 13 . What a kind man he was and how many people he helped out that day! All of a sudden, for the 14  time I felt the real Christmas spirit. And I decided I'd spread his spirit and find someone who 15  that $50. From then on, I was used to teaching my kids about love and kindness and letting them feel the spirit of Christmas. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Little Dora always wanted a sister.So when Mum told her she would have one in six months, she felt very 1 .But Dora had to be away for some time.She had promised to stay with her grandparents till autumn came.

"How can I make 2 go faster? I can't wait to see the 3 ," Dora said to herself while she was sitting in her grandparents' yard one day.She had a good 4 when she saw the apple tree in the yard.She decided to 5 a picture of the tree each day.As Grandpa said, by the time she saw red apples on the tree, she would have a sister!

Dora's first picture was a tree full of green leaves.Day by day, the weather got cooler.The leaves slowly 6 their colour and tiny apples appeared among them.

 7 , Dora drew her last picture of the tree.It had a lot of red apples.Now it was time to return home.When she entered the house, Mum and Dad were 8 her on the sofa.Each of them was 9 a baby in their arms.

"Now you have a sister and a brother!" Dad said."Wow, I'm the 10 sister in the world!"Dora said happily."Look! Their faces are as round as red apples.They are so cute."
