An interview with Andy Griffiths

Andy Griffiths is well known as a writer of children's books. Here are some interesting things you might not know about him !

I go for long runs and bike rides beside the beach. An hour of exercise after a long day of writing gives me energy. Then I'm ready to write some more.

At first I write the stories by hand, and then I transfer (转录）them onto a computer. I like to write by hand when I travel. I find it very easy to lose myself in my diary when I am away from my usual activities.

I'm never happier than I'm thinking banana milk shakes. And I love fish. But I don't like drinking fish milk shakes. They are just terrible !

What is your favorite book ?

Alice in Wonderland. It has so many surprises and such silliness in it.

Only if I really have to. I much prefer the freedom and fun of writing for children.

It was a fine day. People at the railway station were waiting for the train to arrive. The train was coming in. Everyone waited there to get into the train. A group of young men made loud noises to welcome the train. The empty seats were nearly filled and the train was ready to move. Just then，an old man with a little boy of 10 years old came running to catch the train. As soon as they entered the train，the train started to move. They had their seats just next to the young group. 

The little boy was so surprised to see everything. "Dad，the train is moving and the things are moving backwards out of the window!"he shouted to his father. A fruit seller went past selling apples. His father bought him some apples. "Oh，the apple looks much sweeter than it tastes，"the little boy said. "Is your son having any problem？Why is he so different？"one of the young men asked. Another young man made fun of him. "His son is mad，I think!"he shouted. "My son was born blind. Only a few days ago，he had an operation. It is the first time that he has seen things in his life，"the father of the little boy replied with patience（耐心地）. The young group became very quiet and said sorry to the father and the son. 

 John is a middle school student. A few weeks ago, John1 to a new school. He likes it better than his old school. The classrooms are big and clean. Every classroom has2 computer in it. The library is also really great! There are lots of books, magazines and newspapers. It also has 3 chairs and students can sit on them when they read. The food in the school dining hall is delicious and not expensive.4 the students like to eat there. The beef noodles are John's favorite. John's favorite place at the school is the big auditorium (礼堂). The students often go there to 5 to talks. Last week John went there for an interesting speech and he loved it.

 The school has all 6 of activities. For example, there is a music festival every June. The students like 7 school band(乐队) very much. The sports meet is also one 8 the most popular activities at the school. It is for September every year.

 John is happy that he can9 at this school. He enjoys his days here 10 he has the best teachers and the friendliest classmates.

 Once upon a time, there was a family with 8 children living in a village. Two of the children, both boys. loved painting very much.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} the family was so poor that it was impossible to send both of them to study at art school.

 After many discussions, the two boys finally came up {#blank#}2{#/blank#} an idea. They would toss(抛)a coin. The loser would go down into the mines(矿井) and support his brother with his pay. Then, when the brother {#blank#}3{#/blank#} won the toss finished his studies, he would pay the school fee for the other brother {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (study) at the college in four years.

 One of the brothers, Albrecht Duren won the toss {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(lucky) while his brother Jack went down the dangerous mines. Durer worked really hard and his paintings were much {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(good) than those of most of his teachers. He made a lot of money from his paintings.

 Finally, Durer {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(return). When he told Jack he could go to art college. Jack wasn't very excited and said"The four years in the mines has done too much to my hands. It is too late. Now I can't even hold a glass."

 To show his love to his brother, Durer drew his {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(brother) hands with palms (手掌) together and thin fingers towards the sky. He called his drawing simply Hands, but {#blank#}9{#/blank#} whole world almost quickly opened their {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(heart) to the great work and renamed it The Praying Hands.

 The next time you see a copy of that touching creation, take a second look. Let it be your reminder: No one can ever succeed alone!
