When I was a student, I didn't like to do housework. I thought that I was a little child and what I needed is to study hard to get good grades. So I didn't do any 1 at home.

One day, my mother 2 back home from work. She found that I had made a mess in the house. My books and clothes were everywhere. She was annoyed (恼火) and said to me 3 , "From now on, you must do some housework every day!" Hearing my mother's 4 , I felt unhappy. But I still did as she said.

Doing housework was more difficult than I had expected. I began to understand that life was not 5 for my parents. They had to do a lot of housework when they came back home 6 work. So I tidied my room and 7 my clothes. And I helped my 8 cook meals in the evening. My parents praised 9 for my changes.

Now I realize that doing housework can not only help my parents 10 also help me to learn many basic life skills.

I was heading back home after giving my colleague a lift. I took a  1  as the snowstorm was approaching.

Then the snow started and was coming down  2 . Within minutes I was in a whiteout. The windows were 3 and getting covered with snow, so I slowed down and rolled down my driver's side window, thinking I could better 4 the road edge and keep to a straight line. But really, I had no  5  where I was. I stopped and kept the car running to stay 6  . I called 911. The operator told me to wait things out for the night.

The call left me in  7 . "Breathe," I told myself. An idea occurred to me. I 8  my location online and explained what I was  9 , wishing for anyone to come to my rescue. Soon enough, people started chiming in on my post. I got a 10 from someone who was going to put me in touch with people nearby. I had never been more  11 .

Then I saw a big 12  in the dark. He had walked about 500 meters to get me, 13  the wind and snow each step of the way. "You'll be OK. Follow me." He turned around and started to trudge through the snow, sure of the 14 . I drove slowly behind him. When we reached his house, I burst into tears of 15 .

It was the middle of winter some 30 years ago. I was a young father with three little mouths to 1 . My college education, however, didn't help me to 2 a well-paid job. I was working in a woodcutting business for just above the 3 wage. Working outdoors for 8 hours a day had caused my4 to split (裂开) and bleed at their tips in the cold, dry air. 

That day at work was harder than normal. We 5 workers. Worse still, the machines kept breaking down. When the day finally ended, I took off the gloves and 6 my painful hands. The splits were 7 than ever and I had bled through the band-aids again. I tried to 8 my back but it hurt badly. I had never felt that tired and 9 before, wondering why life was so tough and how long I could keep doing this. 

I tried to 10 a smile as I got home. My daughter ran up to me merrily, yelled "Daddy!", and 11 her little arms around my neck. My heart exploded with 12 . My aches and tiredness disappeared into her13 . And the joy in my heart 14 the depression away. At that moment I knew I could continue on and that things would get better. 

We all have 15 fingers and band-aid days in our lives here. But with love we can make it through them all.

Last August, the 900-year-old Wan'an Bridge in Pingnan County, a locality of Ningde City in the coastal Fujian province, was destroyed when it suddenly caught fire.

Wan'an, a national-level protected building, was a wooden arch corridor bridge (木拱廊桥),which for centuries was an ancient architectural calling card for the region. The bridge,98.2 meters long and 4.7 meters wide, was first built in the Song dynasty (960~1279), and was the longest wooden arch corridor bridge left standing in China. Few, however, had imagined that such an ancient bridge would attract public attention in such a way.

Amid the powerful voice of the local population for new wooden arch bridges, the traditional techniques behind the building work have well and truly been revived (唤醒), but the protection of the ancient buildings still has much room for improvement.

Currently, China's approach to the protection of national heritage sites puts protecting and rescuing endangered buildings before all else, but to keep these ancient buildings alive, preventive protection is key.

"Technically, restoring (修复) Wan'an isn't very difficult," said Li, Deputy County Mayor of Pingnan. "Along with the help of the local inheritors of the national intangible cultural heritage, the bridge's restoration looks hopeful. However, the historical value will definitely be affected."

Meanwhile, Zhan, the former Deputy Dean at the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage, pointed out the recent destruction of Wan'an Bridge highlights a serious shortage of warning mechanisms and preventative protection measures, which currently are supposed to be the most important part of protection. "Significant improvements have been made in the past few years in protection, but we still have a long way to go on proper planning for protection work. How to protect cultural heritage is a matter that we need to discuss as soon as possible," he added.

Growing up in poverty in rural Kenya,Nelly Cheboi watched her single mother work tirelessly so she could attend school. 

From an early age,she realized that her family,along with others like hers in their village, was1 a cycle that left them little hope. Cheboi attended college.2 a scholarship in the United States,worked odd jobs to support her family,and discovered her3 for computer science. She4 the success in finding jobs to her computer literacy. She knew she wanted to share it with her5 back home. 

Today,she's giving 4,000 kids the chance for a6 future through her nonprofit, TechLit Africa. The organization uses recycled7 to create technology labs in schools in rural Kenya. 

In 2018,she began8 recycled computers. She started small,carrying the machines to Kenya and9 customs fees and taxes herself. TechLit Africa now works with shipping companies to10 the donated computers so it's more cost11 . The donated hardware is12 to partner schools in rural Kenya,where students aged 4 to 12 receive daily classes and13 opportunities from professionals and gain skills that will help improve their education and prepare them for future jobs. 

"My hope is that when the first TechLit kids graduate from high school,they're able to get a job online14 they will know how to code,"Cheboi said. "The world is your oyster when you are educated. By bringing the resources,by bringing these skills,we are15 the world to them. "

In 1999, John Smith, a high-school teacher decided it was time to retire. Together with his wife Helen, he set off on a journey around Australia. But when they returned, John found he missed the classroom, so he spent another eight years doing casual teaching.

Then he heard about a program known as Volunteers for Isolated Students' Education (VISE), which pairs up energetic people with educational experience, usually retired teachers, with children whose schooling is largely done remotely, because they live too far away from towns and cities to attend regular schools. John grew up in the country and as a kid in the bush, he always dreamed of running with circus, but he didn't even have much chance to see the circus in person. Therefore he was immediately interested in the program and got a travelling post as a teacher with Stardust Circus.

The lesson timetable was built around the kid's performance schedules. "The eight-year-old I tutored was an awesome gymnast who was part of the teeterboard(跷跷板) act," he explains. "A big guy would jump on the other side, he would swing up in the air, do a couple of twirls(旋转) and land on his uncle's shoulders, and his uncle was standing on the boy's father's shoulders!"

The circus still includes some animal acts, including lions, monkeys, horses, goats and pigs. John and his wife Helen found it extraordinary enough to sink into sleep to the sound of lions roaring, but one day the lion-trainer, Matt, gave him a very special privilege,inviting him in to meet four 13-month old lions in person. While it was understandably a little scary at first, for John it was a never-to-be-forgotten experience, which helped him realize his boyhood dream in ms 75th year.
