      I need some advice on how to make friends! I have just moved to a new city. I am 13. I don't know anybody here and I want to make some friends. What's the best way? Where can I meet people?

     There are lots of things you can do. First, you can ride your bike in your neighbourhood and try to find some kids. When you find some, you can go up and talk to them. You should also let your parents know that you want to make friends because they can help you. Maybe you can ask your parents to take you to the library or some places where there are lots of kids. You could try joining an art class or a sports club. These are all great ways to meet people. You can also try making friends at churches (教堂) if you go to churches on Sundays. Try to be active wherever you are, but just be yourself and don't try so hard. It takes time and patience. I hope you will find a best friend soon!

   Do you think there is a ghost(鬼) in the world? More than 20 years ago, a student jumped from the top of the clock tower in the University of Birmingham. He did this only because he failed his final exam.

   After his death, a superstition(迷信)began: Anyone who walks under the clock tower will have bad luck in his exam. Years later, students there still remembered the story of the tower. Although Birmingham is the second largest city in Britain, the university is green and quiet. The grass around the tower has been worn away by the feet of students who refuse to pass underneath the tower.

   The university had to pave(铺)extra paths, so students could walk to their classrooms without passing under the most terrible area. But, one day just before an important exam, a top student in the university walked under the clock tower because he was lost in thought.

However, he got high marks in the exam the next day. Quickly students all knew about it. Then they realized that the most important thing is working hard. 

   Whenever I go under the clock tower, I will tell myself, “Working hard is the key to success.”

    One afternoon, in Paris, Kate visited an art museum. She enjoyed seeing some great paintings in a quiet place like that. But a young man and his wife talked all the time. Kate watched them because of the noise and decided to go away.

    Kate met them many times when she walked through the museum. Every time Kate heard their noise, she left quickly.

    Kate was buying cards at the gate of the museum when those two people got there, too.

    “He's a brave man,” said the shopkeeper. “Most of us would give up if we were blind (失明), but he and his wife come when there's a new art show anytime.” “But how does the man enjoy the paintings?” Kate felt very sorry and asked.

    “His wife tells him about every painting.”

    At that moment Kate knew what patience (耐心) and bravery are. Kate saw patience from the wife and bravery from the man. He would not let blindness change his love on art.

    A good book can help you learn more things than you can learn in class. If you want to get into a good reading habit, here are a few ways.

    Plan your time

    You should give yourself at least thirty minutes for reading every day. When time is set, nothing can change it.

    Always carry a book

    Wherever you go, take a book with you. When you leave the house, make sure that you always carry a good book as well as your school things.

    Find a quiet place

    Find a place in your home where you can read a book quietly and no one will trouble you. There should be no television, computer, music or even noisy family members around you.

    What a bad day today! Tom suddenly fell ill and was sent to hospital by my neighbors. The doctor said he has been suffering lung cancer and {#blank#}1{#/blank#}! Everybody was shocked and felt a pity for this good man.

    Tom, who is a famous writer about 40 years old, lives just next door. He is kind and warm-hearted and always ready to give a helping hand to others when in need, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

    He often came to my house to tell me how to write stories and encourage me with his own experience. He told me he was born in a poor family. As a little boy, he had a dream to become a famous writer. He overcame thousands of difficulties to have entered a university. After graduation, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, and up till now, he is very famous around the country.

Unfortunately, when he was young, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} and became a heavy smoker, which has ended up as an invisible killer of his health.
