Father's Day has a very short history. It was started because there was a mother's Day,and just because some Americans thought that if we had a Mother's Day, we should also have a Father's Day. Father's Day has become important in North America. And businessmen found it was a good way to get people to buy a present for the fathers from their shops.

By the way, very few countries have a Father's Day, though some have Children's Day, or a special day for boys and another for girls. More and more countries are having Mother's Day, so maybe Father's Day will become popular before too long. Now, what do people in North America do on Father's Day? The newspapers, radios, and TV tell children what they should buy Father's Day presents for their fathers. They even tell a wife to buy a Father's Day present—-not for her father but for her husband, even if(即使) he is not a father. And they tell grandchildren to buy a present for their grandfathers.

The celebration of World Laughter Day is a positive activity for world peace and is to build up a global sense of brotherhood and friendship through laughter. The first “World Laughter Day” gathering（集会）took place in Mumbai, India, on 11th January 1998. 12, 000 members from India and international Laughter Clubs attended it. Now there are about 5, 000 Laughter Clubs worldwide on all 5 continents.

    “HAPPY-DEMIC” was the first World Laughter Day gathering outside India. It took place on 9th January 2000 in Copenhagen, Denmark. “World Laughter Day” is now organized on the first Sunday of May every year. Hundreds of people gather worldwide on that day to laugh together.

    Today, the world has never faced so much unrest（动荡）before. People are at war within themselves. Laughter is a universal language, which has the ability to unite humanity without religion（宗教）. Laughter can build a common connection between various religions and create a new world order. So we believe that laughter and only laughter can unite the world, building up a global sense of brotherhood and friendship.

    Studies also say that laughter helps your body do the following: lower blood pressure; reduce stress; work out the heart, especially for those who are unable to perform physical exercise. So in life, when you can laugh, you should laugh loudly and with your entire body—because it's good for you.

When you come to Auckland (奥克兰), you will easily find a pub (酒吧)either in small towns or in big cities. In these pubs many different kinds of drinks such as wine, beer, coke, coffee and juice are served. You can find out the local (当地的) culture. However, if you don't know the pub culture, you may lose face or even get into trouble(惹上麻烦).

    Most pubs in Auckland have no waiters, so you have to go to the bar to you're your own drinks. If you don't know this, you may wait a very long time until you know you have to go and get your own drinks. When you are standing in front of the bar waiting for service(服务). you are able to talk with others. The bar is the only place where you can talk freely. But while you are talking with others or talking about what you want to order, you must be careful.

    Remember, you'll never go into the pubs unless you are over 18.

    All through the winter, the Esquimaux（爱斯摩）live in houses made of snow. These small houses are very clean and white when they are new. They can soon turn dirty, but pieces of fresh snow make them new again.

    Sometimes the Esquimaux build their small houses with the wood that they find along the seaside. However, they aren't always so lucky. When they can't get wood, they use the snow. It is so cold that the snow becomes very hard, so the small houses are strong enough in the whole winter. The windows of these houses are not made of glass, but of ice.

When the warm weather comes, the houses become water slowly. The Esquimaux get wet as they lie in bed, and often catch a cold. They are glad to get away from the small snow houses and live in their tents during the summer.
