Carrots are grown all over the world. They are easy to plant and easy to harvest. They have a good taste.

When people think about carrots, they usually think they are a kind of long, thin, orange-colored vegetable. In fact, carrots are in many different sizes and shapes. And not all carrots are orange.

Carrots should be grown in a field that does not have water for a long time. The earth also should not be too hard. To prepare your carrot garden, dig up the earth and turn it over(翻土). 

Weather, soil condition(土壤状况), and time affect(影响) the taste of carrots. Warm days and cool nights are the best time to grow great delicious carrots.

The best way to decide if a carrot is ready to be harvested is by its color. Usually, the brighter the color is, the better the taste is.

Most people do not know that carrots can be grown during the winter months. If the winter is not cold enough to freeze the ground, you can grow carrots the same way as you do during the summer months.

Carrots are prepared and eaten in many different ways. They are cut into thin pieces and cooked with other vegetables or meat. Or, they are washed, and eaten just as they come out of the ground.

    To save time, many Americans buy foods which can be quickly made ready for the table. On holidays, families enjoy delicious meals. For example, on Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday in November, family members get together for a turkey dinner with pumpkin pie(南瓜派).

    The United States is known around the world for its fast food, such as hamburgers, sandwiches, pizzas, salad bars, and many kinds of ice cream. People can easily find fast food chains(连锁店),such as McDonalds' and KFC, in most of the big cities in the world.

    These years, many people have taken more and more care of their health while eating. They come to know eating too much meat will make them overweight. Many of them are also worried about food addictives(添加剂). Some of them may be harmful to the body.

The population of the world continues to increase, but in some areas the population is falling. 

This is true in Europe and especially in Eastern Europe. In Russia, the population is going down by about 100 people every hour!

Many governments are now encouraging people to have larger families. In France, women can receive nearly $1,000 a month for a year if they have a third child. Austrian women receive about $700 a month for three years when they have their first child. 

If you wake up one day and decide to build a house, how will you begin? Get some tools and build it at once? Or think carefully and prepare everything first? Of course, the second way is better. Why? Because you make a plan for your goal (目标)!

Many people have goals like getting better grades or finding a better job. But without a plan for reaching those goals, only 8 percent of these people will finally be successful. ____? First, it stops you spending time on meaningless things. Also, it helps you know better what to do step by step. What's more, if you make a good plan, you'll be surprised at how much you can reach. Last, by making a plan, you will know the problems you meet on the way to success and try your best to solve them.

The importance of having a plan is now clear, but do you know how to make your own plan?

Step 1: Put your goal down on a piece of paper. In this way, you will be more sure about it.

Step2: Cut your goal into small parts and make plans for them. So you will be clearer about what you can do step by step.

Step 3: Read your plan every day. Believe it or not, a plan is no good if you never look at it.

Step 4: Tell a friend about your plan. You may need his or her help when you can't follow it.

Remember: "A goal without a plan is just a wish." Once you make a plan for your goal and try your best to follow it, you will hardly fail.
