    Taobao, China's largest online shopping site（网上购物网站）, has become an important part of Wang Lin's life. She spends lots of money on Taobao.

    A growing number of Chinese Internet users like Wang have found the joys of online shopping. Most online shoppers are students or young workers. More women shop online than men; Clothing and home-use products are the most popular on line.

    It was reported that more than 250 billion (十亿) yuan was spent on online shopping last year, 80% through Taobao.

    Taobao means "looking for treasure" in Chinese. People can find almost everything they need on Taobao, from clothes to books, from candies to DVD players.

    You may question the security of online shopping, Wang Lin said, "It's very safe and convenient. Unless you receive the products from the sellers and are satisfied with them, the shop owner will not get the money. You can also get your money back if you want to return the products.”

      Grace was fourteen years old and was in Grade Eight. She had a part-time job, so she had to get up at five o'clock. She was a newspaper girl.

      Each morning, Grace left the house at 5:15. She always rode a bike to the corner to carry the newspapers.

      In winter it was still dark when she got up, but during the rest of the day it was bright. Grace had to send newspapers to people's houses in all kinds of weather.       Grace had 70 customers now, but she hoped to get more later. Some day, if she got more customers, perhaps Grace could win a prize for being a very good newspaper girl. She wanted to win a visit to Europe, but she would be happy if she won a new bike.

    Encourage yourself. Look in the mirror and say to yourself, “I am a special person and there's no one in the world like me. I can do anything.” It may not sound so good, but it really works!

    Help others. Do something nice for someone who always makes you feel good.

    Smile! Be friendly to people you meet. No one can refuse(拒绝) a big smile. Look for the good things in your friends and family.

     Learn something new! New things may be great challenges(挑战), but when you fall in love with them or get some progress, you'll be very happy.

    Stay with your family. We all need our family time. Talk with your mom and dad or maybe even your cousin. This can make you feel warm and give you confidence to get on well with others.

    People who are scared of heights should try not to drive over a new bridge in Guizhou. The new bridge, called the Beipanjiang Bridge, is the highest one in the world. Located near Bijie in Guizhou Province, the bridge stands 565 meters above a deep river. It connects the mountainous provinces of Guizhou and Yunnan. Just how high is the new bridge? Think of a 200-storey(层) building.

    Guizhou Province is already home to seven of the ten highest bridges in China. The Beipanjiang Bridge has just overtaken (超过t ) the Sidu River Bridge in Hubei Province to become the world's highest。

    The building of the Beipanjiang Bridge started in 2012 and it was opened to traffic (通车) on December 29 ,2016. It cost about 100 million yuan.

    The Beipanjiang Bridge is part of a highway（高速公路) connecting Hangzhou City in Zhejiang Province and Ruili City in Yunnan Province. The bridge is 1, 341 4 meters long and it cuts the travel time from Liupanshui in Guizhou to Xuanwei in Yunnan from around five hours to just over an hour。

    China is no stranger to record-breaking bridges. The second- and third-highest bridges in the world are also locateed in the country. The Beipanjiang Bridge is five meters higher than the previous（先前的）record holder.

The Inside of the World

    When I was a very little boy, I was always asking questions.

    One day when I was walking with my nurse along the city street, I asked, "Jane, what's under the street?" "Oh, just dirt (尘土) ," she replied. "And what is under the dirt?" "Oh, more dirt," she replied.

   {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. So I asked again, "Well, what's under that?" "Oh, nothing-I don't know-why are you always asking so many questions?" she asked

    I knew there must be something under that. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. I also heard that Chinese lived on the other side of the world, head down. I wanted to find out if that was true.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, down, down, down, till I came through on the other side, and then I would know. I was a very little boy, you see. With a small shovel (铁锹) , I started a hole in the back yard behind the grapevines (葡萄藤). No one knew what I was doing. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

    Then one evening my father asked, "What's that hole in the back yard?" {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

He didn't laugh when I told him, but he asked me if I knew how far I would have to dig.
