Have youheard of e-waste (电子垃圾), which can be produced every day? How do you deal with yourcomputers, MP4 players or mobile phones when they're broken or you want a newone?

    Mostpeople just throw them away. With the development of electronic industry (电子产业), e-waste pollution has becomea serious problem. According to the United Nations, in 2014, people around theworld produced 41.8 million tons (吨) of e—waste and only recycled 6.5 million tons. The US was the biggestwaster, producing 7.1 million tons. China came second, with 6 million tons.

    It'simportant to pay attention to e-waste. It can be either valuable or harmful,depending on how we deal with it. E-waste is a valuable urban mine (城市矿藏). The value of the metals,like gold and silver in the waste around the world, is surprising. And themetals can be reused. But if people throw them away, the toxic chemicals (有毒化学物质) can get into the earth or air,affecting the environmentand people's health.

    Apple, forexample, now recycles people's used products in China when they are buying newones. The company will test and repair the used ones and sell them at lowerprices. To help reduce e-waste, we can buy longer-lasting electronic products.If you have unwanted electronics, find a new home for them. You can also takecomputers and phones to companies to see if they offer recycling programs.

Spider-Man is often thought of as one of the best superheroes of all time. But did you know that he almost wasn't created?

Stan Lee came up with the idea for Spider-Man in 1962. He was a different kind of superhero from what had come before. He was a teenager who had everyday problems. Back then, superheroes were strong grown men who saved people. Teenagers were helpers. The heroes didn't have to worry about real-life problems like paying bills (账单) and caring for an old relative. They flew in the sky and fought aliens. Stan Lee was about to change that.

When Stan told his boss about Spider-Man, his boss said it was "the worst idea" he'd ever heard, reported the Vintage News. For a time, it seemed like that was the end for Stan's friendly neighborhood hero. But then, Stan had an idea. One of Marvel Comics' books was getting canceled. According to Stan Lee. "Nobody cared what you put inside a book that was going to be killed." So, Stan Lee teamed up with artist Steve Diiko, who made Spider-Man's iconic (标志性的) look. Together, they put Spider-Man onto the 15th and last issue (期) of the comic book Amazing Fantasy. Spider-Man was a huge hit. The issue, showing the superhero on its cover, was a bestseller. And so, Spider-Man was given his own comic book, The Amazing Spider-Man. He has become one of the most beloved fictional (虚构的) characters of all time.

A tornado (龙卷风) is a kind of strong storm with air which moves in a circle quickly. They can move over 200 miles per hour and cause a lot of damage. As they move across the land, they can easily pick up cars, trucks, and even houses, and then throw them very far. It is important to find a safe place if a tornado gets close. 

A safe place could be a basement or the lowest floor. If you are in a home without a basement, try to find a first-floor bathroom or a small room without windows in the middle of your house. You should curl up (蜷缩) into a ball and cover your head and neck with your hands. 

But there are some people who actually want to get close to tornadoes. They are scientists who want to learn more about tornadoes. One of the best ways to do this is to get as close as possible to the tornado. They use special tools to measure (测量) what is happening in and around a tornado. 

One special tool is called a tornado probe (探测仪) . Inside the tornado probe, there are sensors (传感器) to measure wind speed, temperature, pressure, and direction. Some probes even have cameras, so the scientists can see and understand what it's like to be in a tornado.

To be able to get these measurements, the scientists have to get a tornado probe near or into a tornado. Scientists will try to guess where a tornado will go next. Then they drive to that location and put down the probe. If they do not guess correctly, they pick up their probe and r another place. If they are right, the tornado will go near or even right over the probe. Then they take all of the measurements from the probe and use them to predict where future tornadoes may form and travel. And they can give people some warning to keep away from a dangerous tornado. 

When Mrs. Gullickson was assigning (分配) a partner to us for a project, I 1 I could work with my friend or someone I could have fun with. Unluckily, I was told that I would work with that serious guy I didn't like working with.

Although I was not pleased with the result, I 2 tried my best to get on well with my partner. However, He looked at me as if I weren't there. He made me think I might mess up (搞糟) our 3 .
